 I know game informer did give a list of characters that will be appearing in Mass Effect 3 but it does not say whether they are temporary characters or full characters the list below will organise who IN MY OPINION will be full squad members or not and will give scenarios to what will make them not full squad members or not

ME1 Squad Characters 

Ashley Williams / Kaiden Alenko (Confirmed) - 100% in game no chance of them not being in the game fully considering shepherd has joined the alliance once more in ME3.

Liara T'Soni (Confirmed) - Not sure on Liara making more than small appearances for special missions related to her due to her being the shadow broker now making it impossible for her to be away for long periods of time. (but it does seem unusual to be quickly confirmed as a squad member in ME3 with such information about her life between ME1 and ME3)

Garrus (Confirmed) - 100% because of him always following where Shepherd goes and last time he went on his own it did not go so well but it is possible for him not to be a full member if he managed to join the spectres (he wanted to join in ME1)

Wrex - Very Unlikely to make more than special appearances for missions relating to the Krogan due to him being clan leader and likely to be more powerful in ME3.

Tali - Not sure but possibly a short term member due to their being two options for Tali either she is exiled or allowed to stay as a member of the flotilla, but I can imagine she will be a short term member due to their being so much variation to what she can do they will likely play it safe with appearances rather than full membership.

ME2 Squad Characters 

Thane - unlikely to be in ME3 will most likely see him on his death bed (due to his disease) and most likely his son will join your adventure to help you as best as he can and try to learn what his father mastered.

Samara / Morinth - Very likely in my opinion because of Samara saying she will come to help you whenever you need assistance (unsure with Morinth though I can see her not making much an appearance)

Miranda -  Depends on what she does after leaving cerberus she could have joined the alliance or joined another organisation but either way she will be wanting to help against the reapers so she is likely to be a full member but unfortunately with Miranda its debatable until we hear more information.

Jacob - He will most probably follow shepherd due to him appearing to found more stability being under Shepherds Command than under Cerberus or Alliance Command, but he did pretty much say he will support Cerberus so as long as they keep the line of taking down the guy. This makes it very likely that Jacob will join you because possibly TIM will try to get you killed or will order the death of Miranda (or even both) for leaving cerberus and wanting his investment back but with this one i am sure they will explain his decision.

Mordin - No more than small appearances I believe due to such large variations to Mordin (whether he tries to cure genophage or not) making it hard for him to be a full member if is easy free or busy with cure.

Jack - possible but she appeared not to be interested in helping you further at all especially how determined she was to survive so she can hunt down anyone who messed with her (that does include Miranda), could possibly be a choice involved if you keep Miranda or Jack alive with Physco Jack trying to kill Miranda but we will have to see.

Grunt - Very likely to appear in my opinion he does not seem that important to the clan except for purifying the Krogan race which it is probable that he has helped add children to the world and is likely protecting Mordin (if he tries to cure genophage) or just comes along with you because of facing the greatest enemy possible (as with krogan belief that your strength is measured by your enemies).

Legion - Doubt he will be their from the start but will later join you with meeting the Geth and trying to get them to join forces

P.S. do not say those are 100% confirmed as squad members I know who are but it does not say whether they will be making appearances like in Liar of The Shadow Broker or full members

Bioware even mentioned that some characters will be making appearances as short term squad mates not full blown.

Wrex-- probably not. He's trying to rebuild the Krogan. I think he'll help us by committing his people to our fight. (plus, he's got to live in the ME1 playthrough )

Garrus-- if he lived, then yes. I can't see him bailing on Shep now.

Tali-- if she lived, absolutely. I mean, her own fleet cast her out and changed her name to vas Normandy. She's part of our crew, and I don't think she'd leave.

Liara-- I think maybe she'll be temp member on some missions, but I think she'll serve Shep best by doing the Shadow Broker gig.

Thane-- I have no idea. I wouldn't think so since his disease was pretty far along, but lord knows Bioware likes to surprise us.

Samara/ Jack/ Zaeed/ Kasumi-- basically they were splitting after the main mission, so I don't think they'll be back.

Jacob/ Miranda-- unsure. Jacob I can see staying with Shep. Miranda... in one of my games, she never said she quit Cerberus, but in another game when I took her on the final boss fight, she did quit. So maybe it depends on how you played yout game????

