I am not sure if this is combat lag or not but I have tremendous slowdown during the last battles in Denerim. The one before looking for the generals. I tried all settings and it is still there. Everything is super slow and it is hard to tell whether I killed a darkspawn or not. When there are fewer enemies then the speed is fine but not when it starts. I had a gtx 260 and it did this now I have a Gigabyte 470 with a 3.33 core2duo e8500 and although better it is still a nightmare to play that battle. I tried tech support and he does not know what to suggest. It has been there since the game came out and never improved.

Is there going to be (or is there now) a fix for the graphics glitches? Currently it's unplayable, due to what appears to be some sort of issue that causes polys to flash and stretch off at odd angles all over the place. It basically looks like a carnival funhouse on an acid trip at times.

This is one example.

home.comcast.net/~valethar/images/dao/DAO001.jpg

Usually there are several all at once, at varying distances from the
'camera'. Not all are from NPCs, and almost all of them flash and/or
move around a bit.

Of all the issues with DAO/A, this is the big game breaker for me. It's just too chaotic and painful to look at.

Edit:  It almost appears as if it's got something to do with shadows, but I'm not entirely sure on that score. Looking closer at that image, it also appears as if the polys are just stretching for some odd reason.

Current hardware:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield @ 2.40GHz
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tracer 4GB
Video Card: EVGA 01G-P3-1467-AR GTX-465 SC (x2 in SLI)
Monitor: ViewSonic VX2235wm 22" Widescreen LCD
Sound Card: SB X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Motherboard: EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI

Sorry you're having this issue, and please forgive me if I say this error is near and dear to my heart... it was what got me involved with these forums in the first place.

As near as I was able to determine, this has something to do with the disparity between the clock speed on your systems CPU/RAM and that of your video card.  Here's a post I made a while ago on the subject, which includes a solution of sorts... http://social.biowar...8/index/5574840

Since this topic is about the planned patch in early April, probably best to create a new post or reply to the old one linked above if you want to troubleshoot further.  That way you and I won't clutter up the lawn.  ;)

Best,

RI

I'm not sure if anyone in the thread already mentioned this, but I'm having this issue on a plain DA:O+DA:A install. It started after the fixes for the recent unauthorised DLC problems went live.

Sorry if it's been reported to death already... Image IPB

Having the same issue here too. Got used to it already. But if it's going to be fixed after all, I'd really appreciate that, cause it's really annoying.
I also noticed that when I play for some time logged in and then quit to the main menu and go for the DLC list, I can't get access to my BioWare Points, and when I try to purchase a new DLC I get an error saying that connection to the server have failed. To fix that I need to log out and than log in again. Good thing there aren't much DLCs left for me to purchase, or else it could become a bit annoying too. All of this led me to a conclusion that the real issue wasn't fully fixed, but they instead implemented some kind of workaround to make the game work properly even when you are logged in despite if there are server issues or not. This conclusion also leads me to another conclusion that we probably shouldn't have any more unauthorised DLC issues, at least when they are already properly installed and authorised for the first time. Time will show if I figured this all out correctly or not. Not sure if they will ever fix that log in issue. It seems to be minor, and there are apparently the whole lot of other bugs to be fixed.

The bug with Jowan's final quest I hadn't seen mentioned, pardon me if it was, but details here:

http://dragonage.wik..._Intention#Bugs

Basically, if you release him from jail in the Redcliffe dungeon and tell him 'Go away, I never want to see you again'. It's supposed to trigger a follow up quest for him from the Chanter's boards but the actual location of the quest doesn't appear on the world map so the only way to complete it is to use to console to get to it.

Also, as Elath Husek wrote, the codex for Isolde and Connor is bugged and will frequently say they died when they did not. I know this is relatively minor in the grand scheme of things, but it's annoying to read that someone is supposedly dead when you clearly know they are not and went to the trouble to save them. Hopefully since it's just text it would be a relatively minor fix.

Elath Huskeh wrote...

I wanted to ask if you're going to look into codes issues for Dragon Age: Awakening. The main one is with Arlessa Isolde and Connor quest (in codex it states that both/one of them died when you tried to save them -> http://dragonage.wik.../Arlessa_Isolde )

Good work on continuing support. DA:O will, like BG, BG2, PS:T, and others, be a game that is played for years to come (though I don't think DA2 will be...) so to polish it a bit more is good.

I've been wanting to do a fresh full play through DA:O and then DA:A (only did it once, was waiting for bug fixes before I did an evil playthrough) so am gonna wait for the patch with anticipation.

Last time I did play though, the random crashing was severe caused by the patch enforced by DA:A.

Artifacts like these are almost always due to hardware damage, incompatibility, conflict, etc.  You may want to make absolutely sure that you aren't running overclocked, and that your system (video card, CPU and motherboard) aren't overheating.  That sort of problem isn't specific to Dragon Age and indicates a problem with your system, not the game - even if it only does show up in one game, different software tests your hardware differently and can expose flaws/problems.  99.5% stable still isn't 100% stable.

Wonder if it's the factory OC  on the 465's that's causing it....

May have to play with the clocks, as was mentioned in a previous post.

