3. Problem Details
Overview
When I first started playing it was laggy, the voices where all cut off and it made that high pitched "I'm-gunna-crash noise" and then it would blue screen half way though dialogue.
It seems, I may have fixed that, or google fixed it anyway.
I deleted BIOengine.txt as it was suggested and now it doesn't blue screen, I think. It runs better anyway, the dialogue, is not as bad. (this probably depends on my video settings in game but I don't know, seems to be more sound related even though it is very laggy on some video bits)
Now
Even after the blue screening MAY have stopped it still crashes, so I think this is a different issue.
b - It seems to be the 10-15 minute crash people are talking about.
c - I will go black, the music will keep going. I can get out of it using Ctrl Alt and Del but there's not much point
because when I close the program the resolution on my desktop is all out. (You know, when everything appears bigger) When you try and run Mass Effect like this you can hear the music but it stays black; I think these issues are related.
d - It happens everywhere. It lags the most during dialogue. (See E)
E - I'll make it as clear as possible.
No matter what setting I have certain bits are always choppy.
1. When I load up the game and the first few of the planet; even with the graphics down so much it looks like a minecraft planet it still lags, it doesn't make much sense as I can play Oblivion on full, smoothly. The music at THIS point is choppy so maybe the lag is because of that rather than the video, but I don't want to rule anything out.
2. Most of the time, when entering dialogue. Starts laggy then smooths. Again, it still lags at other point in gameplay too but there you go.
3. The intro video with Shepard looking out of the window. Lags like hell for a few seconds then smooths out.
4. When walking up to the spectar when you're about to go to eden prime.
I haven't go very far but I have restarted the game a few times to try it out. Those are just so you can get a general idea of what it's like.
When it lagged during dialogue it used to blue screen, it might not do this now.
I can't say in the 40 minutes (all together) I have played that it has frozen in dialogue since.
5. It crashed (went to black) when I was in a fight, I stated to heal and it stopped.
6. When I rebooted I managed to complete the whole mission without it crashing and then it crashes when we arrive at The Citidel. At the END of the little video where you're supposed to be there.
So that is pretty much it. I have a few concerns though.
It seems to me that you're probably going to tell me to update my drivers, or, downgrade windows service pack, or DOWNgrade my driver. All of theseI have no experience in.
When they installed my drivers for my new graphics card they where having trouble but they got it done.
Is it worth the risk for a single game that may or may not work?
Might not be worth sacrificing my other games for let alone maybe perhaps the whole lot of them if something goes wrong.
So how safe is it doing these things? And will it affect my other games?
I obviously care enough to write all this out (some of it was damn near impossible to find out) so maybe I think it's worth the risk.
I'd just like to know how to do this without messing up my computer.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read thought all this **** for me.
