So, if I never recruit Sebastian...

Gotta admit it, I'm not crazy about Sebastian. He's the third most handsome human in the game, his voice is made of sex, and he's got a few funny banters where he plays the straight line to others' humor, but he just doesn't do it for me. He has less of a sense of humor than Fenris and is selfish to the point of absurdity. His endgame hysterics detract from the tragedy of the Act 3 surprise, at least in my opinion.

If I ever start another DA2 game, I will uninstall the DLC, but for this playthrough, I have had to content myself with ignoring his quests and never actually recruiting him into the party.

Since he has never been in the party, will he still appear in the Act 3 Chantry scene? Theoretically, he would still be in the Chantry at the time. Or will he show up outside anyway to make selfish demands of my PC?

Probably not... but I have no idea. I know that if you never talk to Isabela, Varric and Cassandra's dialogue changes in some cutscenes. So I'm guessing that doing his quests will trigger his endgame content. Maybe.

Hmm, the bit about Isabela gives me hope. I would much rather avoid having Sebastian show up.

If it helps, when the character selection stage opens, he isn't on it.

He does not appear. First time I played the game I didn't have that DLC, and I never saw him at all.

I can echo that he doesn't show up at the end if you don't recruit him, even if you have the DLC.

If you at any time recruited him, he will be in the last scene. If you don't recruit him at all, and don't do his quests (which are optional I believe), then he won't appear at the end.

Omg I totally agree! Sebastion is such eye candy that I bought the DLC straightaway, but he is such a selfish and self absorbed person who totally annoys me that I absolutely wish I had never bought him now! For a guy so obsessed with the chantry and the Maker he doesnt hesitate to call for the blood of his enemies and Anders, all the while agonising about where his true place is. 'Should I be a privelged and sheltered prince or should I be a priveleged and sheltered Chantry boy? Oh woe is me, my life is so hard!'

Oh my gosh his pretty boy looks soon get tiresome indeed. Sebastion is my least favourite character!

I find him quite interesting. He's so far the only companion ever who represents the usual mindset of people living in Thedas. Only Aveline comes close. I also never found him selfish or hypocritical - well, not more than anyone else.

Did I understand that right? He doesn't appear at all if you didn't recruit him? Missed opportunity. :-/

He's a hypocrite for sure, but to be fair, just about all of the companions are. Anders (who I adore) condemns blood mages and templars, but he's willing to kill innocents to accomplish his goals. Fenris abhors slavery, but he's willing to commit mages to the Gallows on account of abuses he suffered at the hands of others. Merrill thinks Anders was foolish to consort with a spirit, but she's doing the same damn thing.

Really, this is a typical human reaction. We tend to think we're stronger than everyone else, that we'll succeed on account of our inner strength while those around us fail because of inner weaknesses. And if we fail, then it's because of circumstances beyond our control. We're almost natural hypocrites. It's also refreshing to see characters with a strong mix of flaws and virtues in these games. You can't accuse them of being shallow, anyway.

I don't mind Sebastian, but he does take over the act 3 scene to an annoying extent

Can you really fault him? Its not like Hawke didn't let his rage be known during Act 2 when faced with something similar.

Also I love him for saying the one sensible thing of that sequence: "We have the person responsible right here."
About the only person present whom I was on the same page with.

I say this with him being one of my least favorites on the team. Though completely worth taking around to hear the jokes about his armor.

I don't fault his reaction, but I don't like the way everything comes to a halt as he's saying how wonderful Elthina is, then pauses for a bit, then stands up slowly, then starts praying.  It messes up the pacing of a dramatic scene.

Hmm. I thought it added to the scene, not took away from it. But I can see how that's not everyone's thing. What took away from the scene to me was being forced into the whole Mage/Templar choice before dealing with Anders.

Sebastian was definitely my least favorite party member. But he's no more hypocritical than Fenris or Anders. Isabela, Merrill, Varric, and to a lesser extent, Aveline, are the ones who don't go out of their way to condemn or attack other people. The guys*, though... just ugh. All of them are pricks.

*Varric is not a "guy." He's a dwarf-shaped awesoming ram.

I actually think Sebastian adds to the finale of Act 3 more than he takes away. If it were not for him I could care less about Elthina and the Chantry. Not that I care that much for the Chantry to begin with, he does round out the story. He's got some good lines of dialog and interacts with the others well enough, although he only seems to really get along with Fenris.

Sadly he's just a redundant character. Would have been more useful as a Warrior or Mage. Interesting that you can leave him behind but his quests drop great items, especially if you're a rogue.

The average person in Thedas has the mindset of a spoiled prince?

Sebastian is a seriously disturbed individual. Otherwise how would he have managed disgracing his family with his drinking and WOMANIZING by the age of 13...

But he's so good-looking, and I watched Children of Dune where his VA has a major role, so I'm ready to forgive him most anything.

I never said that the other characters weren't hypocrites. Every character in the game is, to one extent or another. It's just that other characters in the game have qualities which offset their flaws. Sebastian has none.

ishmaeltheforsaken, all of the characters in the game have their faults, even the girls. Yes, the guys, with the exception of Varric, are opinionated jerks. Anders and Fenris have virtues to balance their vices. Sebastian, not so much. Isabela did not bother me as much as I thought she would, but she is still selfish, fickle, and a bit insensitive toward others. She's a b****, but she's human. Merrill is naiive and stupid, but she is adorable. Aveline is great, but she says some profoundly insensitive things and she's stubborn as all get out. In other words, Sebastian is the only irredeemable ******.

The average person of the parts of Thedas we know is Andrastian.
They are also used to all kinds of cruelties in their lifes and comfortable with the concept of vigilantism. (something that is giving Aveline a headache at times) I believe public executions are quite the event on a boring day. (bring your family!)

Which ones? I can't think of anything special.

They are romancable when Sebastian is not (really). But I doubt that's what you wanted to say.

Anders and Fenris are pretty irredeemable. Anders moreso than Fenris.

So what ever happens to Sebs twin brother Seneshal Bran in the end? In my 1st play through I thought he was the guy that got neck snapped by the Qunari after the beheading of the Viscount but I'm pretty sure I was mistaken.

Only using him on my 3rd playthrought for the Awards.... Had to replace my Lockpicker xD

The worst thing is you can't Kill him at the end game :|
Even tho He threatens to come back and wipe you out...
If this game Had Choices I'd hack his head off right there.

I thought that described anyone on the team apart from Aveline and Varric.
