Hey, I just got my free copy of ME2 with the sequel celebration and downloaded the game. I am having a launch problem, as soon as I click play the game beeps, my screen flashes black, crashes, and windows tels me it will contact me if it finds a solution to the problem.., I switched all the settings to minimum but it still immediately crashes, which is lame...

I am almost positive this is a hardware failure, according to canyourunit I have 1.9GB of RAM instead of the reccomended 2GB. Is that really enough to cause an insta-crash? I would have expected maybe a little lag or something...

as for my video card, I pass all the specs:

                                              Required   You Have
Video RAM                       256 MB     762.2 MB
    Hardware T&L                 Yes            Yes
    Pixel Shader version       3.0            4.0
    Vertex Shader version     3.0            4.0

and yet it still says I failed the video card check. If think this may be the problem as I am told I 'fail' the requirements for the video card and it says I have enough to pass all the actual requirements. I have an Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD, is that just not compatible with Mass Effect 2?

According to the reading I pass everything except for 0.1GB of ram, and yet it SAYS I fail on video card and RAM. One of these is causing the problem, I am sure, and I am very curious as to why if I pass the video card requirements my video card is still apparantly unable to run mas effect 2. If anyone can tell me what makes me unable to play I would be grateful. I realize the O.1GB of RAM and whatever is missing from my video card probably means I can never play the game... Don't suppose anyone at Bioware wants to give me a PSN code to get Mass Effect 2 free? No? Not even a little? 'll be your best friend :D

But seriously, whats wrong? I barely miss the requirements and I set everything to min, Iexpected it to run slowly with bad quality, not outright crash a dozen times

Oh, very sorry everyone, I foolishly didn't notice the FAQ and just created a thread. Intel video cards are unsupported by Bioware. Anyone who has the same problem, Intel and Bioware do not get along :P

Sorry for wasting anyone time who read all that... sorry

It's not that Intel and Bioware don't get along, it's simply that Intel integrated chips aren't very powerful for gaming purposes. They're basically chips built into the motherboard. There is no way they will ever be anywhere near as powerful as a dedicated card from ATI or Nvidia. Because of this a lot of games simply don't support them.

It's mostly the older and lower end or simpler games that will run on Intel chips. Stuff like Crysis and Mass Effect and Dragon Age 2 are built to run on more powerful graphics cards (and systems in general).

Yeah, unfortunately CanYouRunIt isn't very accurate. It often gets stuff wrong and it's a really bad measure of actual performance, since passing the minimum/recommended requirements still isn't a guarantee a game will run well. :(

At least it was a free copy. And you can always play it in the future if you get a better machine or graphics card. :)
