"Text is always a pretty horrible medium for conveying sarcasm or sincerity."

Philosophical statement or nonsense? Perhaps this quote is meant to sarcastically emphasize a truth?

Think about it guys, think about it.

Here's what I came up with:

War is always a pretty horrible medium for conveying gratuitous violence and wasted economic resources.

Let's take a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche: He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.

Fighting with monsters is always a pretty horrible medium for becoming a monster. Gazing in the abyss is always a pretty horrible medium for having the abyss gaze back at you.

And finally:

Dragon Age 2 is always a pretty fantastic medium for conveying the fact that I can make a successful sequel.

Shouldn't it be a medium for conveying the awesomeness of a button?

It's more like a scientific statement. Words themselves have been said to form only 7% of communication while the rest is made up of body and paralanguage. Obviously a voiced character provides a greater sense of what it being conveyed (sarcasm, sincerity, etc) with the use of paralanguage.
