So far I'm in Act 2 and I have romanced Isabela as far as the point where I sleep with there. Afterwards I talked to her about her marriage and chose all the "Heart" dialogue answers. Now she has changed her outfit and there have also been some talks with companions about sleeping with me etc.

However I have been flirting a lot with Merrill too and now she too is at the point where she wants to sleep with me.

What are my options?

Can I sleep with Merrill, then tell her it was a one night thing and still romance Isabela?

What happens if I respond with "I love you too, move in with me"? How does the game decide which of the two romances is the more "relevant" one? Or can I have both? Isabela would be up for it I'm sure...

Does it have any ill effects if I reject her or sleep with her without committing to it?

Thank you very much in advance, I really hope someone can help me with this... =/

If it's possible, please don't spoiler me too much!

Sleeping with Merrill or Anders will end all other romances, even if you tell them it was just a fling. They are romantic juggernauts, smashing everything in their path;

The important thing is that in DA2, there is no such thing as a "let's break up" talk. Romances can and will end without any sort of notice.

Thx for the quick response.

But if I decline Merrill's "offer" when she's waiting for me at the estate my Isabela romance should still be intact right?

How do I know if everything is ok with my Isabela romance or if I have somehow screwed it up? Is there some kind of variable I can check with the savegame editor or something?

There isn't any sort of method to check aside from the conversations in-game. There will be characters who comment on your romance on occasion, so you can use them as a litmus test. As long as you don't sleep with anyone else, you're fine.

Rejecting Merill keeps the romance with Isabela intact.

100% sure? Even if it's the "last second" reject?

If Merrill turns up at your mansion and you reject her before anything happens, it will definitely keep your existing romance intact. If you sleep with her, then dump her, it will definitely break your existing romance.

(Same exact deal with Anders, apparently.)

If you dip your wick, it's extremely difficult to get the wax off. You have two chances to reject Merrill: pre and post sexy time. If you reject her before dampening her divine, the Isabela romance is fine. If you do it after praising her maker, there is a chance that Isabela's romance remains intact, but most people report that it ends. There is also some really weird (and rare) cases after exploring Merrill's deep roads where both Isabela and Merrill think that they're in a relationship with Hawke in her own conversations, but not in others.

Didn't someone manage to get kisses from isabela and merrill during the final battle? I'm not sure isabelas romance will be cancelled out by another.

Ok the after sex rejection doesnt work and I found this out after Isabela ran off with Zevran witout the option to stop her.

I was romancing Anders, Merrill and Isabela on one playthrough.

Flirted with Anders and Isabela in Act 1.

Slept with Isabela, did not continue romance afterwards.

Flirted and slept with merrill, but rejected after praising her maker.

I thought I had broken it for anders at first, but doing his dissent quest afterwards came with flirt dialogue which fixed it. He will ask you what happened about merrill though before he traverses your deep roads though.
