i've done everything and i'm back in the "raw fade" area.  i followed through the level with my new shapeshifting ablilities until i got to the area with the ship, and now i'm just staring at this sparkly doll thing that doesn't seem to do anything, no matter what shape i'm in.  it seems like it should be some kind of portal to the center part, but i'm not sure how.   is something not happening that is supposed to in my game, or am i just not solving the puzzle?

Umm...have you defeated all of the bosses, in each area, that protect the Sloth yet?

The 'doll' provides a +1 Dexterity boost and that's all. You need to back-track to where Niall is and use the spirit door there to get into the middle area where the boss is.

To beat the demon in the raw fade, you have to go into the Spirit form and you'll be able to access the doors. Go through the door in the Raw Fade and you'll fight a demon there.

Yep, spirit door got me too...it's right next to Niall quite literally.
