So I had never once select the heart icon when talking to her before... After completing her "A New Path" quest (post patch) and I went back to the Hawke Estate... Merrill was there. Hawke and Merrill then argue a little bit (I have 100% rivalry with her) but then there is an option with a heart icon and a heartbreak icon. The heart icon leads them to sleep together while the heartbreak icon has Hawke saying something like "You can experiment all you want as long as it does not endanger Kirkwall" in which she stormed off.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, her appearing out of the blue wanting to made it up all with Hawke when I had never expressed any interest in her before

BTW, this only happened in my 2nd playthrough (Hawke is on Fenris friend-mance) and my bf's playthrough (Izzy's friend-mance) but it didn't in my first (Anders friend-mance and moved in). Anybody got this scene and feel weirded out?

It's definitely a bug. I've heard of it happening before but never seen it myself. It doesn't really affect the game any if you turn her down so I wouldn't worry about it much. I am pretty sure the devs know about it.

I don't believe she is supposed to show up unless you had flirted with her in the past. I could be wrong. In regards to your first play though. Anders & Merrill are the relationship killers from a mechanics standpoint. By being with one of them that means it shuts off all others. So even if you had flirted with Merrill in the past, she wouldn't explore it if Anders was already living at your place.

Glad to know it wasn't something that I triggered on purpose lol. Since I've heard that Merrill is a "romance killer"... and at this point I just want to see Fenris' romance ending so I hope I didn't messed it up with this scene

The rejection is pretty cruel though... her endangering Kirwall is not really what I have in mind

Fenris is the most picky. If you sleep with anyone before him he will turn down any flirts in the conversation in Act 2. As a warning.

It's tough, but that's what happens on the rivalry path. It's a much softer rejection if you are friends.

He can't be that broody. If you don't romance him or isabela. They start having quickies on the side in Act 3.

You can sleep with Isabela before Fenris. Heck I didn't even pick the broken heart icon and he still made moves on Hawke.

It's supposedly buggy and random to work. Why it's not worth risking.

It didn't work on my last play. I ended up having my hawke do a quickie with Isabela. Get turned down by Fenris and then she just went home to Merrill in the end.

I disliked Fenris, Anders and Merrill to the point that I never did the Fenris mini mission other than to tell him we should part ways. Anders to me is a psycho-co-dependent nusance so I always avoided him and Merill I found annoying all game long. That left the hooker in the dirty panties so I passed on that too. I was surprized Avaline reached over and kissed my character after 'questioning Beliefs.' All of the above came after completing the game and trying to manage all four personalities by doing as they asked so on my 2ns through sixth playthrough I was glad to simply ignor them.

Looking forward to DA/3. I wonder if the fine folks at Bioware Inc. are planning to develope a DLC. Hope so I don't want to start my nurse practitioner school next year and find they bailed on the series.

I thought it was just me with the Merril thing. I had her at full rivalry but was romancing Fenris. Then once I went home she was there and pow I'd gotten myself a live-in elven lover. Seeing as I'd never flirted with her I was wondering how I'd managed it lol
