So exactly how many re-used maps were in DA2?

I know it's a pathetically low amount, and that most were re-used, but I am just wondering about the exact number of maps. I am excluding unique areas like Hawke's house, Viscount's office, Merrill's house, Chantry etc.

Off the top of my head, I can count.

Main Areas: 9

High Town
Low Town
Dark Town
Gallows
Docks
Sundermount
Deep Roads
Wounded Coast
Bone Pit

Repeated Areas: 12

Generic Cave
Sebastian's Quest Cave (etc, used for Forbidden Knowledge)
Foundry
Docks (etc, Finder's Keepers)
Dark Town Dungeon Type 1 (etc, final part of Enemies among us)
Dark Town Dungeon Type 2 (etc, Disused Passage in Docks night)
Back Alley (etc, several of the quests to kill gang leaders at night)
Wounded Coast Retreat
Area outside cave (etc, final part of Shepharding Wolves)
"Deep Roads" dungeon (etc, final part of Forbidden Knowledge)
Hightown Mansion 1 (etc, Fenris's home)
Hightown Mansion 2 (etc, finding Gascard DePuis in Prime Suspect)

So...that's about it. Anyone else got any more maps to add to the list? And anyone kind enough to compile a list of maps for DAO or DAA?

What's your point exactly? Everyone knows the maps have been re-used. It's been discussed to death. EVERYONE knows about this.
I really don't think there is any need to keep hammering on about this.

Actually The Fade sequence is later re-used as the Templar HQ.

Fieryeel: rivalry (+5)

I was simply wondering about it, and wanted to know the true number.

True, but I left that out as it was a scene that made sense.

The fact that that they used the same 'rock door' for both 'openable doors' AND 'blocked doors' to seal off areas in the generic cave that you visit a zillion times, and then not even bother to remove the closed off areas from the minimap is truly an entire level beyond fail.

In before Dubya75 : It can't be said enough. For shame !

The final location of Merril's quest, that undead cave thingie, it was present in a Forbidden Knowledge quest and Sebastian's personal mission (which was a complete map but that altar part was in it).

Thanks. I didn't realised the maps were the same.

That was the only recycled map I didn't notice, as wellImage IPB. Probably because it was "artfully" done...

Archdemon bite you in the ass there, bud? Or did a desire demon leave you hanging? No need to get so tempy either way.

It's a little sad how many reused maps there are, especially since you were restricted to just the city of Kirkwall.

Also, Varric's brother has a Hightown mansion which is the typical, generic Hightown mansion map.

Wonder whos idea the giant concrete blocks and not altering the mini map was. If that was artful I'd hate to see what they call a rush job.

I know it's been said a million times, but I'll say it again:

I cannot believe someone "okayed" this. I cannot believe Bioware, after all these years, would treat their audience like they're 8-year olds.

I just wish someone would explain that one cave with the eternal campfire. That thing burned for 7 years.

Can anyone explain why the Party Camp in DAO looked the very same, no matter if I left Denerim, the Brecilian Forest or Orzammar?

Yeah, thought so.

I do not like the re-used enviroments much. But that dead horse has been beaten more than Izzy's delightful ass. XD

Persephone, one party camp does not carry the same weight as a dungeon/sewer/warehouse/house reused ad infinitum. I do understand that you absolutely love DA 2, but why bash DA:O simply to emphasize that? I have seen you annoyed by people who bash DA 2 by using DA:O as the shining example. Doing it the other way around is just as bad.

The party camp received life through the characters and their interaction, even if they never moved from their appointed spot. Yes, DA:O did reuse areas, but in such a way that it didn't push the player's nose into it with full force.

The OP wishes to know exactly how many areas were identical. I am curious myself. Because after visiting them one after the other, they tend to run together in my mind. She/he is not complaining about them per se, she/he wishes to know the numerical answer.

It's simply just as illogical. Yet nobody cared.

It doesn't carry much weight with me to begin with, but then, I am still all for more varied level design.

No. Simply stating that both games had their fair share of flaws. Long time overdue too.

Wilderness looks pretty much the same especially at night. Putting that on the same level as having corpses on the floor for years without them being cleaned up or rotting, well that's just not even comparable.
