Hello.  I am running a computer with the latest drivers for my video coard, and windows 7 service pack 1.  After installing Dragon Age 2 (retail release DVD), I get all the through the launcher, but I get a screen that says An Error has occurred.  and it says that there is a problem with my game's setup, and to reinstall.  I am paraphrasing but that is very close.  The icon in the taskbar is a green EA icon.  The game itself has never launched for me.  I have tried to reinstall several times but it seems to never try the EA stuff again.  The first time it at least had a spinning icon like it was thinking.  I have also tried it after updating to 1.02, and 1.01.  to see if either of them would help.  No dice.  I have not found anything in the forums that has helped me.  If anyone can that would be cool.

I did some preliminary troubleshooting.  I think its a problem with EA core.  Not dragon age itself.  How on earth do I get that looked at?

I have
Asus M378em
AMD 9600 processor
4GB ddr2 800
Sapphire Radeon 3870

Have you tried going into the game's directory and launching the game through DragonAge2Launcher.exe and not whatever wrapper EA has put on it?

The problem happens after dragonage2.exe is started. The launcher works fine, I can do config and all that, but I don't get the error until it starts "loading" the actual game exe.

have you check event viewer to see if anything is there?

I couldn't find anything in event viewer. I looked around a bit in the installation directory, and when I delete EACore_App.ini it changes to an awc.dll error. So I think it has something to do with that particular file. I do not know how to change it however. these are the contents

Tried a full un-/re-install (with a re-boot in between) yet? That worked for me when I had a borked ME2 install.

I have yes. I think I will try again, and manually clean all the folders out.

I had this problem with either Origins or DA2. The remedy was to install Adobe Air. I have the digital version though... if it matters.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I uninstalled dragon age 2, restarted, uninstalled adobe air, restarted, installed adobe air, restarted, installed dragon age II, restarted, and now it works. HUZZAH!

I'd never even heard of "Adobe Air" before now, whatever it is. But if it's what was wrong, this may help someone with the problem today (hmm?  I didn't want a DA2 answer, I wanted DAO, drat it!).

@Gorath Alpha;

"Adobe AIR" is a "helper" program (from everyone's favorite bloatware-but-also-indespensable-software provider.) It's a utility employed by many software publishers/distributors to assist with the delivery to the client machine. (Guess who's direct download store uses it?)

Interesting. I followed up with some of the programmers here and at EA. DAO relied on version 2.0 of some EA software that did indeed use Adobe Air. DA2, however, uses version 3.1 of that software. The programmers at EA have confirmed that version 3.1 definitely doesn't use Adobe Air in any capacity.

We'll continue to investigate although we haven't been able to reproduce this issue internally yet. Out of curiosity, what happens when you uninstall Adobe Air altogether?