Mordin-- I would love for him to come back. Hands down, one of my favorite characters in ME2. But, I'm iffy on his returning as a member of the team.

Grunt-- Would be cool. I think he respects Shep enough to stick around. After all, he'd get to kill a lot!

Legion-- You're probably right. He'll probablt be doing geth stuff, so I can see him as a temp party member. But I'd really like him as a full team member.

Of course, it all depends on if they survived the SM or not. 

More than likely, we'll see a few new members join our crew.

I honestly don't think anyone from ME2 will be permanent squad members, based on the fact that they all can die.
I believe Ashley/Kaidan & Liara will be the new Garrus & Tali.

Other than that, pretty much anything is OK. I don't care if they don't give us a Drell. They could also give us Feron, or a new lady Drell, or even Thane back (he might not be dead yet.) But I don't want his gorram whiny son tagging along. No. Thanks.

Just a small point, Legion states that he can act as a conduit to his people yet in ME2 this is never exploited. I'm kinda of the mind that he intended for that to be a longstanding statement and so him going back to geth space doesn't really make sense.

Everything about who could be permanent team members has already been said. What I want:

Miranda...
....to have a semi-permanent role - meaning after an initial period where we don't see her she will be permanent. I want this because Miranda having an interesting story arc is as important to me as having her on the team, and there is more potential for that if she is not always on the team. I would not want to be limited to one mission with her, though. I want her for half the game.

Basically, it's the same for all team members I'd like to have in the game - Ashley, Kaidan and Jacob. And, to my surprise, Jack (yeah, so I'm human-centric), but only if she's mellowed a bit. A combination of periods of absence with time on the team, equally distributed but depending on when you're doing which quests, that has the most potential of bringing the characters' potential out fully.

I can say who I don't think will be a companion for ME3...

Samara/Morinth - I've never really seen either of them as likely companion material for ME3. Samara completed her mission and has no real obligation to Shepard and Morinth is likely to run off when the Normandy is grounded.
I imagine at most they'll get a 'cool cameo'.

Wrex - He'll likely be leading the krogan and may potentially be a temporary companion for a Wrex specific mission.

Mordin - My second favourite companion in the whole ME series and yet I can't see him being a companion. I'm thinking maybe he'll serve a Chakwas-esque role on the Normandy (at best) and if not he'll have is own character specific mission to do with Salarian STG or something to that effect (temp squaddie).

Legion - Probably be a temporary squaddie for a mission to do with rallying the geth.

Zaeed/Kasumi - DLC characters. 'Cool cameo' at best.

Personally I'm tired of Humans, Jacob, Kaiden, Miranda (especially), Ashley. They are all so...blech. I really hope Liara is in the game more, her, Tali and Garrus best core group imo.

I really would like to see more Mordin. I know him being along for the team is less than zilch. But he just left this amazing impression of "awesome". (oh why couldn't I romance you Mordin!) So I'm really crossing my fingers for many conversations with him.

For Wrex/Grunt I really think they will let you choose your Krogan. Like if Wrex died (stupid Ashley) Then you get Grunt. Vice Versa. I just don't know how it will play out for people who had them both die.

Legion I'm really looking forward to. I can see this amazing fleshed out battle where Quarians and Geth have to fight together to take out Reapers. Oh, the tension it would cause. Probably have to be a diplomat in order for this to work correctly.

As for Thane, considering he was my primary romance, I really hope there is a possible cure for him. I mean yeah Bioware would make him not dying an obvious scapegoat for the fangirls. But hey, everyone loves more Drell right? They did say something about a donor list if you did the Shadow Broker dlc. I don't see Bioware saying something like that just to not use it later.

I can go on and on saying why Miranda isn't that great a character and why her lack of appearances in the game wouldn't determine anything significant. But a lot of characters could be cut out due to that fact, including Thane, so I'll keep my mouth shut on how much of a shell/bigot she is.

Bailey (oh yeah I went there)
Grunt
Garrus/Liara (yay for being confirmed!)
Other obvious ones like Mordin/Joker/Legion/Kelly
Some kind of Hanar/Elcor teammate

Who I could care less about:
Miranda
Ashley (shes dead, whoot)
Jacob (I don't see him being a part of any organization after the Suicide Mission)
Kaiden ("Alliance for life" Hes worse than the kids at Blizzcon.)
Samara

I dont know if I could do it. I like them both equally. Tali is adorable with her stalkerish attitiude. And Legions just pimp.