On the final boss of DAA and the game crashes. I reloaded and restarted the fight 6 or 7 times all with the same conclusion. I don't know if one of my characters is using an ability that causes the crash, but it seems to happen at random, and always when she is greater then 50% health. Exceptionally frustrating.

I'm in the group that suffers few and rare technical issues like crashing, and am more concerned at this stage with gameplay bugs and missing content (e.g. elven boots, blackblade goodies, etc.).

Then send your config. info to Bioware so they can easier narrow down the problems.

Luke, have you looked at the speed bonus stacking bug?

From Dragon Age Wiki page for Haste:

There is a bug in core_h.nss resulting in the loss of any attack speed bonus if the speed modifier is higher than 0.5. Activating Haste + Momentum corresponds to a speed modifier of 0.55, resulting in the loss of the speed bonus. Activating Haste + Momentum + Precise Striking results in a valid speed modifier of 0.45.

There's an unofficial fix linked on that page.

Just discovered this topic, I hope I am not too late! I would like to add four issues to the list:

DAO:
  • Loading a save game from the "Post-Coronation" epilogue area causes Shale's character model to be bugged, it looks like as a distorted steel golem. Other people have the issue as well: http:/social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/224577/1 (includes screenshot). This bug does not appear when zoning in from the Archdemon fight, only when loading a save game.
  • There are two clipping errors in the Ostagar area where you can fall off the quest area onto the scenery down below. One of those places is south of the Tower of Ishal, the south-west lookout where you can walk off the bit where the ledge has been worn away. The other place is south of the main camp area, the south-east lookout where a female priest is kneeling in prayer. The area where you can walk off is also the part of the ledge that has been worn away (http://dragonage.wik...ki/Ostagar#Bugs).
DAA:
  • Items from DAO DLC, like the Warden Commander's armor set from Warden's Keep, do not transfer from an DAO save to DAA. Other items, like Cailan's Helm from Return to Ostagar have their appearance overwritten by that of Helm of Hirol's Defense (http://social.biowar...index/3175823/1 for a more extensive description).
  • When choosing to kill the Qunari merchant "Armaas" in the Silverite Mines, he still shows up erroneously at Vigil's Keep later in the game.
And thank you for continueing to support DAO, much appreciated!

I'll add the additional bugs tomorrow when I'm in the office. As an update, I've gotten about 6 config files from users for the crash to desktop issues (thanks!) but I have yet to get any for the combat lag issue; if this is happening to you, please send me a PM, it helps a lot.

Again, I'd like to stress that while we'll be taking a look at all these issues that not all of them will be addressed. Now, I know most of these have community made mods/fixes and I think I'd like to possibly try to catalog any outstanding issues we don't fix and package all those 'unofficial fixes' together for ease of use for the community. Just a thought ^_^

What exactly is the combat lag issue? Is that when in the beginning of the combat some characters just stand doing nothing not even using their tactics until you order them directly to do something? If that is it then I seem to be sometimes affected by it in the Awakening. Rare enough though. Never noticed it in Origins campaign.

I'm also wondering what specifically "combat lag" refers to. For me, I'd like to know if this is the issue where you'll be walking along, the game pauses for 5-10 seconds, and then continues. No crash, no errors, just an odd, random pause.

I get this random pauses every time I play Origins and Awakening but never in Dragon Age 2. It is very irritating. I hope it can be fixed. I use windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

Hey All,

Combat lag is, my definition any how, when your fighting something and it just doesn't seem to be taking any damage I have had this just last night with an animated corpse fought it for a good 30 seconds+ before it actually dropped from death.

You may also get this when the game giving you prgression information, last night was the worst slowdown for me. I had this with the O.C. but this mod seems to be absolutely terrible for this.

I'm still not done and I am keeping a log for this play through so I will send it to ever needs it.

Cheers! Wil SilverHeart

Combat lag is related to the "loading times getting gradually slower" bug. Max out all settings on PC, play for 10 minutes. My Geforce 460 gets a bit loud during that, because DAO demands some graphic power and much memory.
After that, try to do the Battle at the Denerim City Gates. I kill a darkspawn with one hit, however the game "recognizes" my hit after 4-5 seconds.

The real problem is the memory handling by DAO. However, I'm no technican, so it's more like a "first guess".

I've experienced constant crashing in Denerim and parts of Orzammar. The game ran as well as it could in 1.02, but after upgrading to 1.04 there has been nothing but CTDs and graphical corruptions in and out of Denerim Market and Orzammar Commons. My hardware has not changed, and I've tried the suggestions in RI's massive self help post to no avail. This is frustrating, and I'm usually pretty good about making games and other software work well with all my systems. I do think something's rotten in the 1.04 patch. Please have another look at it. I do not think it is my hardware, and the CTDs aren't just limited to those running 7 64 bit--I'm running XP sp3 32 bit, and the game just chokes egregiously on those two maps.

The only issues I've experienced are:
*unauthorized DLC
*character/screenshots not uploading to BSN
*some DLC items not being transfered to Awakening (specially from Warden's Keep)
*In Awakening, the sword Vigilance conflicts with Warden's Keep DLC, by displaying Starfang's appearance instead of the Vigilance's actual appearance.

Thanks for the effort of creating a new patch for DAO.

P.S.: Congrats, RaenImrahl!
