@ISI it can be easily explained as a disguise; what better way is there than to look like the people responsible for hunting mages in the first place?
but that doesn't save it from the fact it looks horrible. in fact, all the robes look horrible.

I wish they could have made mages wear normal clothing rather than 'robes'. Even proper robes would work (with the risk of making them look jedi). Something like a lighter version of rogue armour could work... ah well.

Anyway, we shouldn't turn Arelex's guide into another robe rant - there are plenty of threads about it already :)

@tseri- yeah, it's possible to get three ~100+ items. it helps if you have runes of fortune and if you don't spend as much on potions (and sell them instead).

Not sure you want/need to buy final thought though..

robe of unblemished cleanliness.
it's the robe from the black emporium in act 3...with the wrong initials. :/

The other thing I dislike about those robes is that they make you look like a Sister of the Chantry, which makes no sense whatsoever because the Chantry doesn't have or condone mages in their ranks.

Perhaps in a misguided fugue of artistic sloth, the designer responsible had the not so brilliant idea of simply recycling the model for a Sister of the Chantry, and incorrectly assumed that customers wouldn't notice or care.

FAIL.

You can always change the appearance via GFF editor (unless you are playing on the PS3). I changed RoUC to The Fugitive's Mantle in my last playthrough. I always change weapon and armor appearances with mods, because some designs are down right retarded in this game. The likes of RoUC, dlc daggers, The Empress's Point, etc...always get a cosmetic change in my games.

question, is it really attainable to purchase Robes of Unblemished Cleanlines, Ring of Ferryman, and the Final Thought?

I mean, earlier in run through I had to buy lots of elf-root and also I spend so much upgrading the armor of my companions. I didn't want to leave one out since you might use them one way or another in quests for Act 3... As of the moment, I can only purchase one and I'm planning to purchase the Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness.

Using SuicidalBaby's excellent moneygenerating tips, I had no trouble affording the first two by early act 3.  Not familiar with the 3rd item, but if it's less than say 80-100gp I probably could have afforded that too before the end of act 3.

@ISI it can be easily explained as a disguise;

Not really, no ... because the game doesnt pay attention to what the player looks like. I can, and have (for example), finished the climax of DA2 buck nekkid, and the game utterly ignored it.  I'll assume you were just offering a roleplayable explanation ... but even in that light it doesnt really work, because remember that by the time you get the RouC in act 3, EVERYONE with eyes knows who the champion of kirkwall is on sight, and you can bet the farm that ALL the key players on both sides of the Mage vs Templar debate would have been falling all over themselves jumping to conclusions the instant Hawke showed up anywhere in public sporting high-ranking chantry robes.   Yet another example of the game not really lending weight and significance to the consequences of your decisions.

Anyway, sorry for the semi-OT digression.  Back on topic ...

Quick question I have been following this build to the T and I am a pure mage and was wondering what helmet is better? Helmet of The Champion W/ Set Bonus or The apostate's Mask? I'm leaning towards the Mask but not sure if the set bonus makes up for the difference

The set bonus is junk and comes nowhere near compensating for +10% damage, let alone everything else. The Apostate's Mask is far and away the better piece.

The Champions armor is by far the worst equipment for this build.

Quick Question: I've been following this guide religiously, and I downloaded the DLC items, but should I keep using Malcom's staff? I know it levels up with you, but should I use it until Act III to buy that really expensive staff that I'm blanking on the name of?

just go generic, save for voracity, until you get the torch

with the extra levels from the Legacy dlc, plan to shop around before you lock yourself into the endgame sequence. You should get lucky at any of the random staff merchants and catch a rare at some point. It will most likely trump anything availible in the game @ lvl 25+

Thank you both! I did just get voracity, and I'll look at the vendors periodically.

Example of random staff:

the best elementalist staff at lvl 25 is a 10 gold rare from the vendor in the wounded coast.

Magus' Goods, Wounded Coast
Staff of the Magister - 10.8g - rare(orange) random
50 cold damage
+17% fire damage
+10 cold damage
blood mage +1
42 mag/wil required

Loving this build so far. I think i'm going to cut blood slave and hemorhage and go for haste and heroic aura on Hawke though so Anders has more mp, + double haste is awesome. Think that's a good idea?

Upon furthur testing, screw haste it only lasts 5 seconds and is hardly worth taking the time to cast.

EDIT: Odd, in your videos haste lasts a hell of a lot longer than mine does.

EDIT2: Ah apparently it still is affected by your magic resist on every difficulty but nightmare, oh **** I've been discovered!

I've been messing around a bit with this build on my 360 (the people I trust to fix my PC can't do so for another 4 weeks, boohoo) and was wondering which staff is the best to stick the primeval lyrium rune in for when I do my 'proper' playthrough when I get my PC back. Also, does the Final Thought still do physical damage for people on the 360? Mine does, so I've been holding off buying it. And also, if money isn't an issue, which amulet/rings/gloves and boots are best?

Don't worry, I'll think of more questions later.
