I don't know if anyone else has noticed or if this is lingering effects from the server outtage/ changes made since the outtage; but reports of difficulty logging in, staying logged in, downloading DLC (downloads stuck at 0%), extremely slow downloads of standalone DLC from the site and DLC de-authorization have been breeding like bunnies across both the DAO and DA2 forums in both PC and Xbox sub-forums.
*snip*
I confessed I haven't noticed this... could you provide some example links next time you run across them? I'd be interested in seeing if there's a pattern.
Thanks,

Since that was almost exactly when I had last done a fresh install of the UE (doing a complete un-install of my previous "hybrid" one first) I thought that the fact that I now have to log-in to the EA serves EVERY SINGLE TIME I start the game, (even though the "Stay logged-in" box is ticked) when I'd never had that issue before in 18 months of playing, was due to something at my end. Now, I'm not so sure...

Are you using EADM? This is a known issue with EADM... it does not install the game's CD Key in the proper Windows registry location. You can check by going to the launcher screen and selecting Configure > Game. The CD should appear on that screen... if it does not, you've got the EADM bug.
There is a hotfix for this. The link is in the DAO Test Group, which you've already joined. Look for Luke Barrett's first post in the CDKey Hotfix discussion.
EDIT: Should also mention that some Impulse users also experience this problem. I don't know if the hotfix works for them... but it is possible to manually edit the Windows Registry... there's a link in the Solutions Roundup for Impulse users.

I don't know if there might be a connection but (as sami jo mentioned) I've had the same thing happen with Mass Effect 2 this week when I've never had issues before - does sound like there's a server problem on EA's side.Thandal NLyman wrote...

Thx, RI, but I don't have an EADM or Steam install. Guess I'm just a "retail disc" kinda' guy. In fact, ME2 is the only EADM install I've ever done, and that was because it was almost free at the time.RaenImrahl wrote...

Are you using EADM?
(Little did I know it would be totally free with my DA2 purchase two months later!
Interestingly, the config screen shows my UE Key for DA:O, but my original CD-Key for DA:A. Works though! But I still have to enter my EA account password every single time I start the game...

I'll see if any of them have something similar to my "You are not logged-in" problem. Which, (for those just coming to this topic) was new behaviour in the past couple of weeks with my complete (retail disc) re-installation of the UE.
You're a
Thx!
[Edit after reading through topics]
Others with same problem, (maybe dated to the "Great Authentication Server Outage of 2011"
but no solution.

We're expecting the 1.05 beta to begin in earnest today or tomorrow - sorry for the delay but we caught a last-minute issue that also explains why some Ultimate users who attempt to re-apply the 1.04 patch (which is already included in Ultimate) are suddenly informed that they need to re-install the game. We made some course corrections and, thankfully, that situation will not be recurring with 1.05.
We're doing a final pass of internal testing just to make sure that the beta isn't unleashing any new evils upon the world and then we'll roll it out to the beta group so we can see how it behaves in the wild and make any further adjustments there.
Thanks,
Rob
We unfortunately needed to divert resources away from this yesterdayto assist with the DA2 PC patch launch and today to address a critical failure with one of our internal build processes. There's a slim chance it might still go out to the beta group today but, if we don't have it ready by 1pm Edmonton time, I'm going to push it Monday.
Sorry for continuing to miss the date on this, everyone. This is why, under normal circumstances, we tend to avoid discussion of dates until we're 100% certain. These are not normal circumstances, however, so I'll continue to be as transparent as possible, even when it means disappointments such as these.
Thanks for your continued patience,
Rob

I like dates, even if they have to change. You explained why the date change and let us know when you might be able to get it out. To me this is better then Soon, or coming to you shortly etc.

Scratch that - we've decided to proceed with the beta launch today with a known caveat. More info is available in the beta group for those of you taking part.
Thanks again and enjoy your weekend,

In my experience most industries don't accept situations like this, because they know customers (and in some cases the law) don't accept the apparantly poor QA/QC that seems to exist.
Now many of us know that gaming is 'different', but in many cases this is not a good enough excuse. My personal favourite example for this franchise is a patch that broke a basic core game mechanic (Stealing) and was allowed through.
It is my feeling that Dragon Age could have been one of the all-time greats like Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment and Neverwinter Nights (for differing reasons); but the various now well documented issues reduce it to something simply 'good'. Do we continue to put up with it (I don't)? Has it hurt further DLC sales (I havn't bought any since Awakenings came out)? I don't know. But after approximately a year and a half I think the game is barely in the state it should have been at release, authentication issues notwithstanding.

It's a shame that year after premiere DA:A game-breaking bugs are still not fixed - and there isn't even any info if there are any plans to do it. Same goes with some of the DA:O bugs. Major letdown.
Well, they are working with game-breaking bugs right now... I postivie that Luke, Rob and the rest are also working on DA III now (which they can't talk about and/or confirm/deny
DLC activation takes priorty, as those users paid extra for the game experience.
