In the end, though, one of the half-answers just needed a little revision.
Transfer errors during installation can be caused by a number of conflicts, but can typically be caused by an error reading the disk. There are a number of steps that will help to prevent this error from occurring.
End
all unnecessary background processes. This will help insure that the
installation is not conflicting with programs and processes running
concurrently.
If
that does not resolve the issue, you should continue with some basic
installation troubleshooting. These steps will resolve conflicts with
the actual installer, itself.
If you still experience the issue, try CD-ROM troubleshooting to verify the integrity of the disk.
If
none of these steps work, you will want to attempt a hard drive
installation of the game. In this process, you copy the game files to
the Desktop, so that the disk, although necessary for running the game,
is not necessary for installation.[/list]
Right-click the Desktop, select New, and select Folder.
Insert Disk 1 into the drive.Exit any autoplay screen that may appear.
Open My Computer.
Right-click the CD-ROM drive containing Disk 1 and select Open.
Click Edit at the top of the window.Click Select All.
Click Edit again.Click Copy.Close the window.
Right-click the New Folder on your desktop and select Paste. (The game files will now copy.)
Once the files from Disk 1 are copied, repeat steps 2-5 for Disk 2.
Open the Setup folder on the disk.Press and hold down the Ctrl (Control) key on your keyboard whilst clicking on
[DA:O UE disk 2 dose not have those, it dose have many other compressed data files. Copy them from the Data folder in Disk2 instead]
Click Edit.
Click Copy.
Close the window.
Double-click the New Folder.
Right-click the
Upon completion, remove all disks from any drives.
Double-click the Setup folder.
Double-click on the Setup icon that looks like a computer. (The installation should now begin.)
Also, if like me, you have trouble copying a specific file (mine was anims.erf) you may need to copy it off of another copy (in my case, my brother's DA:O CE's disk)
I hope this saves people as much trouble as it would have myself.
