That was pretty much copyrighted by the Harvester.  It wasn't just a model reuse, it was a reuse of a pretty unique mechanic.

Now I'm imagining a thrilling climax where Orsino is too powerful to defeat, and is only stopped when a bunch of dwarven lawyers come in and slap him with a cease and desist order.

I remember them too.

But he hardly seemed as intelligent as he was when he was the Mayor. I blame the budget for that. The giant snake-Mayor probably didn't have much of a budget to say or do much more than they showed.

I think they blew the budget on the school explosion. :P

Very likely. He's ascended for what? Five minutes? I don't remember it being terribly long. Just a short chase and explosion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Harvester in Golems of Amgarrak sewn together by the dwarves from the bodies of the casteless and then infused with a demon from the Fade? I don't remember the exact process from the DLC's codexes, but it seemed really strange to me, as well as going against what I remembered from Golems, that Orsino could just slice open his hand and cast a spell and magically become the exact same creature. Why couldn't they have made him some other undead abomination instead of one that already had a very different origin?

As far as I remember that fight, Orsino through the use of Blood Magic combined his own body with those of his fellow dead mages (willing sacrifices as he calls them). The video shows the corpses flying around him to finally engulf his body and morph it into a Harvester. Also during the fight, if you pause and zoom in you can see corpses in the flesh of the Harvester, see http://dragonage.wik...agon_Age_II.jpg from dragon age wiki site.
Therefore I can't really see a huge difference or lack of lore from Golems of Amgarrak to Dragon Age 2. A demon can directly achieve a Harvester, just like Blood Magic can call to a demo in the Fade to acomplish the same result, seems to me to fit the lore just fine.

Also the necromancer that killed Hawkes mother, he was researching using corpses + blood magic, and was sharing his research with Orisino. There is a note in the necromancers den that reads

"here are some more necro books I stole from the library for you, keep up the research you are really going places - O "

So I am thinking the necro had done enough research on the Harvester that he did not need to actually use Castless corpses, and having the demon come first and summon the materials to him, rather than sewing the corpses together and then implanting a demon, seems like an improvement.

I think it is kind of weird that it looks near identical and has the same removable head. I guess flesh golems just see the advantage in removing their head to search for victims all stealthy like.

The Harvester in Golems was actually made by putting together pieces of dwarf bodies.  Obviously, Orsino himself is not made of pieces of dwarf (or any kind of) bodies. Summoning corpses to him to be some giant Flesh Megazord isn't my problem, it's that he turns into the exact same creature. Why he morph into that exact same little creature? If he had just turned into an abomination like anyone else, and then brought the corpses to him for something, it would be fine. It's just him being the exact same thing that bothers me.

Also, I hated that the varterral returns in this game, TWICE. If I recall correctly, the book in the Circle Tower in Witch Hunt that talks about varterrals says that they're creatures of myth that aren't believed to exist anymore. Except in Sundermount, I guess, they're all over that ****.

It should bother you more in Witch Hunt. Everything in that DLC was borrowed resources from somewhere else. The Varterral appearing there was essentially a 'preview' of the one from DA2. And Merril explains its the same one you fight both times in Sundermount. (if you bring her the second time)

That's the thing. Witch Hunt was annoying in that everywhere you went was from somewhere else. "Wow, Warden, what are the odds that everything remotely related to this quest of ours goes to places you've already been to." But at least it had a cool new monster to fight at the end. Or so I thought at the time.

I didn't mind that Orsino turned into Meat Voltron, I just wished since I sided with him he flipped out on some Templars, not all his buddies (my Hawke and the gang). I mean, I would've helped carry bodies outside to help him so long as he ripped some Templars up first :P

Just be thankful he didn't turn into the Reaper Baby. (also formed of Dead People!)

Sorry to say it but he was  Dragon Age's Reaper baby. *sheds a tear*
