Now the following scene is going to happen in ME3:

Journalist Lady: "Commander Shepard, the community as a whole is tired of you insulting them over and over. What have you to say to this?"

Shepard: "I've had enough of your insincere fabrications!" *PUNCH*

Isn't Khalisah al-bint Jilani going to get owned by Reapers? Along with Turian Councilor? (Let's see him dismiss him being decapitated)

No idea. It'd be strange to me if they didn't go for a 3 in a row SHEPARD PUNCH moment.

I sure hope so. I'd offer Jilani up to the Reapers if I could. :P

This is a question to Bioware.  I doubt you'll answer.  I expect you'll lock the thread.  But it's a genuine question.

Why does this Laidlaw guy, the guy that got to run Dragon Age now the real head guy left, keep insulting the fanbase?

Firstly he insulted us with the game itself.

He can keep insulting me all he wants then. :wizard:

QFTW!

That's not to say that DAII would not have had its benefit from an additional 6 months of Dev time. But DAO had like 7 years and still came with outdated graphics, a clunky combat system, terrible, game breaking dialogue bugs and Epilogue bugs (Plot flags!)....And I still love DAO to pieces despite it all, same goes for DAII. Mods have gone a long way to keep DAO alive and patching what Bioware broke.... And DAII has already received many wonderful Mods as well.

And a question for the OP: Why does the so called fanbase keep insulting him in a way worse manner? (Calling him names, threatening him, demanding that he be fired etc.?)

I never thought I'd say this but after everything that has been done to this game pre-release and after......I'm beginning to hope these people start giving their abusive affection to another studio and leave Bioware alone.

And before people yell "Blasphemy!": I know DAII isn't perfect (Neither is bloody DAO) and several people have pointed this out rationally via constructive criticism. These people are an asset to the fanbase. Because a studio needs them. The others......they know who they are.

Oh. My. God. Some people in this thread really do make me laugh. Look, I understand if you like the game, and find it as a nice fun time waster and such. But, please, please, PLEASE DO NOT say that this game is not mediocre, because the cons outweigh the pros for this game entirely. Seriously, re-used areas? Less involved conversations with companions? Plotholes galore? ALL of these things bring down this game, so NOONE should be calling a masterpiece. I understand if you are one of the people saying "Well, I can look past that..." but you cannot and should not say that this game is above average because it isn't. You only like the game, because you enjoy it for what it is.

They should just nuke these forums, between the tali-ban, rabid fanboys/haters its awful. The very nature of the games bioware makes does not lend itself to any debate. You think da2 is good? Great, i think its terrible. Since its completely subjective, and i absolutely hate to my very core the way in which most people present their opinions; i feel nothing positive can possibly come from these exchanges. Whether you love or hate the game you're still a ****ing douchebag when you present what you care about, or your opinion, as the only thing that matters.

But...Ultimately, isn't your opinion the only one that actually matters to you?

No, i find i highly value the opinion of my wife and friends. When they disagree with an assessment of mine i don't tell them to "**** off and die." I simply have a problem with both sides of the coin acting like Rinpochelameberry. The system is flawed because people who would generally be objective find that they cannot be because of individuals who are intent on not being so. This leads to petty cycle of hate and vitriol, of which i find myself participating in more often than not because of the hate elicited by comments i find retarded and without and level of objectivity. Such as someone so easily and flippantly dismissing issues one might make with a particular game. Just from that alone you could make the case that Laidlaw was insulting a portion of the fanbase because he apparently pays them no heed. Being objective pretty much dictates that he know about, and probably acknowledge the more poignant issues that are brought up. Seemingly that begins and ends with re-used areas, which is also the only point anyone is apparently willing to concede.

I think the real question is why does "the fanbase"* keep taking everything Mike Laidlaw says as an insult?

*by fanbase, I mean the criminally insane

And it's people like you who keep telling others what to say, think and feel about a game that make me even more fond of the idea of nuking the General "Discussion" Forums. Of course they'll never do it. But a girl can dream.

