Has anyone considered that Mr Laidlaw has contractual obligations to fulfill? Regardless of what he may personally think about the game, if he has a big clause saying that he won't denigrate any BW/EA product in the contract, then these sort of interviews may be expected.

Let's see what will happen with DA3. Though I do like some changes Mr. Laidlaw mentioned in those interviews, the major problem with DA2 is the removal of the elements that made DAO such a great game. I think they should reconsider the production cycle for later games in this franchise, balancing the good old game mechanics and the 'evolution'. Always the compromise between fans and devs is the most important.

Mike Laidlaw is never wrong because, Mike Laidlaw say's that it is so. He has a lot of money he can point to as supportive evidence for this.

So, what do you want here? The guy to publicly admit the game is flawed and bash his own company? That probably wouldn't make the guys in the marketing department - not to mention his superiors in EA - very happy.

At any rate, I liked the game, I liked the way it was handled, and I hope his defense of the product will encourage more people to experience it. Your outrage and frustration only speak for a portion of the community.

Well, you going around the negative DA2 threads & basically repeating the same self righteous crap over & over again isn't really new either.

All I know is I blindly worshipped at the altar of BioWare prior to DA2. I never said 'BioWare' without also saying 'Gods of Gaming' or 'my Canadian Overlords' or commenting in joke about lighting the candles on my BioWare Altar. Yes, I'm serious. I was a blind fangirl through and through. I didn't expect every game they ever made to be a Perfect 10, but I did expect to thoroughly enjoy every one. I KNEW I would enjoy whatever they made. After all, they had never let me down before.

They did with DA2, though. And to see Laidlaw profess its perfection without acknowledging that it might even have the slightest actual flaws punches me in the gut, hard.

I guess nothing lasts forever. I can't say I'll never love a BioWare game again, I can only say that... for the first time... I will not be blindly assuming a BioWare game will be good before it's released. I will no longer be pre-ordering. I will no longer be telling my friends 'of course it's going to be great'. I can speak for no one but myself, of course. And, of course, many will read this and think how ridiculous I'm being.

Maybe I am being ridiculous. But I trusted BioWare, and I don't trust them any longer, especially- and primarily due to- seeing the responses coming about certain fan reactions to DA2.

I wouldn't talk poorly about a game PUBLICALLY I was a part of so soon after release when sales can still be affected. What do you expect djwyattwood?

right now, i dont expect any sort of criticism until maybe 9 to 12 months down the road.

This.
People expect Laidlaw to say "OK, the game is crap, I failed, now go tell your friends not to buy it", which is just totally unrealistic from a business standpoint.
People need to get over themselves a bit, except that sometimes games are going to be made that they don't like.
Dragon Age 2 is not such a big failure as some claim. It is still in the top 20 in the UK at least.
I'm not saying DA2 is without flaw, of course it has many flaws. Show me one game that has no flaws.

So you're basing your opinion of BioWare on what others are saying instead of just playing the game and forming your own opinion?
It is this kind of attitude that is fuelling the hate and blowing things way out of proportion!

No. I believe my hate stems from having played the game myself, and not by listening to other peoples opinions.

As some others have said, no one will be bashing his or her company's game during the main sellthrough period. The fact that Mike actually says "my opinion" and "personally" so often may be strategic - it makes it easier for him to withdraw from the helm of the DA franchise afterwards if sales have failed to meet expectations and the direction has to be changed. He can still say "that was MY vision of the game, I like the changes and I'm sticking to it, now that I'm gone expect something different for DA3". That would bring back a lot of irate fans who made Laidlaw the scapegoat (though he actually may be responsible for all the changes, based on the making-of, if he was not just the spokesman of higher-up decisions).

Because you assumed that is why most people share the same opinion about this game. That they hang out on these forums and go "hey fellas, let's hate on this game so badly that it will affect other peoples view on this game"

When in fact, some people who own and played this game don't prowl BSN. And their opinion of it is pretty much "why would they release this unpolished, tedious, dumbed down POS?!"

There is difference between thinking someone is wrong, because you think it could have be done other ways (better). Then there is different seeing negative threads and thinking that they are "ALL" correct as right, because they support your personal option.

My point is that there is very nice feedback in this forum and some stuff could be done better in my opinion. Then there is also alot of whining as why can't this be like I like it. How ever, thinking that someone else is wrong.. mm.. when so much is just based what person likes.

You guys should never put your trust in a corporation. Many of you also have incredibly high expectations and that can make it impossible to enjoy anything on its own merit.

I think you guys just like games made by young, up and coming developers with nothing to lose, like Bioware was on Baldur's Gate. Those types of developers also do not have to deal with the burden of expectation.

I vehemently disagree with the idea of making games for fans and pandering to fan service. "Fans" are not a monolithic entity with a single, rational voice. For every person that disliked the voiced protagonist in DA2 there were just as many that liked it.

Lady Hawke's voice acting was one of the few bright spots in this game, IMO.

Is that unreasonable?

Until DA 3 marketing campaign comes, yes it is. When DA 3 marketing starts, DA 2 bashing by developers will begin. That's what happened to DA:O, anyway.

I agree.

It is unresonable think that company would BASH they own new product while it's new and still marketed. After time has past, then they can judge they own product openly. People should really learn how business works and not make childish assumptions.
