thendcomes says (and proves with number magic or something) the final thought is the best staff

i put mine in the torch a while ago, though

for the item changes in the patch to apply themselves, you have to start a completely new playthrough, i think. a pre-existing one won't change.

look around some mage threads for thendcome's post on mage gearing, it's the one in the gameplay forums where i was yelling at some roleplayer, i don't remember who or why or what the thread was

I've been messing around a bit with this build on my 360 (the people I trust to fix my PC can't do so for another 4 weeks, boohoo) and was wondering which staff is the best to stick the primeval lyrium rune in for when I do my 'proper' playthrough when I get my PC back. Also, does the Final Thought still do physical damage for people on the 360? Mine does, so I've been holding off buying it. And also, if money isn't an issue, which amulet/rings/gloves and boots are best?

Don't worry, I'll think of more questions later.

This seems to be a common issue for Xbox360 version of the game. The latest patch was supposed to change the staffs base damage from physical to nature, but the change doesn't always apply to Xbox360 version of the game, it seems.
I wrote a guide on how to fix it via GFF editor a while ago. You can find it here. social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/308/index/7706729/6#7778830
One of the devs also suggested deleting The Black Emporium dlc, starting a new game and reinstall The Black Emporium dlc. You can also try using this method, but it didn't work for me.

A concise appraisal of the best mage staves are in the Mage DPS spreadsheet thread in my sig. It assumes best gear and talent choices, though it doesn't include the new Mage Pack 2 staff. It's not a black and white issue though. The only certainty is that the PLR belongs in either the Torch or TFT, assuming you can fix the TFT to be nature as intended. If not, Torch is the only candidate. Everything else depends on what talents and gear you have.

Note that regardless of where you put the PLR, the best staff for auto attack will always be the latest available staff that your enemy is weak against. And remember that the relative strength of the PLR decreases during Haste.

I don't come here often at all so it's only recently that I found your guides for all three classes -- they are just insane...   To echo the sentiment of someone who commented on your youtube video: are you the final boss? :wizard:

^ Will you be releasing tutorials on how to beat you?

What happens if someone follows those tutorials perfectly? XD

Dude, I just asked a question on your youtube account. Why Blood Mage? I don't really see the benefits of casting from health unless you got 8 different sustainables going?

1. less points into wil = more points into mag = more damage. no need for lyrium potions, which is a big help, since spells like firestorm are cost heavy

2. every single ability in the BM tree is worth getting post patch

blood slave enslaves an enemy, redirects threat, and guarantees a walking bomb style explosion for 75% of the target's max health

hemorrhage deals huge damage off a stagger, and since it deals its damage in ticks, can bypass the damage cap on lieutenant rank enemies

sacrifice/grim sacrifice + grave robber/one foot in give you self heals, so you never have to drop out of blood magic. upgraded grave robber also can heal you off of live enemies while dealing a little spirit damage

bloodlust improves your blood:'mana' ratio, giving you more cost-efficient casting

blood magic is the ****

Sorry if this has already been explained. I skimed through all 23 pages and didn't see it.

You have Merrill activating Wrath of the Elvhen, Rock Armor and Elemental Weapons. This takes her down to 60% mana and Blood of the fist requires 70%.

I noticed SuicidialBaby has a similar tactic build that does the same thing so am I missing somthing?

Great guide

so long as your active sustains don't hit 100% exactly, you can bypass the cap

You are right. They will all go if Wrath of the Elvhen is activated last but even when I put it last in the tactics it still doesn't work for me. I have to fire them all off to start and if she has to turn off Blood of the Fist in a fight (which she almost never does) then she can't turn it back on unless Wrath of the Elvhen is turned off 1st.

I think it is worth getting the extra sustained though so I just take over when it happens.

Great guides! Thanks for taking the trouble to make them.

Just want to point out something though... I think you mistyped the top tactic for Fenris:

Fenris (for shameful PC players who shall remain nameless)
...

Self: Health > 25% - Use Potion
...

Hi, sorry to sound like an idiot with this, but what are the attribute allocations for the companions? For both team Glass Cannon and Red Mist

Arelex has returned! I've been waiting for this. Looking forward to seeing your MotA highlights. :-)

A few questions regarding Blood Slave:

(1) Its duration varies randomly, but seldom lasting as long as 15 sec (I only cast on basic troopers). It's more like 5~10 sec. How does this affect your casting strategy? Perhaps you should cast it in the middle of a fight (when enemies are more bunched up) rather than in the beginning?

(2) It almost *never* kills the victim (I haven't upgraded to Blood Splatter yet). Perhaps it does in less than 5% of the cases but I've never noticed that happening. I have all DLC +% damage items and an insane damage output on my whole party. But even Skeletal Archers with their midget Health Bar refuse to die. Is this supposed to happen?

(3) Its casting animation is VERY long. Longer than Hemorrhage, and without doubt the longest animation of any ability in DA2. How does this affect your strategy in its casting?

Thanks!

Oh and I must say the new Firestorm and Tempest tactics on companions are spectacular. Carpet Bombing. Area Denial. Scorched Earth. It validates the fear for Mages in Thedas. You validate that fear.

i hate mark of the assassin and i hate da2, i just came back to see if you peons were lost without me (you are)

1. blood slave duration is affected by difficulty + enemy rank, but the explosion is guaranteed. they will simply turn back into an enemy before the explosion on NM

2. sounds like the immortal enemy glitch, or you just not having blood spatter

3. i get my glow sticks and dance along with hawke while it casts

Don't we all.

But I think you'll like ME3. We peons ("Work, work") will be happy to watch your ME3 highlights in 2012.

Do it. I enjoy watching your vids (I think we all do). I will probably never forget the Opera Hurlock from your Legacy vid lol. I started laughing every time I encountered that stupid Hurlock, all because of your damn vid.  It really wasn't all that funny before.
And off course it's nice to see some of those skills at work. You always come up with a trick or two that seem to trivialize the already trivial fights even more.

I wouldn't mind seeing a mota vid if you can stomach it. I did it with a rogue and it was pretty easy for the most part. I did struggle a bit with the wyvern alpha because no one in my party (Hawk, Bethany, Anders, Tallis) could take more than one hit from the beast if it got within range.

Now I've resumed an old mage save game. I'm almost done with Act 2 and will take on the DLC at some point during Act 3. Based on my experience with my rogue, I'm wondering if I should bring Aveline with me so I have someone who can stand up to the wyvern this time.
