I have extremely bad clipping issues during the second half of the mage beginning, the cave for the tribe elf beginning, and the temple before u reach the dragon during the quest for the urn. I am unable to see 99% of the enemies. I can walk through the walls to the ending of the level but am unable to seen the objective or click on the doors allowing me access to the following area. :/ I have played DA:O before from the C.D. and had no such issues, but after downloading the DA:O UE, I am finding the major map clipping. Really annoying... Just ask and I'll put up screen shots. :) ty

You are in the wrong thread. You need one of your own and you need to follow the directions that start with "Read First".

Rob & Team,

Thanks for your work & dedication. Whether the patch works for me or not it's important to see BioWare making such an effort.

RE: patch effectiveness for me, I will check it out and update you with the status.

EDIT: Patch installed, and I seem to have traded a major problem out for a minor one.  Authorization issues now seem to be a thing of the past, and for this I am grateful.  However, area load times have increased dramatically.

If you get a chance it'd really help to note down your loadtime problems over in the data gathering thread Rob set up :)

Just to be clear - the "community fixit thread" you are all referring to... is it this one?

DA:O Solutions Round-up: June 2011 Edition

Sorry if I missed it - I did quickly scan through all 16 pages, though.   :innocent:

No, the solutions round-up is a wonderful set of links to the fixes for known technical problems compiled by Raen. The fix-it thread is a list of existing mods to fix known game bugs. Both threads are pinned to the top of this forum.

Ah, I see. I got to this thread via Google, so I didn't notice the sticky on the way here.

Thanks!

The last page alone of this thread spans 27 days and contains no information (from Bioware staff) regarding the status of the patch or future patch plans. How long will this patch be in public beta? Or more precisely, how long will Bioware collect data on the slowdowns that have been reported before attempting a fix?

They have already been attempting fixes. As Rob mentioned in one of the patch threads, the private beta group has been testing variations on the beta patch to try to track the problem down and they were collecting data from that same group on the version that went into public beta for several weeks before releasing it to the public to try to get more data on what the problem could be.  If the issue was something obvious, the full patch would have been out months ago.

I agree that more communication would be lovely, but please don't assume that just because no one has updated this thread that nothing is being done.

As Sami Jo says the test group (and Bioware staff) are still working through the patch trying to find the problems - everyone's trying to be as through as possible so that the final patch, when released, causes no other issues. Unfortunately that can take time, but it is being worked on.

Just so you know we're alive: we've been actively pursuing this and it's very elusive. I'll be contacting people this week for some additional log files and config tool reports. Apologies for the radio silence, I typically try to keep everyone updated but there hasn't really been much to say.

Rest assured we are trying to get this resolved as soon as possible.

My point is this: a lot of time is going by with no visible progress. I respect that this is a troublesome problem that is hard to nail down, but I can't help but think of all the OTHER issues that have been reported that could be getting fixed during this void. I'm not part of the beta group, and I don't know how much time is being spent on tracking down this issue at Bioware, but I have to wonder if Bioware's time might be better spent fixing the multitude of other issues while they wait for more information. Forgive me, but I feel the need to keep poking Bioware for results. Silence doesn't help alleviate this compulsion.

While I empathize with you, I understand why they are focusing on the DLC issue. The vast majority of PC tech issues in this forum are DLC authorization issues. I doubt they planned to divert any resources to DAO after DA2 came out. I would love patches to fix all the bugs as much as anyone. I suspect the devs themselves would love that as well. I doubt they have much say on the issue. I'd suggest complaining where it counts to EA and try to help the devs who are doing what they can here.

Hopefully this does not  fall upon deft ears since the game has been out for quite a while, but my question is why can i still enter the mountain top area in the ruined temple and gain 750 experience every single time i do it!  I am seeing so many of the usual data/crash/server problems which are common for pc games on here, yet still one of the most rediculous glitches i've ever seen still works, Its really more of a huge fail than a glitch since i've updated to every new patch and thats never adressed.  So could someone tell me if it has been delt with somewhere along the way or if its just that hard to fix, just walking through a door.. come on man!  Why even have achievements, statistics and character profiles online if people can bug level all their characters in DAO if they wanted too.  I'd like a mod to respond and not some random hero telling me just don't walk through the door, unless of course its been fixed.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but with a stack of critical and potentially game breaking bugs a mile high (there are well over 100 discrete dialogue/plot flag/epilogue slide fixes in the ZDF mod alone and it doesn't come close to fixing everything), I rather hope a potential XP exploit in a single player game isn't at the top of their to-do list. It's not as if it is all that difficult to come close to the level cap without using a single exploit or mod.

BTW, the mods are just volunteers like all of us "random heroes".

Right now the developers are working on fixes centered around DLC authorization and, as a byproduct, slowdowns in-game.  It is very unlikely that other bugs, especially ones that don't directly impact the plot, are going to be addressed in an official patch.  If there is a user-created bug-fix for this, then it is possible that it could one day be included in an "official unofficial" compilation of minor fixes.

While there seem to be many that are eager to defend Bioware for their current efforts (on issues that are completely unrelated to bug fixes of this sort), the simple fact is that this developer is unable or unwilling to address bugs of this nature.  That they have not done so until now makes it all the more unlikely that they will do so in the future.  Issues like this are day-one bugs that have been present in the game since the November 2009 release.  Other issues introduced through 1.03/Awakening updates (i.e. regressions) also remain unaddressed.  Any serious developer can tell you that regressions generally receive the highest priority for being fixed as they represent a black mark on the developer's record.  As Bioware has made no visible effort at addressing even these issues (of which many have been reported), holding out hope for a Bioware patch to fix any of these long-standing issues is probably not recommended.
That is not to say that many "deft" ears are not eager to respond with encouraging words of Bioware's current efforts (as ineffective as they appear to be with regards to the current patch effort) or alternative solutions made available by the community.  If your intent is to be heard by Bioware developers and staff that can actually do something about this situation, I suspect that your pleas will in fact fall upon "deaf" ears.

For anyone wondering what's going on:

Luke Barrett wrote...

We are diligently working on finding a solution to this issue. Unfortunately we have very limited information due to the small sample of users not only play DAO but that are also actively posting on BSN. Currently we're trying a new tactic as to figuring out the exact cause of the issue - assuming it works out we'll have a live version as soon as possible.

Thanks for the patience and I apologize for the radio silence.

Ummmm... Did you mean to post this in the XBox or PS3 forums? (This is the PC  Tech Support area.)

Bug! Apparently there is a problem where this quest doesn't trigger. A
possible reason for this is that if you didn't import an Awakening saved
game with Nathanial "in your party" at the end, then he is considered
dead even if he survived Vigils Keep. There is a way to work around this
bug on the PC (see below bugs for details). There is no patch yet for
the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Again, after waiting for months, neither the most crucial technical bugs (crashes) nor the crucial import issues ( ^ ) are fixed for DAO. Even 1.05 is not finished yet, which doesn't touch them.

There must be at least 1.06 coming, otherwise every import in future Dragon Age games is bugged, as the "source problem", DAO(A), wasn't properly patched.

Oh, and don't forget the bug list on page 3!
