So usually companion gifts give more of whatever approval type you already have with a companion. As I understand it, this is the intended behaviour. However, giving Anders the Tevinter Chantry Amulet is giving me +15 Friendship, even though I've got seventy Rivalry. Hawke is in a romance with him, if that makes any difference, but according to the wiki it always gives Friendship no matter what path the player is on or what dialogue options are chosen.
If the amulet is intended to work differently to the other companion gifts I guess I just won't give it to him, but it seems more like a bug to me. Just looking for confirmation so I can go edit his approval rating with a clean conscience.

Bug. Should be fixed in the next patch. (Or at least it's in the patch to be looked at notes.)

Same thing happened to me. I had almost maxed his rivalry, when suddenly I saw +15 frienship on the left corner of my screen...

Are you running patch 1.02? Isabela's Rivaini Talisman had the same problem, but it was fixed in 1.02.
