I'm tired of all these "Omg this game is focused on earth WTFFFFF". There is so much ignorance flying around with posts like this. Everyone forgets that humanity is what lies at the root of everything awesome about Mass Effect 1 and 2. Think about it...
Mass Effect 1-Humanity's Struggle to prove their value in a growing galatic society
Mass Effect 2-Humanity struggle to perserve and protect their species from an unknown threat
Granted aliens and the unknown are also a large part of what makes Mass Effect so great, but lets not forget that everything is rooted through humanity and thats why we feel such a deep emotional tie to these games.
Earth, stop hating on it.

I'd feel that way if we would have already spent plenty of time on Earth in ME1/2.

Humans are the only race that has been a threat to the reapers. Surgically take out that race, and then mop up the rest of the galaxy. It makes perfect strategic sense. Particularly since, once they hit the ME relays, there is not such thing as fronts or extended supply lines.
Indeed, waiting to take Earth until later and allowing them time to mobilize makes zero sense.

What gets me is how the Reapers are supposedly going to be having a tough time against Earth. It is the most heavily defended of all human planets, of course, and it's the most heavily populated with nearly 12 billion people on it-- twice what we have in the present day. And yet, in the teaser trailer that came out months ago, Big Ben said that a total of 9 million humans were dead after the first week of the Reaper invasion of Earth.
That's miniscule compared to Earth's total population in that time period, and it makes me wonder exactly why the nigh-unstoppable Reaper fleets would have such trouble with Earth.

What makes you think they have trouble. The reapers are extremely careful. Probably only a handful of Reapers are sent to each system, and are slow at they're job, taking time and being careful.
