Okay, ive played BG1 so far and decided to start again, ive read in some guides that one should dual class or multi class a charcter, my own player is usually a fighter, ive also read that to play BG2 its advisable that a charcter has dual/multiclassed, could someone advise there thoughts on this, can you complete BG1/BG2
without dual/multiclassing

For a human, there's a lot of benefit to be had by taking a few levels of something else, but this varies ENOURMOUSLY depending on your class.

If you want to be a fighter for most of the game, then it might be beneficial to start out with a couple levels of Thief and bump up one or two skills as high as you can. It would be far less beneficial to take a couple levels of Wizard...getting a puny number of level 1-2 spells that you have to take your armor off to cast would not be a good investment, and it would hurt your HP by a fair bit.

There's no one right way to make a character, and this includes whether or not you multi/dual class.

Multi class is already well balanced... IMO the game is harder for these guys.
Dual class is where the power is; e.g.. Human mage can start the game as a fighter (1) there by getting access to every weapon in the game i.e. bows or going the other way a fighter could take 1 level of mage so as to allow him/ her to use wands and Familiar.
