Okay, so i'm doing one more playthrough now this time with a mage. Had a go at the start with one but then I continued with a warrior. Question is which spec combo seems better. I want to be a Force Mage no doubt about that, they look very fun to play. Which other spec seems good to play as well. I'm leaning towards blood mage but it seems very hypocritical to the story, especially as I will end up with Merrill as a rival again and others in the story.

Force Mage Blood Mage is a lot more fun IMO.

and Paralyzing Hemmorage does a lot more damage vs. STAGGERED targets than upgraded Fist of the Maker.

Heh, I completely ignored the 2nd spec on my mage and concentrated on the base trees. You don't actually HAVE to learn the specialisation skills.

Fist of the Maker is terrible. Should be called paw of the kitten or something suitably pathetic.

Shame you need it for the +100 fortitude skill.

I vote force/blood mage. Blood magic is far more fun than being a healer.

I went with Spirit Healer with Force Mage. I spent most of my time completely locking down the battlefield. You're not exactly going to be nuking a lot (well, you actually can, but I didn't), but seeing a whole pack of guys be completely locked down and done was a hoot.

Fully upgraded Fist of the Maker to exploit Staggers works pretty well, actually. It was one of the few ways I could reliably deal damage. Plus, if you bunch people together already (which you should), you can reliably get 800-1k per individual off of a CCC'd Fist, which is hardly bad considering it's a 10s cooldown.

I went FM/Spirit Healer--no need to drag Anders along (he gets more annoying with each playthrough) and I could completely lock down the battlefield. I did a fair amount of nuking, as well. Pull of the Abyss to clump everyone together, Gravitic Ring to slow everyone down to a crawl, Firestorm and Tempest, and I've done most of the work in clearing the battlefield.

Since I absolutely despise blood mages, I sure wouldn't play one :)

Force/Spirit Healer is a good choice. I also add enough creation to get haste and full spirit magic as well. It's a pretty good combo. Nothing like walking bomb on a bunch of mobs surrounding varric. Body explosions galore :) Much more satisfying than a blood cloud hehe.

I focused on Blood Mage and only took Force Mage for Unshakable. The rest of my points went towards offensive magic... although Gravity Ring and Pull can be very useful, I don't think they're necessary... As far as the story goes, don't even bother with Blood Mage if it will mess up your rp. It's not like anybody ever notices, but technically it's a forbidden spec that "good" mages would not use.

I also want to say that if you aren't playing on Nightmare, Anders is completely over-rated. You can get by on Hard with Greater Healing and a few potions depending on your party. With Fenris, Varric, and Aveline, I never once regretted not taking Spirit Healer or using Anders.

That alone is worth taking Spirit Healer spec :)

Force-healer is kind of cool because you can ditch Anders for a second warrior or whatever suits you.

You could leave Anders behind, or spec him with the Vengeance half and make him a damage dealer. Though my party at the end of that run was 3 mages and the all-mighty Verric. Was still awesome fun.

But fist of the maker could be used every 10 seconds,Hemorrhage not.

Something called Fist of the Maker should pack a much meaner punch than it does.

If it did, it'd be unbalanced.

I whent with primal, elamental, and spiret. the force mage is not all the good agenst demons or dragons but the base tree's work like a charm. i rain fire and lightning down on my enamys. blood mage sucks as it dosnt have the old powers from dAo that made it a powerhouse skill set. this blood magic is weak and dose not give me that edge in battle that I need. and I have anders to heal so not my thing.

Paralyzing Hemorrhage is hands down the most powerful spell in the game if used correctly. Only Walking Bomb come close, but the AoE is much smaller and more difficult to use.

Apart PH, then, a Blood Mage well built can literally cast forever and has immense durability. So, you see, saying that "blood mage sucks" is so wrong that, in comparision, affirming that the sun rotates around the earth would be correct.

However I'm not more impressed by these things, since there are even those in these forums that says that rogues are underpowered in DA2, or that the Reaver specialization sucks. If one can say a thing as that he can certainly also say that Blood Mages' sucks.

Origins didn't have CCCs, so there were a lot of spells that are powerful by themselves. However, Hemo on staggered targets is boss! And that is precisely what I love about DA2, the CCCs and ways to set them up via tactics.

I can also heal myself very quickly either by Grave Robber or Grim Sacrifice, and basically can cast forever. So yes, I do like being a Blood Mage.
