What gets me is how the Reapers are supposedly going to be having a tough time against Earth. It is the most heavily defended of all human planets, of course, and it's the most heavily populated with nearly 12 billion people on it-- twice what we have in the present day. And yet, in the teaser trailer that came out months ago, Big Ben said that a total of 9 million humans were dead after the first week of the Reaper invasion of Earth.
That's miniscule compared to Earth's total population in that time period, and it makes me wonder exactly why the nigh-unstoppable Reaper fleets would have such trouble with Earth.
What makes you think they have trouble. The reapers are extremely careful. Probably only a handful of Reapers are sent to each system, and are slow at they're job, taking time and being careful.
Earth, stop hating on it.

Or the obvious answer...
They're taking their time and only killing those they have to (military), so that there will be more to gooify into new Reapers.

That's the thing, though. Even one Reaper is enough to wipe out a full Alliance fleet without much trouble. Surely the Allaince military would have been overrun fairly easily?

Sure, but are you telling me that if the Reapers wiped out our Military you wouldn't fight back when husks came knockin' at your door looking for your family? People will resist, not everyone of course, but some will resist.

Husks... won't come knocking. They'll charge like rabid animals. And they're not going to be "looking" for people, they'll be killing indiscriminately. And you're forgetting the Reaper Indoctrination. If they stay in one area too long, droves of humans will likely become Indoctrinated, and thus turn on those that aren't. Force multipliers, my friend.

That is the question indeed. That said you'd be surprised at how inventive the average person can be when pushed to breaking point. How would a husk fare against something as simple as a Molotov cocktail for example?

I think that a molotov cocktail would be utterly useless against Husks. OPlus, with the technology and futuristic education, it wouldn't be molotovs but some kind of makeshift EMP granade that disables a Husk's implants.

It's like Ash said about people and their dogs. You love your dog but if a bear comes to attack you you'll sick your dog on it and run while you love it you'll still sacrifice it.

Yeah I say the cocktail is bust but get a souped up mall bus, put a plow, some chain saws on it, and a propane bomb for good measure and it'll be one bad day for the husks.

By that math(correct me if I'm wrong), it would take 25.6 years for the Reapers to completely wipe out human life on Earth. Shepard has some time, doesn't he/she?
Unless Big Ben was only talking about London/UK alone, in which case, WE ARE SO ****ED.

Too late for that now I'm afraid, they made an entire game about it so we're stuck with it.
Why on earth didn't Bioware simply have the abducted colonists be turned into more advanced versions of husks? (Scions, Praetorians etc) That would have been just as much of a moral dilema, do we keep these husks which we've found a way to control, or do we put them out of their misery?

As for what the Reapers are doing there....it's not humanity per say that's been giving the Reapers "trouble" it's mainly been one man....Commander Shepard(and his crew). I'm personally not a fan of the whole "mushing humans into goo is their goal" concept so part of me is hoping that they're targetting earth to A. Get a load more husks/foot soldiers and B. Targettting earth first purely to p*ss off Shepard because it's his home planet - almost as a "this is what you face for interfering in our plans" sort of thing. We don't know how much truth is in that trailer though, whether the numbers the sniper gives us will ring true in the game - it could be that in the game the actual numbers dead could be significantly more. I can see them splitting into teams really, send a fair few Reapers to earth and the other planets - a combination of them and some of the new husks we've seen should be enough, on paper, for them to destroy these planets...or whatever it is they plan on doing.

I'm tired of all these "Omg this game is focused on earth WTFFFFF". There is so much ignorance flying around with posts like this. Everyone forgets that humanity is what lies at the root of everything awesome about Mass Effect 1 and 2. Think about it...
Mass Effect 1-Humanity's Struggle to prove their value in a growing galatic society
Mass Effect 2-Humanity struggle to perserve and protect their species from an unknown threat
Granted aliens and the unknown are also a large part of what makes Mass Effect so great, but lets not forget that everything is rooted through humanity and thats why we feel such a deep emotional tie to these games.
Earth is not interesting, there's no particularly interesting cultural events to explore or really much to find out. Sure there's about 170 years of history to catch up on- but for other species there's thousands of years of history and culture.
Hell, if you ask me humanity is already being pushed too much into the foreground with ME2- being portrayed as some kind of superiour species.
