One of my characters reached level 27 without using any cheats or glitch exploits.  Besides doing as many side quests as possible, I also:

1.  Had Aveline equip the Lion of Orlais for a large chunk of the campaign.
2.  Had Hawke equip the Fallen Star.
3.  Drank the Elixir of Heroism potion.

I've aways felt I'm a completionist but some people really take it to an extreme, I think I normally finish at about level 25, and NEVER seem able to get as much gold as people say you can.

I'm starting a Nightmare mare playthrough and will need to try for Ring of Ferryman and Robes of Cleanliness, ughhhh.

The best way to make gold is to equip Runes of Fortune on all of your companions' armor.  The first one you get (from the Black Emporium) should be equipped on Varric as early as you can in Act 1.  Once you have all of your companions equipped with Runes of Fortune in Act 2, you will really notice the increase in currency you recieve, not only from the corpses you loot, but especially from certain treasure piles/chests.

With the new DLC lvl 27 is certainly attainable. I managed to get to lvl 27 bfor the dlc anyaways (i did every single quest as in litterally checked them off from a list) and found every chest, every codex entry. I made it just barely. WIth the new DLC, lvl 28 or MAYBE 29 should b attainable.

Someone mentioned once that 27.5 was the cap before the DLC without using any cheats. If so you'd need 41,500 to reach 29. I was able to get 41,000 without any +xp gear, so it definitely seems possible!
