The option is there, just not in the obvious form. You can wait it out and the Reapers arrive, the end. You don't need the [push button] or [don't push button] to have an option.

Hell once you think about it Shepard did worse than Saren.
Saren's attack on the Citadel was mostly focused on the presidium meaning minimal destruction and casualties. Let's say maybe 4,000 people died from the main attack with an added 900 from damage, Shepard cleared 300,000 and a Mass Relay in a few seconds. The Citadel was back up in running in no time but that Batarian colony was completely eradicated along with the Alpha Relay.
The council isn't exactly going to be very supportive is all I'm saying

It's going to be a show trial. The Council won't want to ****** of humanity or make their SPECTRE program look flawed, potentially opening the other members to question.

While I agree with you up to a point, I'd still quite like to know what 'proof' anyone would have that Shepard was responsible. (Preferably not seriously contrived).

There wasn't really proof against Saren at first, either, but they still had a short trial.

However, it should be fairly easy in this day and age to find out that 1.) Hackett sent Shepard in after Kenson and 2.) Shepard was the last thing to come out of that relay before it blew.

Shepard goes in, Shepard goes out, stuff explodes.  Even if this weren't fairly commonplace (to the point where it's expected), they'll still want someone to point the finger at.  Who else but the Spectre that came back from the dead to run around with terrorists?

Also, you know Shepard can't wait to start ranting about Reapers again.

EDIT: Having thieves, assassins, mercenaries, terrorists, murderers, and a geth palling around with you doesn't help.

That's not going to happen. Shepard isn't recognized as a galactic hero, even when he is. If that happens in ME3 I will be disappointed. Each race has they're own plans, otherwise they'd be following Shepard without question, and they're not. Shepard is just a guy/gal on a ship full of branded mercenaries and killers drifting is pace doing stuff nobody knows about.

Everybody heard of my shepard , single handed stopped the blitz .
Savior of the council !
First human Spectre .
Romeo Casanova extreme ! slept with everything that was doable
Even excellent in the media ...
Favorite store on the citadel (all of them in zakara ward)

Who can forget Shepard <_<:o

Bunch of politicians are jealous , I would win the run for the president easily . with my shepard charms .
Don´t forget I even have my own Shadow broker if needed , so some black mail stuff coming up .
If really wanted power .

Shepard has become the new Saren, and it was pure genius from BW to do it. Paragon or not, Shepard has everything Saren did and his action would make Saren green with envy.

Again, he is a "HERO" not a "GALACTIC HERO". That title is reserved for ME3.

We also need to remember that Hackett and Anderson aren't the entire Alliance. Alliance brass is going to want Shepard shut down to appease the council, even Councilor Anderson isn't going to be able to hold them back

this is very simple Bioware had difficulty comming up with a suitable bridge for ME3 think ME2 shepard dies and the normandy blows. if the did anything redundant like that again ppl would cry. They need to be able to bridge the ppls character frome ME1- 2 to -3 and still have ppl who never played the game before create a new character and get in the story and the imported characters need the ability to tweek shepards looks and abilitys. ME 3's been in development for quite some time but the release is getting closer and the last months are for tweeks and the cant complete the story without the beginning so the 1st and easiest idea they chose instead of brainstorming a better topic could they have chose a better entry point and excluded the trial yes but at the expense of time and money and the possiblity ppl would like that topic anymore than the trial. ( im against having a trial i think its kinda silly like the comic)

While thats probably a point of it, they seem to be integrating it better into the story than they did with project zombieshep

People ask how anyone is going to get proof seeing how Hackett said that the Batarian only have enough info for a witch hunt. My answer did a renegade response, basically Hackett will sell your ass if need be. The batarians have enough info that the Alliance was involved. The easiest scapegoat they have is Shepard based on the fact that Hackett sent you there, and he can basically pin the blame on you based on the fact you were or still working for Cerberus.

