Ok so sarted ME1 (Finally!), made a spacer, sole surviver soldier, got as far as finishing edan prime,, and then thought, hmmm, maybe ill be a Colonist war hero instead,(since I plan on being mostly a good guy) so i re did eden , now im conflicted between my 2 saves LOL ..... RPG games always take me a long time to get into, because im always fussing over my character ! :pinched:

so what did you make your shepard ?     and who ever has played the game multiple times, what would you say is your fave setup,
also.....do these choices really effect the game that much  ?

My main Shep is Spacer/War Hero. It doesn't have a huge effect on the game. People will occasionally make reference to your choices in both ME1 and ME2 and there is one mission in ME1 that is specific to your pre-service history. No spoilers allowed on this forum, but you can find what they are on the mass effect wikia pretty easily.

My male Shepard is Earthborn / War Hero. I think it's perfect for a Paragade. He's got an edge to his personality, but for the most part he's clawed his way out of his crappy beginnings and forged himself into a legend.

My FemShep is a Colonist / War Hero. She's almost entirely Paragon. She's known loss, and now goes out of her way to help others.

earthborn war hero
+2 to paragon points
+2 to renegade points

i found those the most interesting backgrounds(also sole survivor, but war hero gives more paragon points)

Earthborn/Ruthless

Humanity will dominate, and I'll do whatever it takes to get our species to the top.

My main FemShep (Paragon) is Colonist/Ruthless. She sacrificed her unit only to feel the emptiness that comes with revenge.

So far, I have completed a Spacer/War Hero, Spacer/Ruthless, and Colonist/Ruthless. I am working on the other combos.

Yeah I went with colonist/ruthless too, see him as similar to the operative from serenity ensuring a better future for humanity one thermal clip at a time.

I killed me a hella lot of batarians, gonna make me a banner from their flayed hides.

Its embarrassing to say since I'm a huge RPG fan, but I didn't know anything about them when I started out, so I chose the defaults, Earthborn and Sole Survivor and played as a Paragon. Worked out well for me.

I started with a Spacer/War Hero, but for all the hard luck stories around him that he is meant to understand...I couldn't see someone with such a blessed life really being able to connect with that. So now run with an Earth Born/War Hero...his done the hard yards, dragged himself out of the muck and managed to rise to the top despite his past...he just makes more sense to me this way and makes him more real to me.

Spacer/War Hero: Marty Stu (Perfect guy)
Earthborn/Ruthless: Evil Anti-Hero
EarthBorn/War Hero: Anti-Hero
Earthborn/Sole Survivor: Unlucky hero
Colonist/Sole Survivor: Badass Woobie

Others are mixed between them.

I mostly play the Spacer/War Hero ( I know he's too perfect but I love people praising me!)

For my main ME career I went Earthborn/War Hero. I like my character being strong and independent, always staying resilient in the face of adversity, and using that strength as a guardian of the galaxy.

Then I also have an "evil" Shepard (see sig). Spacer/Ruthless. Space-brat that turns into an evil little bia--.

I constructed three playthoughs to conclude the trilogy, & only three!

1. Oli Shepherd: Earthborn/Sole Survivor- Saved council/destroyed collector's baseFYI: Oli Shepherd is mostly paragon & a strong believer in saving lives (since his squad was wipe out at Akuze).:innocent:

2. Commodus Shepherd: Colonist/Ruthless- Destroyed council/destroyed collector's baseFYI: Commodus Shepherd is mostly renegade & doesn't believe in anyone, but himself. He's the guy who will make the galaxy a little bit more quieter.

3. Saul Shepherd: Earthborn/War-hero- Saved council/saved collector's base  FYI: Saul Shepherd (name inspired by the bible) is both paragon & renegade. Like Oli, he believes in saving lives, but his naive nature will be his undoing.

