Bioware is not likely to admit fault until they have a solution. When they start having to sell major DLC their tone might change.

I dont know if I really believe that DLCs will show good sales for DA2, no matter how "major" they might make them. The reason they were selling so well (even the bad ones) for Dragon Age Origins was that people really wanted to dive into the loose ends and side stories to the main story.
It's like written fantasy stories. If a writer manages to gain popularity with one book, they often expand and publish a lot more books on the market set in the same fictional world because people will buy them to experience more of the world they've fallen in love with.
Interestingly we find the same kind of response to an author of a hugely popular novel who throws out dumped down follow ups as we have experienced in regard to the Dragon Age franchise.

DLCs.
That highlighted part is the exact reason they aren't releasing a toolset for time being. Once DLC is done with just prior to DA3 they will likley release a toolset. (IMHO)

i lost my interest when you said "da2 is a good game".
Then perhaps you should read a bit further, because I clearly state that -I- dont think it is a good game. I state that DA2 is a "good" game based on how games are defined by most reviewers as being "good" these days: Eye candy and action and little else.
read it all and absolutely agree.

not including this forum i am at 7 right now, 6 actuallly as my little brother dosn't play games, he just came by and had to endure my 40minute-just-stop-talking-to-breath rent.
i am still not sure how important word to mouth is for the actual product as most sales are generated by the first week but if you can believe vg-charts and the prices for the game at amazon than it is.
i guess the true impact will ber seen with dlc or with dragon age 3, where DA2 could hope for the massive fanbase of Origins, a third part would have to deal with people who were disappointed at the second.
actually i think even other bioware products will suffer, i felt myself lose all my blind enthusiasm for TOR wich i was the onlyone defending it amongst the people i regulary play with. 2months ago i forced them to decide wich classes they will play, now i am on their level of "seeing how well it does after some weeks or a month"
why i bought the game despite the demo?
easy:
it was just a demo, usually you can expect things to go better. plus, with my 35hours of gametime i seem to have been on the fast side, but with a ~10minutes demo you cannot judge the whole game. i mean i would say that the area you are in the demo is the onlyone wich you just visit one time. how could i have guessed about area recycling from that? or about the story? certain skilltrees where not chooseable/greyed out in the demo as were the equipment menu as far as i know. naturally i thought that there would be much more to come. i wasn't happy with the combat, what was the onlything you really saw in the demo (could i know that 90% of the game would be combat at this point?) but i thought that other things would shine in the full game. and in the end, because back then bioware had a good reputation with me at this point.

Then there's facebook, with 'online' friends who game, I've posted not to buy it, if you must, rent it first, and for the PC, definitely not buy it, I don't have many facebook friends, maybe around a 100, even if half don't buy it that's around 50 plus 6(including me) for family gamers.

you know thats interesting, i once read an interview with...edward norton i think...not sure on that part but he basically said that the biggest part of the crisis the movie industrie is in is not due to pirates but because mediums like facebook and twitter make it increadibly hard to masquerade a bad movie with a big-ass advertising budget. he basically said that agencies put xx-million doller into advertising, but then at the first day people come out of cinema and go onto social media to tell the rest of the world whats going on.
guess the conclusion for the games industry will be either to stop makeing crappy games or rather games wich could easily have been really good (and i speak about most of the games i played recently, not just DA2) or..
well more bonus-stuff for people how order a copy x-weeks before release. but i guess that won't keep on for long.
or they can prove as dinosaurs and just blame pirates, thats always an easy excuse.

Not just Facebook, Twitter is another where word spreads. I tweeted my anger at being sold a half arsed unfinished product and it was retweeted several times, it would have shown up in the timeline of several thousand people. When I first entered the work place I was told exactly what nopho posted "an happy customer will tell one person about a product, an unhappy one will tell ten.", that was true back then before the widespead use of the internet and even more so today, the only difference now is that 10 could be 100, 1,000, 10,000 or more.

Interesting, I forgot about twitter since I don't use it. Heh, so with social sites like facebook and things like twitter, the word of mouth reaches a much larger percentage of people.

The problem with that is that they will never fixi anything with DLC. For example I bet lots of people would buy a "no enemies from the sky" dlc or "more than one cave" dlc, but do you think they would blatantly admit they ****ed up? Another good point raised in another thread is that without modding people are uninstalling the game, which leads to no DLC sales, especially when they're pushing out zero effort things to make a quick buck.

As a matter of fact, one of my friend is going through it and last week he told me: "You were totally right about this and that..." and me to answer "you've just started act 2, you'll have to do it alllllll over again".

I prefer to form my own opinions and will grant others the same right.
What do I say if people ask me "What did you think of DAII?"
I'll say:
I loved it because *Listing reasons*
What do I say if people ask me "Should I buy DAII?"
I'll say:
Up to you. I loved it because *Listing reasons*, but it depends on your preferences, not mine. If you're unsure, play the demo. Still unsure? Rent it.

Not much of a difference really.
Word of mouth can be just as much of a positive as it can a negative. It certainly helped Origins become the success it was, and will now probably ensure that DA2 never even hits 2m copies in sales.

I meant as opposed to "Don't buy it! It'll ruin your life!" or "Buy it, it's awzum!" hyperbole.
And as someone who is working in Sales and Marketing: Such a prognosis.....five weeks after the release? That's not how this works, much as you may want it to.

I'm sure I can find qualities in DA:2, but that would require an amount of effort greater than the effort that was required to put this game together. So I'm not.
Well, then play DAO with that pretty Warden of yours & be happy.

And if DA:2 is not going to make a significant impression in its first few weeks, it will do no better later on. DA:O had positive review momentum, on top of holiday season and a lot of people got DA:O gifted for Christmas. There's nothing DA:2 can look forward to that could help them.