It really doesn't leave for interpretation on that one. So either Hackett sells you out, or you turn yourself in. Either way you are screwed, and that is only on the basis of Specter status. If you weren't on specter status, you were screwed to begin with.

Like others have said, Shepard killed over 300,000 damn people. Even if you are a Spectre, Justicar, Salarian STG, etc, he/she deserves a trial. How we will get out of it is yet to be seen.

I think a lot of people feel the trial is simply over the Arrival events. While that's part of it, all of Shepards actions will come into view. (typical court case will show Shepards character through many choices) this also lets newcomers into the series know what happened.
I for one think it's a great idea. Cerberus is up to something and the Galactic community is looking at Earth. So we use a scapegoat and try Shepard for his crimes. Save face and keep our number 1 hero out of enemy hands. Spectre or not, Shepard is a human and has been at the apex of many questionable events in the galaxy. (Destroying Prothean ruins, Detonating a nuclear device, Gunfights on the Citadel, Work with Cerberus) I could go on but you get my point

Oh come on we all accepted there will be a trial , and really getting out isn´t even a big suprise anymore .
It is what we can say on the trial that is more interesting , and who is our prosecutor ...
Can I dump that one out of the airlock ? .....beh I guess there goes that nice option ...

Ah well I really can´t wait to see if there is a ultimate Renegade and Paragon reply ..
Like on Tali Trial .

^This.  Shepard was knocked out for 2 days.  They had plenty of time to put together some type of proof that Shepard was there.  Even if some of it was fabricated in some way.  Though personally I think at least the beginning of the trial will be "Previously on Mass Effect..."  Which will be fine by me...

Well, I would assume that committing mass genocide, and blowing up a mass relay to stop a threat that nobody but you believes in, you might get kicked out of the Spectres. Image IPB

Umtil the Reaper Fleet shows up directly overhead right during the trial (probably just before they're about to give you a guilty verdict)  and then they're begging for you to save them.... again.

"Ah yes, Reapers..." moment!

My gripe is that Saren was able to kill thousands on Camala and was easily able to blame Anderson, WHO WASN'T PUNISHED.

I don't think Shepard really officially got Spectre status back. I mean it's something only the Council knows about cause it was done in secret. Also didn't Anderson say the Council would deny it anyways if he got into trouble? So the Alliance probably doesn't know or care. Also I could easily see the Council wanting to put Shepard on trial as well. It may even be a joint trial of some sort.

Shepard's always kind of been a dick though. I mean heck look at the intro trailer:

Clicky

And this is exactly what I'm gonna do in ME3. Your planet getting obliterated? Too bad. I'm going to this other planet here to get me some credits/XP. I ain't saving the galaxy til I reach Level 60 again.

Do I think that Shepard could get away with it in the Council's eyes, yes. As a Spectre, You are the first and last line of Defense. You have free reign to do whatever you have to do to complete your mission or Defend the Galaxy. Saren was considered Rogue because he lead the geth to attack Eden Prime for personal reasons in the Council's eyes. To them he had abandoned his duty of protecting the Galaxy.
Shepard on the other is able to say that they did it due to their duty to defend the Galaxy against the Reaper invasion.
I'm more interested in what evidence the Alliance might have. The only proof seems to be Admiral Hackett's word(unless recordings of his intial message and call with shepard were made) that shepard was there on a mission that resulted in the destruction of the system.
I don't believe that the Mass relays keep records of who passes through them and doubt even more that they would send that data to the Citadel(since if the data is on the Relay itself, then that went bye bye along with the Relay)
Now regarding TIM leaking info, I would go along with that if the mission is done before the Sucide mission. If you decide to blow up the base(my Paragon femshep did), I doubt anyone will inform him and EDI isn't likely to give him that data.

Spectre are citadel agent, when Shepard was technicaly acting on behaf of the Alliance and will have a hard time justifying what he did using spectre status considering the official stand of the council is that Reaper don't exist