Although after doing their loyalty missions and having that confrontation, the paragon choice makes them get along...kinda. I'm sure there will be a median choice. :3

I doubt Wrex will be in as a full member, he has to lead his people, though I suspect he will be in the squad at some point.

Full Memembers, besides confirmed, I see two more new guys to help out with a total screw up player. So you get a team of at least 5-6. I see some of your less traveling sorts coming back as full members, such as Tali, Grunt, and maybe mordin.


People like Jack, Kasumi, Big Z, and a few others I can see coming back somehow. But in a more limited role, wish we'ld get more info on this soon.

Ashley Williams / Kaiden Alenko (Confirmed) - No doubt will join you in my mind. May be some drama leading up to them joining though, depending if you stay with cerberus.

Liara T'Soni (Confirmed) - Highly doubt she will appear for more than being the shadow broker. Talks on her station, talks over intercomm. Shadowbroker seems like a full time job.

Garrus (Confirmed) - No doubt he will stick around as a full squadie.

Wrex - Probably just building up the Krogan like ME2.

Tali - She is vas Normandy, I doubt she will leave sheperd now.

ME2 Squad Characters

Thane - Probably dead, but we can hope he appears for most the game. Perhaps dies mid-game or something.

Samara / Morinth - Highly doubt will stay for either of them.

Miranda - Probably will stay with sheperd, she did leave cerberus afterall so there isn't many places left.

Jacob - I expect he will stay with Sheperd, unfortunately. He bores me.

Mordin - I loved Mordin, but somehow doubt he will stick around.

Jack - I doubt she will stick around unless Sheperd romances her. Just doesn't seem in her character to be tied down, however sheperd could be protecting her from cerberus which offers a reason to stay.

Grunt - Unless he has gone back to join Wrex, I think he will most likely still be with his battlemaster - sheperd.

Legion - I also doubt he will be around besides maybe a mission or two. He is likely helping the geth rally, or building their future.

The character I want the most as a full squad member is Miranda.
Unfortunately I think Bioware will pamper Tali, Liara, VS, and Garrus fans. And the remaining fans will just have cameos or temporary squadmates.

Liara and VS seem the most possible fulltime squaddies to me. Because they are alive.

I don't want Kolyat on Shepard's team. He isn't a killer, as shown on Thane's LM. He isn't trained like his father, and as Thane says, it isn't what he is meant to be.
Also, I don't think Thane would like it if Kolyat joined Shepard's team. Thane was trained to be an assassin since he was a kid. Kolyat wasn't, and can't deal with the guilt.

Mind you, I still think Thane may be either a temp squadmate or have a cameo, and an LI cameo of course. People say he will be dead. But they don't realise that ME3 is set a few months after ME2. And Thane says himself that his condition will only begin to deteriorate (so he will no longer be able to fight as effectively,) in 8-12 months.

DLC - extras

I see Kasumi finally getting caught, and the contents of her graybox getting her and the Alliance put under a serious trial. We know that the box has some kind of information on the Reapers. If the Council gets wind of this, especially during the Cycle War (as I call it), then this could mean that Shepard needs to strengthen the relationship between the two organizations -- hence, it becomes plot relevant.

If you destroyed the information, Kasumi will get a short cameo.

I see Zaeed either hunting Vito and infiltrating the Blue Suns base of operations, or simply just infiltrating the Blue Suns base of operations. His goal is to take over the Blue Suns again. and get filthy rich supplying the Council with goods and weapons. Remember that the Blue Suns are actually a fairly respectable group of mercs. Shepard's mission would be to assist Zaeed in taking down the Blue Suns leadership, and advising Zaeed in how to rule at the end of the mission.

If you let Vito get away in ME2, Zaeed will get BS mercs to hold Vito down, and will shoot him in the head, whether you are paragon or not.

I cannot hope to make a list of permanent characters because I know Bioware will have a completely different list than me....
But for disscussion/hype sake i hope they release the number (if it be 9, 16, 3 whatever) of squadmates you will have.

Once we have a number, the guesses to the actual squadmates should get much more accurate.
