I want Shepard to be able to both live or die at the end based on your choices, A scripted unavoidable death in a game so heavily focused on choice would be silly to me.

I don't want him to stick around for further games, and I certainly don't want him to die an unavoidable plot death. I want his story to end in a satisfactory manner, dependant upon my choices and actions. I want payoff.

It's all about how the story is wrapped up. I could imagine a heroic or tragic death, as well as a happy end. I'm fine with all of that, if these options are my choice, or better, the consequence of my choices.

That said, the trilogy should be Shepard's story. After that it's time to move on.

In a way, I feel like the plot buildup demands blood. You couldn't escape it in 1, you could escape it in 2 (and let's face it -- most people will have played through trying to escape people dying), in the 3rd, some blood will have to be lost.

Shepard needs to go out in a blaze of glory, I think. Not in an old people's home, rocking back and forth, telling the occasional class of 4th graders who think he's senile about the reaper invasion.

Sacrifice and redemption make a story stronger. Happy endings where there is no price to play does nothing to make a story resound.

...At least, that's my opinion. ;)

If he dies because my decisions lead to that I'm fine.
If he dies because none of my decisions really matter and the ending is fixed on him being dead I' not.

I want the end to be unexpected.. but nothing too fancy .. afraid it will screw up the game

We know ME3 is the last game.

Im ok with Shepards death. I want that option ..badly.

But im not sure in what way he can dei.. heroic, accidental , assosinated? Heroic is the best.

I'd like to be able to doss about at the end of Mass Effect 3 like you can do in Mass Effect 2, plus it makes it easier to play DLC without having to start a new character or revert to earlier saves.

I'd like some epilogue in the credits akin to the Dragon Age: Origins closing about little blue children, house on the Quarian homeworld, Elcor Hamlet becoming the top selling extranet purchase of all time, etc.

In ME2 you had to try to have Shepard die I think it should be the opposite with this one. I hope there is an awful ending where everyone dies and the reapers win (you almost have to try to get this ending). A medium ending where some peole and Shepard die but the reapers are defeated (must commom ending). And finally a happy ending everyone live except upon certain decisions and shepard lives.

Plenty of people disagree with that opinion.  The ending should be shaped however you want it to be shaped.  If you want the bittersweet pyrrhic victory ending then you can have that ending.  If you want a happy ending where everyone rides off into the sunset, that should be an option too.  I dont want ME3 to force people to die.

I agree, I think the absolute best ending should be the one that you work the hardest for.  I have no problem with that in that gives you a strong incentive to do everything necessary to have you and your crew survive.

People say you almost had to try hard to get Shepard to die at the end of ME2, it wasnt hard at all.  DOnt do any loyalty missions and everyone was dead meat.

I wouldn't mind if it was tied to different decision variables like the SM was. Not as obvious but similar. Also if there's 6 endings (2 for each morality) Shep should die in at least 2 of them.

I don't think it'll happen.

They've already mentioned play-after-the-end, so an unavoidable Shepdeath would make that awkward...

unless they pulled the ol', "well, when we say you can play after the end, we mean that there's an autosave before the point of no return is passed, so you can return to that point at any point and do sidequests and stuff"

If it was due to the wrong decisions I made in ME1, ME2 and ME3 then yeah that fine by me but if it happens either way i will not be happy I am hoping that I am able to get the happy ending in which shepherd saves the day and gets the girl like all super hero films end like that.

But either way I think this is the last we will see of shepherd as the main character.

I think we will hear a lot about shepherd in the spin offs from mass effect (guarantee their will be considering how popular mass effect is)

depends on if you want han solo to be dead in revenge of the jedi or the happy ewok song at the end with the pre vader anikan ghost...

Happy endings have their place, but a hero that lives beyond his/her task tends to become a tragic figure to be pitied rather than respected.

Well they have already said there will be a number of different endings, so if he dies then it was probably a slip up on our part. If that happens then I would be okay with it as long as it isn't forced, but instead the result of our own choices.
