 Initially I had playthroughs with all psych profiles and either spacer or Terran pre-service, after a hard drive failure I went back and plowed up to 60 but only went with spacer war hero.  My friends and I like to do what we call "Audie Murpheying" it in shooters.  So, war hero seemed to fit my style of game play.

the first time I played i was a earthborn sole survivor because i didn't know i could change, this was my first rpg btw back in 08 haha. so anyway my canon is that but i am thinking about going back and being a spacer war hero because I always liked space and warhero just seems to be paragon which all my charecters are though a third of my renegade bar is also full haha

I made my character a Spacer/War Hero before I really knew anything about the game. It seems to have worked out well for him so far. He ended up getting 100% Paragon and around 25% Renegade in both games.

I think I might make a Earthborn/Ruthless or Earthborn/Sole Survivor for my more pro-humanity character.

I have always stuck with the Spacer/War Hero background however I have recently created a character that has a Earthborn/Ruthless background. Even though it goes completly against the grain for me to play a Renegade character I would like to have a Renegade Shepard ( hence the Ruthless background ) mainly because I really dig the glowing red scars on Renegade Shepard's face ( I want a Shepard that looks like my avatar ).

My Paragon FemShep is a Spacer\\Sole Survivor and I have two Renegade FemSheps, one a Colonist\\Ruthless and the other Earthborn\\Ruthless. I've been thinking about making another Paragon FemShep just so that I can finally use War Hero on something.

 I like the sound of the "I remember me" quest given for the Colonist, sounds so dramatic and emotional 
I wonder, do ppl mention your history as much if u r a sole survivor,? because so far as a war hero, ppl seem always "honored" to meet me ! LOL  gets a bit annoying

Matters little from a mechanics perspective which background you choose; a few small points of Paragon/Renegade at the start of the game isn't a huge difference. Pick whichever you think seems cooler.

I'm a bit surprised so few have chosen Sole Survivor And so many Ruthless? That background always seemed to be one of those bland "RARRR, ME SMASH EVERYWUN!" stories I think.

Went Earthborn/War Hero Vanguard for my male, main character, mostly Paragon choices and Colonist/Sole Survivor Infiltrator for my female, secondary character. Mainly Renegade choices on that one for variety. Wanted one of them badass scars on her and figured Sole Survivor fit nicely then.

Apart from both Ashley and Kaidan pointing it out, I haven't really seen more War Hero references than Sole Survivor (no idea about Ruthless, not played that). Sole Survivor certainly gets referenced here and there too.

My Canon Shepard, Jonathan,.is Sole Survivo/Earthborn. I quite like that for a mostly Renegade. Survival at all costs, but still cares for his team. Don't EF with him, don't EF with his crew.
My favorite background is Colonist though. Works incredibly well for both Paragon (Overcoming difficulties and prejudice against aliens to become the Hero the galaxy deserves) and Renegade (bitter and cynical from past tragedy, solves problems with force). I have no preference for psych profile.

My canon femShep is a colonist/sole survivor/Vanguard aka "the angst queen," and I play her as almost pure paragon. Though sole survivor does kind of get screwed over in ME2, I like the colonist/sole survivor assignments in ME1 the best.

My main Shep is Earthborn/War Hero Paragon. Got himself out of the muck and gang life of Earth to be a military and galactic hero.

Current Shep I'm playing Colonist/Ruthless Renegade. Colonist and Ruthless go well together as Colonist has your family wiped out by slavers, and Ruthless has you basically sacrifice most of your army to wipe out said slavers.

 i'll probably stick with Spacer/Sole Survivor - Nomadic life of station to station, learning the ways of intergalactic star travel until his world changed on an unforgeable mission that would make him a battle hardened Soldier, also will explain why he cares about his team, he is unwilling to let the same thing happen again..... yeh I like the sound of that

1) Mikaela Shepard is Colonist/Ruthless/Vanguard/ Renegon or Renegade
2) Diana Shepard is Spacer/War Hero/Vanguard and mostly Paragon

Renegade Vanguard Sheploo - Earthborn/Ruthless.

Paragon Infiltrator FemShep - Spacer/War Hero.

Paragade Soldier Sheploo - Colonist/Sole Survivor.

Don't think I really gave thought to them, just went for the paragon boosting choices for Infiltrator, renegade boosting choices for Vanguard, and the spares on the Soldier.

I did Colonist/War Hero for my "canon" run through. I've got a game for a lot of the other combination choices though.

Most of my Shepards ending up being almost, if not completely, Paragon Engineers no matter what I choose for their backgrounds. xD I do have a Renegade Infiltrator though, and Paragades of other classes sprinkled in.

My canonical Shepard, Charna Shepard, is an Earthborn/War Hero Paragade. She has that gritty edge from her gangland origins, but cares for the people under her command as a result of those origins. That said, she isn't afraid to shoot people if they're a liability.

Earthborn/War Hero Soldier:
Badass who grew up in the tough environments of earth, got out of the gangs and became a hero to all. Good guy but doesn't take crap from anyone.
