CGI scenes render this impossible.
Those aren't really "CGI scenes" though. Not in the usual sense. Like with most Bioware games lately (DAO, DA2, JE) those cutscenes are entirely done with the game engine. As a result, they invariably look worse than cutscenes done in realtime due to being recorded, encoded, and compressed. I've never been able to figure out why Bioware does this. Best guess is that it saves space.

I am talking about the scenes that Blur does.

+1 because I don't know if you counted me
Also what exactly are "pre rendered" in ME, I mean in SM you could see different outfits of the crew in scenes, right? So why not Normandy?

You know what would be pretty nice?
An empty room that you could customize as you wish.
Perhaps, Shepard's cabin?
You could select from a wide variety of furniture and move them around, change the wallpaper, etc. Impractical, but hey, it would be fun.

It would be nice if Shepard had his own space station Suikoden style. It would give you a huge area to upgrade, with more recruitable characters that could move there, and you could modify or upgrade the Normandy with cutscenes included where the upgrades and other changes are applied. With each race and character you recruit, the station changes and upgrades and grows and more cool stuff unlocks. Ahhh...a man can dream....
I think I've said this before but i love this idea. I also like the idea of a secluded/unmarked planet where you can have an upgradable base that grow as you progress, and since it would be on a planet you could have deffense cannons that could be upgraded to Thanix cannons. Haha we can dream
Yeah, it would rock. Not only would you be given a viable option for how to customize your ship with paints as well as official upgrades and customizations, but you would be able to fit in all the things like an armory, codex museum with exhibits, real research lab, shooting range (or as I would preffer, a virtual simulation room like Pinnacle Station in ME1), your own Afterlife bar, and just about everything else without making the Normandy look like a bloated fish. Plus, your characters would have real homes there and it would facilitate them hanging out at the bar together or training in the VR or just about anything else.

I doubt that they are rendered in realtime, didymos.

The Blur ones are trailers only. Seriously: just look at the cinematics for any of those games. They're very obviously using the game engine and just recording it. The models, textures, all that stuff, are no different than those used in gameplay or realtime cutscenes, and they're of visibly lower quality due to the bink codec.

Prerendered cutscenes also allow flashy graphic effects and big maps show up without stress on the machine. Battle of Ostagar was prerendered because most PCs (even those thatcould handle DA:O on highest details) would freeze when actualy rendering a cutscene with that many actors in it.
Point. But the fact is, many of the prerendered cinematics aren't more visually complex than those done realtime.

It would be a point if some of ME2's cutscenes lived up to the in-game resolution. The PC cinematics looked horrible.

I have the feeling that with the alliance tearing into the normandy they'll take off all the good upgrades we installed. Like the upgraded weapons, armor, and shields. I hope this doesn't happen cause I still want my normandy to kick major butt against every other ship, including the reapers.
+100 absolutly i busted my quad mining those planets to get enough recourses to upgrade the Normandy and that goes for my weapons upgrades as well. Please Bioware don't take my work away from me.

That's an artifact of the codec, which is lossy. What Kusy is talking about is stuff like number of elements onscreen, number of FX applied to objects in the scenes, etc. A good example in ME2 would be the Collector Base approach sequence: there's tons and tons of objects in the debris field and many aren't static. Then there's all the maneuvering of the SR-2 and Oculi and all the beam effects and the like. While the game engine can handle that, it can't do so in a resource-friendly way. So instead they run it in realtime on a suitably powerful system and record it.
