Think AreleX is still working stat distribution, but yes, I think Mag/Con with ~20 Dex/Cun and minimal Will for gear.
It's annoying, because I had a great time and zero issues with Dex/Cun, yet numbers point to it being inferior to a pure mage, so I'm torn. I'll just post both and tell people to do what they want, I don't know.

The numbers actually aren't so different actually. I had this huge debate with Jack-Nader about it and maths became involved.....
Basically what I found is that if you include the +crit chance and damage properties of rogue gear, the dps and critical damage between a pure magic glass cannon and a high magic crit-mage are very similar.
At level 12 (the characters level that I was using for my calculations) the pure magic build wins both in dps and critical damage by a slight amount - however, with an upgraded might and upgraded rally factored in, the crit-mage will have a higher dps due to the higher crit chance. This suggests that a crit-mage may actually perform superiorly at higher levels and with better equipment (as the difference between damage scores due to magic will a lesser, proportionately speaking and the difference between mage robes and rogue armour +crit-wise should increase. Note that this could also be wishful thinking on my part haha).
But unless you really want to check all the mathematical gymnastics (I added a copy to my thread) you can safely assume that the builds are very similar damage-wise and it becomes a matter of preference of either seeing consistent damage scores or some lower and some really high ones. (And if we consider an aesthetic approach the rogue-armour wins hands down of course
Once I power-level my mage up a bit more (i'm finally free to do so again!) I'll conduct a few more calcs, because as much as I hate maths, this subject is quite interesting.

At level 22, I currently have on:
Regret (Cowl, +% cold)
Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness (absolute must-have, not negotiable)
Gloves of the Champion (could make a case for the High Dragon Gauntlets
Dwarven Leather Boots (+% atk/crit dmg, don't have Champion Boots yet)mokponobi wrote...

Do you feel like the high crit build is better than the straight mag/con build? I am currently playing a high crit build, only at level 10, my crit chance is about 30%.
If you are still using the high crit build can you tell me your stats by say level 16 or so, I have dex/cun at 20 at the moment, with eq they are about 22/23. I get some very nice crits, especially now that I can use the staff of primal order.
Thanks and let me know what armor or items you like.
All I personally can tell you with confidence is that it's certainly not *weak*, though 'better' or 'worth it' is a different discussion, but I actually noticed consistently faster clears with my crit change/damage build than my pure magic build, though the numbers should say otherwise.
Either way, by Act III, the two roads kind of converge anyways, since there's no good Rogue armor that isn't class-locked, and readily available. Robe of Unblemished Cleanliness and the Ring of the Ferryman will far outstrip anything you can get that's crit-oriented, though I am testing the few leftover Rogue armor items that CAN be viable.

It's good that SOMEONE is doing the math, because I sure as hell am not. Here's a summary of the Dex/Cun build that I posted earlier in the thread.
Umm... you're not saying that want me to do calcs based on your character right? Because in addition to my general hatred for mathemathics (did enough of it back in school) there isn't enough information there to do anything with it.
Anyhow, what I don't get is why you have a dex/cun build when the only rogue item you have equiped are those boots? I would have thought that if you're not equipping any +crit chance/damage gear half the point of the dex/cun build is been wasted and that you might as well go pure magic.. But maybe that's just me. I guess there really isn't much non-rogue specific crit damage gear out there is there? May have to rethink my late-game build.

I have a Dex/Cun build because I ran the entire game with a Dex/Cun build, but in Act III there's simply no point in taking anything over the Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness and the Ring of the Ferryman, which is what I was trying to illustrate. Trust me, I've checked and double-checked, nothing comes close. I kept the Dex/Cun build because I wanted to see how well it would work WITHOUT Rogue armor, and it's still good.
When you get that late in the game, you will have enough of both stats built up (plus the Rune of Valiance and Elixir of Heroism) to still make it viable for use, even without the armor bonuses. I still get crits and they still hit like a freight train.

Haha fair enough. Btw, did you end up ever trying the hex of torment? Or do you just do CC followed by nuking/turning people into chunks (which definately seems quite effective)?
Because if your critical damage is still really high it could be a really really fast way to do massive single target damage. E.g. you could maybe explode a staggered hex of tormented assassin that was close to full health?
Just a thought.
Well good luck figuring out all that high level gear stuff - Means I don't have to think as much when I get there myself haha

1. Drop Gravitic on Elite
2. Brittle Elite for Archer's Lance
3. Brittle Elite and basic attack, does insane damage on crit, focus fire if needed

So should I just get to the minimum for WIL and MAG and the rest in into DEX and CON? (35 MAG for Cold Blooded and 32 for Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness)

Use the Rune of Valiance to satisfy the WIL req for the Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness, don't put in more points than you have to. I suggest using the Glove slot to do it, and putting an Armor rune in the RoUC.
You want to be primarily putting points into MAG, a few in WIL, and a comfortable amount of CON (just like any mage), but the difference is that you're throwing a couple into Dex and Cun along the way.
Also, after a conversation with Jack Nader, it has been decided that it's best to skip over Cold-Blooded and simply save your money to buy the Ring of the Ferryman (Magnus's Wares, Wounded Coast) and the Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness (Black Emporium).

Alright, so spend points into WIL until 25 and then use RoV to get 32. Then equip the RoUC and just do 1:1:1 with DEX, CUN and CON.

As requested, I added a new video, The Mercenary Marathon, from where you meet Charade in Gamlen's Greatest Treasure. I also added an Attribute Allocation section to the guide, with a DEX/CUN build for those of you who want to see some big numbers, and a pure mage build, so I don't get anyone ****ing at me for getting glancing blows a few times. Check them out!

In theory wouldnt hitting those critical against foes that matters ie:assasins should be better than randomly critting 1 out of 10 times.?
I know 6 points in entrophy is a lot to ask but there are worst trees you can sink your points into.

Ditching dex and pump cunning instead to capitalize on Death Hex is not worth it i suppose?

Elites should be dead almost instantly, be it from your Hemorrhage off a Stagger, an Archer's Lance of your Brittle, or simply getting them Brittle and auto-attacking them to death, making Death Hex for PC Hawke incredibly redundant. Watch the very first clip in my Genocide of the Qun video: I kill a Saarebas completely solo simply by getting him Brittle and loading up on crits, no Death Hex needed.
Hell, watch any of my videos, there isn't a single one where an Elite is a problem, because they're dead before they have the chance to BECOME a problem. You'll have everything required to destroy Elites in this build, no worries!

Arelex would you ever consider using crushing Prison or the upgraded version of Crushing Prison. or would you save that for a different kind of Mage Playthrough?
It may find use elsewhere, but in this build, there's too much overlap with Paralyzing Hemorrhage, which should be your go-to Elite killer.

Don't buy cold blooded you say? Isn't that sacrilege for a bloodmage?
Kind of, but you can get slightly lesser generated staves for a fraction of the price. I love Cold-Blooded, but it came down to that, or no Ring of the Ferryman/RoUC. Sacrifices had to be made.
