even more DISTURBING is that "sleeve?" seemingly offered as the 2nd disks "case" thats gets shoved into the manual pocket!!!

WTF?!?!?!? can anyone say "lost odyssey packaging nightmare all over again?!?!?"

yeah remember (those of you who bought it) it had 3 spots on a spindle for the 4 disk game, and the fourth disk was in a god damned paper sleeve forced into the manual slot. come on EA. i guess we all just learned our lessons. the only way you get a decent box is to buy the CE...

I was there..great game btw... but silly sleeve and packaging was odd...though I never had aproblem with my disk or anything..so I didn't really care..

It's cheap..that's why they do it that way....it's called business...but yeah.....still..

Can´t remember wich game it was but it was also a four disk game in a single dvd case, wich means one in the spindle and 3 in different sleeves stuffed in the manual slot... all I remeber is the EA logo on them.

A kitten gets killed every time EA releases a game.

Thats not a sleeve. The EA manual is on top of that disc, not covering it.

God I wish people would stop with the EA hate. When In doubt, blame EA! because their tendrils (apparantly) reach everywhere.

Just ran through every Dev post referencing "manual" on the Dragon Age Central site and here is what I have gleaned from previous discussions. Oh and people should stop using the word manually it greatly increased the difficulty of locating posts about manuals

  • Manual size is dictated by the publisher not Bioware, they want large manuals as well
  • Quote: "I believe the manual, box, map, etc etc etc will all be in english for the CE there."
  • ^confirms manual of some kind
  • Quote from Dan Lazin (Technical Editor)"Thank you, all. (I have been here before, but only back when I was a civilian, and then not much.) I will lock my office door so that Sylvius can't get in, and then I will get back to writing said manual. I keep waiting for the last five pages to write themselves. I think I need to water them more."
  • ^ mentions 5 pages left so if the image in the picture is the manual it isn't the one he was working on, as that wouldn't make sense if was only like 6 pages.
  • Multiple times Bioware stated they wanted to have fairly detailed information in the manual, so at the very least a PDF is highly likely.
  • One person spoke that if it was a PDF they would like the PDF to at least be in format that is easily printable and bound. The devs agreed with this statement so if it is likely easily printable if it does exist.

So after reading this thread, I decided to call some local stores in my area and BB stated they at least had the Collector's Edition GUIDE, which I thought would be better than nothing. At least I could read up on the game over the weekend. The sales associate on the phone verified they had it in stock and when I asked if I could purchase it today, she said YES (I asked her twice too!)

I made my way to the store and had to have a employee look in the back for it (since it wasn't on the shelf), and she came back with the actual CE of the game! I was totally excited and she asked if I wanted anything else, and she ended up going back for the guide as well. I make my way up to register and no go =(

Talked to the manager after that. I figured I wouldn't get the actual game, but I didn't even get the CE guide either! Even after they stated over the phone that I could buy it today.

Another reason I hate dealing w\\ BB, and no one there even said they were sorry for the confusion!

The CE guide isn't available till Nov. 3rd but the regular guide is available at Best Buy. That guide came out 10/20 and you can buy it now. You do have to point them to their own website saying that it was released on 10/20.

the other thing is about that game pic, im sure EA is nearly immune to the early street date breaking due to past retailer indiscretions.

so whats this mean? its very possible that was a photo-shopped pic of the game/manual. i mean bioware seems like EAs favorite 'wife'.

i cant see EA doing a better case/manual/box for warhammer online than dragon age origins right? i mean WAr had a 2-3 slot spindle in the case as well as a decent manual, (compared to their 2 page manuals).

anyways, i would love to see an official screenshot of the game box, manual and disks. also is it a known fact that the game is a 2 DVD install??? (i guess i can go look at the FAQ section to find this out...)

yeah, i watched lots of videos last week from various sites of reviewers who got their >>>360<<< copies in for review. that was those videos floating around of the fancy box and letters with wax seals along with the health potion energy drink. so im sure theres at least a couple hundred people playing right now if not thousands pending on how many review copies were sent to however many countries at the same time...

as for some "proof of purchase" i would love to see better proof myself. i dont think anyone is getting the game today randomly. and if they are, im sure they wont be here posting when one of the coolest games of the new millennium just fell into their hands...

I was at Walmart today (ya, it is sad but owell) so figured i would go ask to see if they had the game. The lady found it, i got excited, and right before she was about to scan and sell it to me, looked on the box she pulled it out of and saw a big "Do not sell till Nov. 3" sign...it made me so sad

I can confirm the the Prima Guide is on sale at Best Buy. It was available on 10/20 and the store availability said it was in stock. I went to the Best Buy and it was not in the stands. The salesman had to go to the back and check the new releases and low and behold it was there. I bought it just so I can read the character information before release. I don't plan on reading the quest section though. I live in Tallahassee Florida.

The game I think was said to be 10 gigs. So it needs 2 DVDs

So, my wife and I went to best buy last night. Just out of curiosity, I asked the fella there if they had Dragon Age. In typical Retail Store fashion, he didn't know and had to go check. When he finally came back he said "looks like the game isn't due out until Nov 3rd". I said: "Ah. Who do I have to bribe to get it early?" He said "Not me..." and walked off. After that my wife's face scrunched up and she said: "Wait here..." She then went to a manager and used her womanly wiles (She's not un-hot). She got the manager to go in the back and get the game for her. She then got the manager to at least CONSIDER selling it. The part the manager kept getting hung up on was the fact that the store would be fined $10,000 if they were caught selling the game early. Personally, I didn't care and I told him that wasn't enough to keep me from my sweet, sweet game. He, on the other hand, thought it was. I feel if I had left the situation alone, my wife could probably have convinced him it was a paltry amount.

Oh well. I tried. :D

Your intimidate and persuade skills weren't high level enough, your wife got past the first persuade option but you messed up the second one and made the level 26 Manager hostile.

curse you darn americans! spare a thought for your poor english cousins who have to wait till the 6th!

that said, as long time loyal customer of a local indie game store where they all know me by name I should be able to get my hands on my copy on the 5th possibly even the 4th depending on when they have their delivery.

However this thread has reminded me of the time i found legendary for sale in blockbusters a WEEK before release so i'm heading there now.

Wish me luck ;)

I'm on ym way to pick up the strategy guide form Best Buy, they've got it waiting for me! :)

I'm going to stick to the character creation chapters though, obviously I don't want to spoil myself. I usually save the walk-throughs for my second play through.
