Does Hawke not like her family?

Hawke's reactions seem unrealistic to me and really detract the emotional resonance of her family interactions. I just don't get a sense that Hawke really cares about these people.

The game feels rushed to me, I should have waited for the reviews before buying

And you can mourn your siblings if you choose the right dalogue options.
It's not as emotional as one would prefer, but it's not as bad as staring at your half dead father and desperate mother with a blank face.

Thank you for this utterly pointless response.

Why, he's right - issues are numerous. Bland Hawke's responses to family issues are part of the problem.Fadook wrote...

I believe David spoke previously on how the writers are hesitant to force Hawke to emote in a certain way as many players feel it removes their agency. Yes, you think that your Hawke would weep at Bethany's loss but another person says their Hawke would never cry and didn't care about their family member. How do they accommodate both of you?
Dialog options?

This. I don't want to lose control of my character. If they can somehow successfully make being a crybaby optional instead of acting like the guy whose shoulders kirkwall rests its welfare on, fine.

I think someone suggested, an I agree, that having the occasional sad/happy/angry face would be nice.

DG seemed to like it as an option for more additions. It's the easiest way to add more without going too far on symbols.

Hawke's response to her/his sibling dying in the Deep Roads was convincing, but in the escape from Lothering, not much so. I tend to put that down to having little time to escape, but even so... I suppose Hawke may have spent those six weeks on a boat to Kirkwall mourning the dead sibling.

On topic though:
I felt the aggressive options during All That Remains were appropriate.

Cheap pathos.
I was half expecting an anvil to drop on Charade and Gamlen at the end.

While I'm sure some people will disagree, I think the family relationship was treated extremely poorly in this game. Starting with the ham fisted killing of the sibling 5 minutes into the game based on your class. I also felt nothing when my mother was taken/killed because we had no real relationship (despite me trying); I know others have felt very affected by the death but to me it was really weak.
Agreed. I never felt a connection to the protagonist's family (except Carver in an entirely negative way). What made it even worse it the overly dramatic and sobbing voice acting when chasing after your mother in Act 2. PULEEZE. Give me a break. It's too late to make us care about her after you're about to kill her.....and no amount of overwrought, fakey emotionism in the voice acting is going to change that.

Hawke not inviting Gamlen to come live in his / her estate pisses me off greatly. He / she could at least invite him after Leandra died.
I already got Sandal creeping out Merrill;
"She is pretty."
"I think Sandal is watching me."
I don't need the perv Gamlen hanging around more often.