My main "canon" Shepard (pictured in my avatar) is a Female Vanguard, mostly Paragon with Sole Survivor/Colonist. Suits her basic concept and I always felt those two went together well, plus my favourite background quest is "I Remember Me" and I also love having the Akuze incident giving me another reason to hate Cerberus even more.

Nubia Shepard: Earthborn/War Hero

She is very human-centric and believes in bringing up and empowering the "lesser/non-counsil races" such as the Krogan, Quarians, and even Bartarians. She is a Paragon but has made tough decisions that in her opinion, will create the best path for humanity and "lesser races" such as killing off the old council.
------------------------------------------------
Xul Shepard: Spacer/Ruthless

He comes from a military background so from the get go, he is very stern and disciplined. He does not care about taking the moral highground and will make impulse decisions that will quickly eliminate a problem. Unlike Nubia, Xul isn't human-centric and is a high support of the council races such as Asari, Salarians, and Turians. He believes the lesser species should stay in their places as they offer nothing significant to the galactic community.

John Shepard: Earthborn/Sole Survivor

I enjoy the fact that he hails from the gravity of Earth because it adds an additional layer of coolness to the fact that we'll be spending some time there in ME3, although the argument could be made that Spacer and Colonist really ring true the themes of equality for all that the series sometimes give us.

Sole Survivor just sounded the best option to me because I didn't want him to be a proven military might yet. Regardless of your choice that will come through to varying extents, but at least in this case luck had a big hand in your still breathing. War Hero is blatant and Ruthless is fairly so.

My main Shepards are as follows:
Anna Shepard: (I always start with her) Spacer/Ruthless: Given everything in life until the age of 7, when everything was taken away. The L2 biotic implants she recieved almost destroyed her mind. The amateur surgeon botched the implanting and they were unable to replace them with L3 biotics. The surgeons responsible however, fearing backlash, called the replacement a success. The unceasing pain of her L2 implants twisted her young mind. She is a sociopath with one goal. Power.
Uriel Shepard: Colonist/Sole Survivor: His strict, fundamentalist upbringing still holds strong. Uriel fights as hard as he can for god's chosen race. He has seen the face of the devil in aliens and truly trusts none of them. Despite this Uriel is a nice guy. Even if aliens are inherently evil he still believes that they can feel suffering and should be helped. His loyalties will always be to humanity even if exemplary aliens, like Garrus, may gain his grudging respect
Clare Shepard: Spacer/War Hero: Raised right, did right, loves space and everything in it. Just wants to have fun. Too bad the Reapers and the Collectors and her Parents get in the way.

April Shepard: Earthborn/Ruthless Vanguard

Because Earth is our home planet, and I liked the idea of a kid that grew up on the streets finding some discipline and an escape out of that life by joining the military.

Ruthless because I figured that growing up on the streets teaches you that sometimes you just "gotta do what'cha gotta do". It doesn't necessarily means she's heartless, just realistic and practical--I actually play her as my most ideal paragon. I like to imagine that after growing up in such a crappy environment, and then thriving in the structure of the military, she's very dedicated to the ideals of the Alliance. Her achievements have allowed her to really find her moral compass and usually take the "higher road" in most delicate situations--very little things are in shades of gray for her.

Drake Shephard: Earthborn/Sole Survivor
Tanya Shephard: Spacer/War Hero

Drake is pretty much paragon while Tanya is a paragade. Both are pretty fun and interesting playthroughs.

My canon MaleShep, Ethan, is an Earthborn/War Hero Paragon Soldier-- though more Paragade in ME2. I made him when I didn't know about the bonuses to morality points brought on by the pre-service stuff, and I figured someone from Earth would just be fun to play. It would also make ME3 much more personal to him... because the Reapers ain't just attacking the human homeworld, oh, no no no...

They're making the biggest mistake they could ever make: Attacking the homeworld of Commander-Goddamned-Shepard! Paragon or not, there's gonna be hell to pay.

EDIT: Sorry about the empty post below. Went to edit this, ended up quoting it. >.>