That's the only way I've ever liked any game.  Critical consensus is only relevant to those who don't have their own opinion such as say, prospective customers.  I have the game.  I've played it.  What others think, and how much they mark aspects of the game down for certain things is irrelevant to me.

I'm talking about personal subjectivity because that's all that's relevant.  Citing critical consensus because it echoes your position doesn't do anything for your argument from where I sit because I simply do not care.

A very tame example compared to what you have dished out on occasion. Or Crisis.

No offense, really. And I do agree that this bickering has to stop.

But pointing fingers (And I realize that I've been doing that too) isn't going to help anyone.

If other people's opinions were really irrelevant to you then you wouldn't be on these forums.

I preferred waiting and bullrushing her. MANY GOOD COMMUNITY MEMBERS DIED. HOW CAN YOU INSULT THEM WITH THAT QUESTION!

Anyway...

Naw. Srsly d00dz, members of the fanbase enjoyed this game. As such, Mr. OP, you are not a mouthpiece of the entire fanbase. Just because I enjoyed the game doesn't make me a member of the COD Fanbase or whatever assertions are going down now. I'm a member of the DA fanbase, I enjoyed DA2. I do not believe that Mr. Laidlaw or any of the other developers have either insulted the community or forced unfair standards on the community.

Frankly, I've enjoyed the last few Bioware releases (DAO, ME2, DA2) better than previous ones -- I felt as though there was a "You're SPECIAL!" theme that was ultimately overused through JE, KOTOR, and ME1 (as well as reaching back to even BG1+2). Frankly, I don't think Bioware is past its prime or doing horribly at all -- I think they're coming up with more interesting, character-driven plots.

Check my post history lately, I haven't been.  Certainly not in any threads like these. Primarily because reading opinions framed as absolute truth tends to irritate me.

And that's an oversimplification of my position, which is that there's no good reason for me to give a damn what anyone else thinks once I have the game and have played it myself.

Because there is nothing more amusing/entertaining than people acting like prima donnas in a travesty about what people think a prima donna is about.

I don't understand. Is there another way of liking a game than liking it for what it is? Liking it for what it isn't is a bit too wide a definition. Liking, or disliking, it for what it ought to be gets a bit too metaphysical for me.

It is above average.

It is however not the end of the world, I just play something else instead. I have posted a review in the CC thread so my job is done, now I just help people asking questions and occassionally have a giggle here while seeing what's new about DA2 such as bugs/fixes and DLC plus any ideas that I hadn't considered towards DA2.

Friends and family? Sure, I suppose. Random people on the internet who usually hide behind their anonymity? Heck no. No one here has to care about the opinions of others, though we are expected to respect those opinions. Now, does Bioware have an obligation to at least read the feedback offered by their customers? Sure. And they do. They have said multiple times that they read and chronical the various opinions presented here. That is what the constructive criticism thread is for, after all.

As for your involvement, if you hate the "petty circle of hate and vitriol", don't post. Its simple. I have seen a number of posts made by you that just add fuel to the fire. Self-control: Find some. I don't like most of the posts on this board either. Heck, most of them are just silly, much like the first post in this thread. That's why I don't post terribly often.

As for Laidlaw, I have yet to see anything said by him that I would consider insulting. Maybe I have thicker skin then most. I don't know. However, it seems to me like some people are actively looking to be insulting so they can come to the forums and rage about it. Just like when people took Laidlaw's comments out of context and then proceeded to insult him by calling him illiterate.

Oh, and do you know why most people only agree on the re-used maps? Its because most everything else is completely subjective. Opinions, yo. People have them. Refer back to paragraph one.

Oh. My. God. I only like the game because I enjoy it? That's the only thing that does matter, in the end.

Look, it could have been (far) better. It is no masterpiece. I guess in the end it's a glass half full or half empty issue. I take the "half full" approach - I don't deny any of it's flaws. I don't like the level re-use, I don't like the wave mechanic,  but what I call mediocre is entirely up to me, you don't make this judgement for me. Thanks.

A few people in the entire world like quantum theory for what it is. A third person shooter. The people who dislike that game dislike it because it has ugly graphics, an awful story, and some of the worst character development ever. Do you understand now?
