You're missing the point, every species is looking out for their own interests. Fair enough I would expect nothing less, it's exactly what I would expect humans to be doing. However their is a difference between human importance and human dominance. One being acknowledging how much of driving force humanity is and what they can acomplish while giving them responsibilities to match. The other being strutting into a room proclaiming that you know best, telling everyone else they are doing it wrong and then saying that you are now the top dog and everyone has to listen to you... because you're human and your special.
Look at this from the councils perspective some hot shot race comes onto the scene with a similar penchant for combat as the Turians while being almost as upbeat as the Salarians. Hasn't really had this technology for all that long, so you have more or less an uplifted species on your hand that hasn't bombed itself back into the stone age yet. And now they are saying how they are special, know how to do things right and its their time to shine... give me a break. You're damn ****ing right I woudn't let them near the driver seat of the Bugati Veyron
Furthermore I don't know about anyone else here but its not so much Earth being attacked that bugs me its the importance placed on Earth. I mean it is no different from any other homeworld for any other species out there, but now the fate of the galaxy hinges on Earths survival because humans are special and Earth is the centre of the universe. Thats like saying Earths survival hinges on the survival of North America and without it, everything will degenerate into some sort of Mad Max scenario.
Ignoring logical reasons why the universe doesn't revolve around Earth. From a meer storytelling standpoint it is cliche and overdone and not to mention boring plot device. I've saved Earth soo many times it has lost all meaning; our cities in flames no longer provoke any reaction from me, our paradises turned into alien hell scapes don't even phase me in the slightest. Furthermore from the E.A. synopsis basically reads like this; the always charismatic Shepard, ventures the galaxy to convince the various alien homeworlds to mount one final effort to retake Earth from the sinister Reaper menace. I'm sorry but that just seems like bad writing, and while I won't render final judgement until it out, I can safetly say that if that is the direction the plot takes then bad writing won't even begin to cover it; suffice is to say I have faith that Bioware can make a much better story than that, infact I know they can.
I mean the idea that Shepard just meanders through the galaxy telling aliens that they have to gather their fleets which are almost certainly protecting their homeworlds and convince them that they need to help retake our homeworld because somehow saving Earth = the galaxies salvation, is just so eh. I can't even describe how revolting the ME story would become if that was the direction it took.
It was one trailer, and announced as the
starting point in the game. It's too soon to say that the game will revolve around saving
Earth. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/blushing.png[/smilie]
All the homeworlds are endangered and will need help, not just ours. I also don't think
every Reaper is at Earth, just that it is under attack and a lot of Reapers are there. It's likely we'll engage other Reapers and their minions on other planets, lessening their burden and enabling them to contribute to the galactic defense.
Of course, with how little we know, I admit even that ^ is just ideas and '
could be's.
But, even if it
was all focused around Earth then... yes, defeating them there would save the Galaxy. Defeating them
anywhere would save the Galaxy, might as well defeat them where they're at. That doesn't automatically make Earth 'special'.
One could speculate that Earth was 'special' because the Reapers chose that as a first strike (if that's even the case) when they could have chosen anywhere else... but I think it's more like
Shepard is special to them, and Shepard happens to be human and on Earth. If Shepard had been a Turian, Palaven likely would have been struck first.
It wasn't our special genetic code, or our special garden world, or our special personalities... no, Earth is going to suffer because an individual named Shepard pissed off the Reapers.
