An invisible walkmesh/tile in any tileset?  I'm looking to have an invisible bridge and can't find a good way to do it.

Any help appreciated.

Hmmm. Don't see it, and yes I did look. ;)

And even if I did, I'm looking to make an invisible bridge over water.

There currently is not such a set of tiles available.

However, it should be fairly easy to "create" by just copying and renaming the normal bridge tiles, then deleting the objects of the bridge itself that have textures assigned.  Leaving everything else alone.  Don't forget to rename the internal sections of the tiles AND to add the new named tiles to the .set file, and to your hak.

If you do it properly, you can have them be variants of any bridge type terrain, so that when you paint a bridge, it will sometimes paint an empty section, still walkable, or paint the full bridge section.

Then you can just keep changing them when building until you get what you are looking for.

Water Placeables and such can let you do some crazy things as well besides doing a hak if you wish. We use the aforementioned barrows interior as a exterior in one spot with the invisible bridge over water.

And in another place we created "wooden" bridges with the use of the raft placeables. There is tons of creative thingys you can do from making a water wheel by hiding a wagon wheel to so many strange and wonderful things.

I looked at everything in the Barrows Interior set and did not see anything "invisible". Clues anyone?

Its not labelled bridge. Its part of that large group with the weird white spots over the pit that you can turn off.

Interesting, but that's not going to cut it this time. I'm looking to have just an area of water with an invisible bridge that I can line with light. Perhaps in a year or so I can learn how to do models and textures and stuff and make it then. ;)

Thanks for the help. At least I know it can be done.

Put a water placeable down, then put down a bunch of the vfx appearences from the cep of the light barriers and viola instant simulated bridge, lol...

Other solutions were already given to you in the thread as well that are exactly what you are looking for.

Name the tileset you want it in and give me a few days to lazy around in, and I'll happily put a hak together for you to achieve this.

(What? I'm bored is all.)

Since this came up, I thought I'd mention that the use of invisible walkmeshes is something that Estelindis and I have investigated with a great deal of success in developing the flying areas for Sanctum of the Archmage 3. We collaborated on the design, which was tailored to the story's need for mixed flying and walking areas for certain scenes, supporting takeoffs, landings, aerial combat, and flying travel, especially involving the module's ridable Pegasi. Este then refined the design and built it as wonderful custom tileset for the series. For anyone interested, here are some screenshots and video clips:

Este would be better able to speak to the implementation details and difficulty, but based on our correspondence that was my impression as well.

Should be pretty easy - assuming I understand you correctly. You are basically looking for a bridge that functions like the normal bridges in various tilesets, but is invisible?

Export the bridge tiles then open them with 3ds or Gmax. Select all the bridge parts and uncheck "Render" (if you want a ghostly bridge - alter the "Alpha" setting instead). You might also want to uncheck "Shadow". Export the model.

If you want to have the invisible bridge be available along with the regular bridges, rename the tiles and duplicate the SET file entires for them. You could also create a new crosser for your invisible bridge.

Was this ever released as a downloadable hak? And if so, where? And if not, who do I send evil cookies of charmed persuasion to make it so?

I don't think I can use anything currently available to me. It's for a PW and we don't add HAKs regularly and like to keep them to a minimum. We do have a custom HAK that will most likely be added to soon however.

As far as particulars - it really does not matter much which tileset, although city would work nicely I suppose. There will not be any other tiles in the area except water and the bridge. I did not think of a "ghostly" version and that might work. What I'm actually trying to create is the Silverymoon Moonbridge using an invisible or ghostly bridge and light beams etc. (another idea for future modeling masters would be diagonal and horizontal light beams - just sayin') I can't use the water placeables as I can't set a start or transition on them I don't think (still working on that).

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Keep on gaming.

It's still a work in progress, and for the time being it's a custom hak for Sanctum 3 (which is in development and hasn't been released yet). It's limited to and focused on the features required for my current building, and it would need more work to become a proper hak for general use. The tiles and groups implemented, for example, were chosen based on the requirements of the specific scenes and areas in the design document for Sanctum 3.

The "Sanctum Flying Skyscape" tileset will definitely become available when Sanctum 3 is released, but for various reasons that project is taking me a lot longer than I'd hoped. Anything earlier would be up to Este, if she decided she wanted to finish and release it as a separate hak. I have been thinking of trying to release a "demo" version of the module in the next few months, just to get something out there; if I do and that's feasible, the current version of the tileset would have to be part of that.

My main point in posting, though, was to make folks aware of the results of our (in my opinion, very successful) experiment with using invisible walkmeshes, especially for flying. I thought that information would be useful to the CC community, since the discussion seemed to be going in the direction of "I don't think that's ever been done, but..." We also didn't think it was an idea that had been explored very much, aside from NinjaWeaselMan's "Space Tileset" (which I had used in Sanctum 2 and which inspired this effort). I also wanted to call attention to the great work Este did in proving that this kind of thing could be done, which I really think she deserves kudos for.

Hey, Six -- if you're ever bored and looking for something to do, please feel free to let me know. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie] The scope of Sanctum 3 is pretty ambitious, and I've been trying to put together a team to help develop it.
