Okay, I got it.  Well, kinda half way.  I figured out from an earlier post by SoI that I needed to focus in on the "DOS" screen (that's what I call it anyway) when I am installing Level1NPCs and was able to follow through and make the changes I wanted.
And, finally I got it to work right with my BGII installation.
Here's the rub.  With my BGI/Easy Tutu is not quite working.  I load everything up, go through the installation and proceed to play.  Well, I try.  I double click my Easy Tutu Icon on the desktop; click "play" on the BG welcome screen; go through the movies etc, then click "Single Player" and "New Game".  But...after starting to load it freezes up and I have to Cont/Alt/Del to get out.
I went back last night and read the Read Me(s) carefully and it appears that there are files that need to be removed from the installation folder after installation.  I am trying to add NPC-1 Project also.  I loaded "Project", took out what I thought were the right files and it appeared that it was going to load - took me all the way through to characted generation.  So, I backed out and did the same (or so I thought) with Level1NPCs but it froze up again.

I know I'm close.
Two things throw me a little:  1) All the files and folders associated  with the Level1NPCs and NPC1 Project installations don't necessarily go into the installation folder; some are in the Easy Tutu folder but not inside the specific installation folder within Easy Tutu as the Read Me seems to suggest.  That's okay, just makes me a little wary when I right-click, delete.  2)  The file names in the Read Me aren't exactly what I find in my installation/Easy Tutu folder - again this makes me wary b/c I don't wanna delete something I still need.
Anyway, as usual, beggin' for some adult supervision in Charleston.

if you specified the correct directory for Easytutu (which I'm not familiar with but I've used Level1NPCs for years), and let's assume your tutu directory is c:\\easytutu\\ just to keep it simple.

now right after you download the .exe from G3 for level1npcs (e.g. level1npcs-v1.5.exe) and double click on it, accept the little warning, then it will specify where to install. In this case you'd select c:\\easytutu\\ and click install. It's going to add the following 2 files into c:\\easytutu folder
setup-level1npcs.exe and setup-level1npcs.debug and it's also going to create the c:\\easytutu\\level1npcs\\ folder and put all the mods files there.

Note: it also puts the level1npcs.tp2 in the actual \\level1npcs\\ folder instead of the game root folder like most other weidu mods. not sure why.

If you look in your weidu.log file in the c:\\easytutu\\ folder and DONT see anything related to Level1NPC mod, it's safe to delete the \\level1npcs\\ folder along with those 2 files from the root game directory.

I can't speak much for NPC-1 project as I've never used it but if it's weidu, it's probably the same.

PS, you're probably going to have a better communal troubleshooting effort both at the mod sites and the EasyTutu site.

There are some bugs associated with level1 npcs that could cause your game to crash like that - see this post.  If you haven't installed the latest hot-fix for the mod you could try doing that, but what I would suggest first is that you initially instal level1 npcs only with the required files for the mod, i.e. make no changes to any character.  This will establish whether a game glitch is caused by the mod or something else, e.g. not having fully patched the original installation properly.  If the game is OK with just the basic mod installed you can then instal characters 1 by 1 (just double-click on setup file each time to re-run installation) to check which one is giving you problems.  If you have done this then Miloch at level1 npcs forum is helpful about correcting any identified problems (hence the hot-fixes).
