That link doesn't work for newer versions of Windows for some reason; at least the downloader refused to run for me. Maybe try this link. The installer should work fine once you have the files.

Thank you, Thorsson 64. Okay, so I've downloaded that, but it actually asks me where I want to download the files to - what's the correct answer to that, in this case?

Doesn't matter. You download and then run the setup. I put it in my Download folder for some reason...  :D

Okay, I tried that, downloaded it to (to be specific) its very own folder on my desktop...didn't work.

Did I do it wrong, somehow? What I wound up with was a buttload of compressed files with titles sporting month/year dates in addition to other gibberish.

Included in all those files should be one called Dxsetup.exe. That's the one you run.

*sigh* Okay, I've tried your DirectX. It didn't work.

looks like you'll need to try a re-install

- save wanted stuff.

- deinstall

- clean registry & temp files w/ CCleaner

- defrag

- update win7

- install dx9c

- proper install (depends on your game edition)

Try running in the game in "XP mode"?

Wait, what? Please explain.

I've effectively been taking a break from this problem today, just for the record - I'm certainly not going to let it lie.

Use the help function and look for "Windows Compatibility Mode". It varies slightly between versions of Windows but it often improves the reliability of older programs on newer PCs.

People generally haven't found it necessary; in fact I've not found it helps anything, but YMMV. It's pretty quick to try because you can just untick if it does nothing or makes things worse.

For some reason, I can't access the game's Properties to try running it in compatibility mode (this being a larger computer problem rather than a game-specific problem, of course) - I feel like I *should* know what to do, but it's eluding me.

Sounds like you may not have Administrator rights.

Okay, that problem - what's funny is that I CAN access the Properties of just about anything else - I've also got Wizardry 8 on here, just for example, both it and Neverwinter Nights 2 are pegged to my Start menu...but they're separated by a mysterious blue line.

Any suggestions on Administrator rights? I seem to have them for everything else.

Try using the desktop and creating your own shortcut? TBH I don't run mine as Administrator, but the option is there. In fact I don't run it with any special settings at all. I have no idea what your thin blue line is though. It sounds like maybe you should check it out on an MS Tech Support forum.

Maybe I should just skip straight to the reinstall as described above? It can't hurt anything, right (before you answer that, understand that I don't actually care about my saved games at the moment)?

No, it can't hurt anything. Make sure you save your CD keys somewhere.

I lost those some time ago, I'm afraid. I did try looking for them. I've been lifting "skeleton keys" from online, though kevL said it shouldn't be involved in my problem.

"ProgFiles?" I can't find that - that may be the same reason I've been unable to access the game's Properties to run it in Compatibility mode.

Program Files

that path was shorthand, different Operating Systems use different paths

you'll find your CD-keys in NwN2's installation directory.

I realize, but that (the "installation directory") is what I can't find. I'm running Windows 7, and am new to it.

I'm running Windows 7, and NWN2 is installed under c:\Program Files (x86)\Atari\ on my computer.

Okay, I found it...but now that I'm there, I don't see anything labeled "Installation" or anything synonymous. Maybe I don't know what I'm looking for. Should it be a folder, or something else?
