I was wondering if there's a list or topic anywhere that address which sort of enemies cause which type of elemental damage. (e.g. dragons cause fire damage) I'm asking primarily because after playing through the game a few times, I have yet to see any use for lightning and cold resistance. As far as I can tell, rage demons cause fire damage, most other demons cause spirit, and spiders cause nature, which justify getting at least some resistance in those. I'd like to find out what other enemies are using, mainly blood mages, saarebas, ect, as there seems to be no reason to use lightning and cold warding runes so far. Thanks!

Electricity resistance is the only one worth investing in (mainly early game, due to diminishing returns on stacking resistance:level scaling ratio), as both Ancient Rock Wraith and Qunari Saarebas have very strong electricity-based attacks.

There is nothing that could really "shield" you against bloodmages attacks(not against the hemorrhage spell for sure).Magical resistence could only reduce the damage, but thats it.

By the way: Is the damage of rage demons/shades completly elemental??
Or is it part physical and elemental?

Dragons also of course use fire based attacks. It's really hard to know, because most enemies just does physical damage. Not sure why game has so many resistances when enemies doesn't really use different elemental attacks so much. More like special cases in special enemies...

You need elemental resistances on nightmare to protect your group against the friendly fire of your own mages.

Thanks for the helpful replies! Now a few more questions if you're willing to help! IN1, could you explain what you mean by diminishing returns on resistances? Are you suggesting that resistance runes aren't worth it towards the endgame?

Also, I was wondering if anyone has any idea what type of damage, if any, templars, Meredith and Orsino cause, and which runes are the most helpful for endgame. Thanks again!

DIminishing returns means that at level 1 with 1000 fire resistsnace you'll be immune, while with the same resistance but at level 20 you'll have 40% (pulling numbers out of my ass, but you get the gist of it I take it). It's like armor/attack/defense...

Fire is helpful versus rage demon backstabs if they're giving you trouble.

Indeed. In fact, the only encounter I really recommend having resistance runes for is ARW. Unless you are having trouble out-maneuvering High Dragon, that is.

If any? Oh, they do cause quite a lot of damage on NM, I assure you  In a simplified form, they all are physical/spirit.

you dont need elemental resitance through the game ofc it will help here and there but you dont hase enough sockets for it. I belive fire is most worth it as also giving protection agaisnt FF from own fire pells. Then ... spirit? belive horrors do spirit and abos /shades might do it too. Nature - spiders. Eletricity like was said ARW kin and saarebas. think thats about it.

Now i have question - magic resistance reduce damage of spells after elemental reduction right? what about elemental attacks for example spiders? does magic resistance will reduce damage taken too ?
also does damage resistance work against spells / elemental attacks ?...
