Now, I think this would be an awesome element to add to enhance CQC combat in ME3, both for enemies and for players. Lots of games have this and I think it could be an incredibly enhancing experience.

I would further propose an evolution for Infiltrators (passive one perhaps or for Cloak) that would further enhance flanking damage bonuses. This would make the CQC Infiltrator even more rewarding in its playstyle, though even higher risk as well, assuming enemy AI is greatly improved.

What say ye Lords of ME?

I think locational damage and close quarters damage increases are enough. Enemies whip around too quickly to make flanking damage all that reliable.

If nothing else than to give infiltrators unique edge over other classes it's good, would prefer a higher chance to stagger an enemy when attacked from behind even with weapons such as SMGs.

I did read something about different effects when shooting at different armor parts.

Whilst that is nice, I think flanking should definitely be in as well.

Flanking bonus is nice in tactical strategies, but here? Definitely NOT damage bonus I hope. Maybe if AI was very good (yeah, right), they could panic or something. Other than that, I can't imagine any flanking bonus.

If you flank you get +2 to hit and can perform sneak attacks on the flanked enemy.

Honestly having an open line of fire without him being able to duck behind cover is enough, add in if they reposition they are not shooting at you and I'm fine with it as is.

I don't really think an actual programmed damage bonus is needed. Flanking already does in ME2 pretty much of what it does in real life: splits enemy fire, opens up enemy positions, etc.

As much as I'd love to see some sort of variant on the sneak attack from D&D, I'd have to agree with this.  No damage bonus would be needed, as the enemies are going to die fast enough.

You could give the infiltrator a massive melee damage boost when striking under cloak.

Agreed, shot in the back of the head or shot in the front...it really shouldn’t make a difference in terms of damage in a gun fight. Flanking is already very useful for getting enemies out of cover. A damage bonus is unnecessary. I still think they need to extend the range for squad commands tho.

Yes, definitely, now that they've said they're expanding the size and complexity of battles in ME3.

I like the idea of a greater chance to stagger opponents when attacking from behind. Something that indicates that you've managed to scare/surprise your enemy, and not necessarily dealt more damage. If the enemy's well-armored, a shot from behind wouldn't have to do more damage.

I think flanking is useless against 'normal' enemies - but it could improve fighting heavily armored enemies. Armor has been and still is used to protect vital parts (tanks always have thicker / stronger armor at the front since that's the most exposed side when in combat - for example). A lot of armored ME2 enemies (Krogan, LOKI, YMIR, Klixen, husks etc) use simple "move directly towards Shep & Co"- tactics. Moving towards enemies will expose the front (not the back), only a fool would make armor at the rear equally strong compared to the front.

Flanking damage could be a nice addition against certain enemies, but first BW has to design levels and (squad) AI behavior that allows flanking in the first place.

We could go the old Halo 1 route ... if you "sneak up" behind an enemy that doesn't see you one silent melee kills him without alerting his buddies the same way a gunshot would.

In terms of other flanking damage I'm not sure if I'd go much further than that.  Enemies defenses fall quickly enough anyway without needing additional bonuses.

Against shields & barriers I'm not sure if there should be a flanking bonus anyway as a shield/barrier may well be configured to give 360 degree protection.
