Seriously, though, that's pretty interesting. Not what I was expecting, but interesting nonetheless.

From a person (myself) who has demanded a marketing campaign with less spoilers, this sort of content is EXACTLY what I want.

I am learning new details about Mass Effect 3....without having to be spoiled.

Yes, sound design doesn't sound important, but for a game like ME where the core is how much you are immersed, sound design IS probably one of the more important aspects. I'm going to be playing ME3 on a 55" TV with Onkyo 5.1 surround sound (I might update to 7.1 by the time ME3 comes out) so sound is really important to me.

I understand that it won't always stay like this and that come E3, that is when Bioware will get into the real meat of marketing ME3 which might include plot details which equals spoilers. However for the moment, I am not complaining as this is what I want. I am being teased without being fully committed. Its like a girl giggling after you slap her on the azz but you know you're still not able to fully do the deed with her, she is just teasing you and leading you on which is what I like. It makes the actual "deed" more enjoyable because you've been teased the whole time and now you're ready to explode.

The work that they're doing to make the sound more immersive and related to the surroundings is important, I'm glad they've got the engine worked out and now can really can become concentrated on making me feel like I'm right there.

And yes the new assault rifle sound is kickin' arse.

If any of you have played Battlefield: Bad Company 2, they'd know how important a role the sound plays when it comes to putting the player in the middle of the action. I'm really pleased that Bioware has taken some advice from DICE, because their sound effects are simply amazing. I'd go as far as saying that just the sound itself makes you feel as if the war is raging all around you.

Awesome job! I'm really excited!

That's really nice.

Have you heard of Rainbow Six Vegas 2?
It's a tactical, but very simple, consolized shooter. It's not a very good game but,

I think that the only reason I have been playing it non-stop are the addictive sound effects. Hope this happens with ME3 as well.

I rent that game yesterday.

Controls are... not very good.
A.I. is... I saw worse.
Graphics are nice.
Sound is... addictive to listen.

Anyone else think that new assault rifle they played the sound too looks A LOT like the Combine standard issue pulse rifle from Half Life 2?

The new AR does indeed sound really good in comparison. One of the things that turned me off from Assault Rifles (and I guess the Soldier class to a degree) was the sound and feel of the Vindicator. I mean, the later SMGs sounded and felt better than it.

I'm with you on that. I don't really care about spoilers all that much, but something like sound design is really interesting to me. I like learning about the "guts" of a game now because I think we'll have plot information overload as we approach the release date.

Hmm I was just thinking about it from the side (thats what she said).  Sorry, havent played HL2 in a long time, it just seemed vaguely similar at first thought.

I doubt we will see Mansell's work any time soon.

As long as he sticks with the good old ME1 music design and layout, I'd be happy. The ME2 soundtrack was nice and some pieces are outright awesome (Samara FTW), but the ME1 score was nothing less than mindblowing and it does fit the ME universe a lot better in my opinion.

This x 1000. Make it happen Bioware/Mansell!

So long as my Claymore keeps its epic "boom" sound I'll be a happy camper. Loving this type of info though.

Vindicator sounded soft compared to the other weapons imo. Mattock and Claymore always made me feel ready to tear sh*t up though.

I agree with Shnizzler. The Vindicator sounded...very weak. Hopefully this issue is already resolved, as the last long-range assault rifle (Mattock) sounded beastly.

I really liked the video, and especially the ending. Hearing him say that was very reassuring.

I'm excited to hear the environmental impact on sounds. I recently played Crysis 2, and the sounds of the gunfire echoing through the city streets was impressive.

The Best sounding weapons were the Avenger and Geth Pulse Rifle when fired in Adrenaline Rush. It's a shame they suck at damaging health, only good for shield stripping and suppressing fire.

So true. (Except I'm poor right now so I'm still working on even having HD visuals for the finale, oi.)

But yes, I don't want BioWare leaking too much right now. I think I might be more liberal in my hopes for spoilers than you are -- I'd like to see a decent bit of them by the time the game's around the corner -- but seven months out, I sure as heck don't want to know all the hub worlds and have it revealed that Miranda's a sleeper agent. No thanks. Too frelling early.

This stuff intrigues me as well. I'm a big-time Metal Gear Solid fan and Kojima Productions has managed to take aural immersion to heights I've never seen elsewhere in gaming. If BioWare can come close to that level of blissful atmospheric quality, I'm going to jump for joy.

Yeah, compared with every other weapon, the CAR and the Revy sound absolutely wicked. Mantis, Widow and the Claymore also do have that special *BOOM*, but the CAR and Revy comapred to the ME weapons sound like the MG42 does to other weapons in our reality, ... simply wicked.

Loving the idea of environments changing how weapons sound. Imagine a shotgun in a tiny room. Oh, man.

I completely agree with you, although I would hesitate to give a lot of credit to DICE and BFBC2 for this idea. Not because they don't do a good job, but because sound has always been incredibly important to create atmosphere and immersion.

Can you imagine Bubble Bobble without the music? :)

Alot more of ME2's music was just as epic if not more as well. And I think they shouldn't try to be like ME1, ME3 has progressed and grown more, it would seem strange to go backwards. If anything I think they should head more towards Clint Mansells The Fountain and Moon syle soundtrack with a hint of that classic ME but with a new take. I think ME3 will sound more classic and elegant but yet bleak and intense at the same time.
