With new info my feelings have slipped and altered again, unfortunately not in the right direction.

Was:
70% Positive
20% Dubious/Sceptical (but not outright negative)
10% Unsure

Now:
50% Positive
20% Dubious/Sceptical (but not outright negative)
20% Unsure
10% Dislike

Basic reasoning is that I don't really like the increased focus on melee combat and the fact that the game is apparently faster and more intense. I don't like the idea that this is becoming more like a fast-paced modern shooter and less like an RPG even more, and I don't think it needs to be "faster and more intense" combat wise. Once again I feel that the game is too focussed on combat and trying to be a shooter rather than being the RPG it should become more like, IMO. I'm getting bad parallels to all the "Shooter! Shooter! Shooter!" nonsense when ME2 first started getting talked about, and the good start to things that I felt the Game Informer artcile began has already devolved into ME3 not quite looking the middle-ground between ME1 and ME2 I was hoping for.

Mostly positive. If Bioware does the following it will be set:

DO NOT relegate squad members to cameos like in ME2
More exploration
Less linear
Epic storyline

And for those of you worried because of the mixed reception of Dragon Age 2 and Arrival, don't worry. No company is perfect, and that also applies to Bioware. Just because they hit a little rough spot doesn't mean we have to lose complete faith in them.

Like most of what I've heard so far, but still cautious.

WIll reevaluate after more story information comes out, and we find out how serious a sequel this is, whether it'll rely too much on "awesome buttons" over "awesome story" and so on.

I feel you, but I'm also pretty optimistic. If they at least try to return to the series' roots, with larger emphasis on the retro sci-fi/synth ambience, grander scale, and haunting atmosphere (although ME3 should rightfully be more about desperation and tragedy imo, otherwise the build-up to the Reaper invasion would seem like a waste of potential), then I'll welcome any upgrades to the combat/action they make.

TBH my biggest gripe with ME2 wasn't with the downgraded RPG elements, or the upgraded combat; it was that the things which made ME1 so damn atmospheric and "in-its-own-world" unique for me were pretty much stripped from ME2. The audio/visual style, the ambient music in hubs, the sense of realism in regards to the universe (including squadmate armor), the focus on Shepard's personal development through missions relating to his past, etc... it just lost its flavor for me.
ME1 was like a mildly dry steak with spectacular seasoning and sauce; ME2 was like a good steak, but with only a few drops of that amazing sauce sprinkled on top (robbing it of that unique flavor). If you see what I'm getting at, I want ME3 to be an expertly-cooked steak, drowing in amazing sauce, and sided with sauteed mushrooms and peppers. So far, it looks like ME3 is going to have a bit more sauce than ME2, but we'll have to wait before we can judge it.

the only negatives i took away from the article was the increased focus on melee combat and shepard rolling in combat. I think that sounds like a terrible idea.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt, because they expressely stated they were reimplementing customization and RPG elements.

But the benefit only goes so far, still no preorder from me, I'll read the threads on the forum the day of release and decide from there. I trusted them and lost $60 on ME2, and I almost made that mistake with DA2 until I played the demo. I have no faith in their ability at this point.

They're doing everything right. The combat is more fluid, more intense, less linear. Customisation has returned without being overly complicated. The atmosphere seems better than ME2's.

@Gatt9 Don't say you've lost faith in their ability, because most people loved ME2, even if it wasn't perfect. Yes, DA2 wasn't well recieved, but don't be too hard on BioWare.

ME2 was one of the reasons why I lost faith in Bioware.  I expected a sequel to ME,  and got something a great deal closer to Gears of War.  This left a very sour taste in my mouth,  because I may have decided differently if I had known they'd made rampant changes to the game.  (Edit:  I shouldn't have to do research to see if a game changed genres,  a sequel directly implies "More of the same genre".)

Further,  I strongly dislike their approach to game development today.  They're taking out portions of the game and selling them as DLC,  they did it with DAO,  ME2,  and DA2.  So they're doing their best to jack the price of a game from $60 to $80 by leaving out parts of the game and forcing you to pay to receive the whole game.

Even if I do buy ME3,  it'll be the last EA game I buy.  I also made the mistake of buying Dead Space 2 for the PC,  locked out of a significant portion of content because I didn't buy the additional DLC that wasn't even available on the PC,  a control scheme that clearly had no effort put into it,  the game was almost unplayable.

EA's burned me too many times.

Might just be the only game that could take the #1 spot of my favorite game...which is hard to do if I don't any connections to the characters or story.

I knew this would happen and I wasn't altogether optimistic to begin with. Honestly, I don't really care since ME2 already ruined the aura of the franchise for me. I will probably still play it but not until it hits the bargain bin. My ardent wish is that ME3 goes the way of DA2 in sales.. I will find a sick, vindictive joy in that.

So far I'm trying to remain cautiously optimistic. gameplay isn't my big concern, but the story. And of course I'm going to try to remain unspoiled prior to release, but I'll try not to over-hype myself. This is a 3 we're talking about after all.

I am curious, so positive, i am going to be careful though, i wasn't that keen on DA2 so.. we will see, but as have been stated, if it's done well then it could be the best one.

If they keep the DA2 team FAR away from the development of ME3, I'd be a happy man.
