one of the biggest reasons that games are better on PC, in my opinion, is that they can be modded. why the consoles purposely hold their own games back in this respect has always baffled me (and the whole piracy argument carries no weight since pirates always find ways around these things so it's only the legitimate purchasers who suffer)
while I do not own or plan to buy a console, I'd definitely support our console friends having access to mods

I'm still getting the PC version regardless... because certain mods aren't guaranteed to work on a console.

I hope this happens, the rage of PC gamers will be entertaining. (No offence to PC gamers, I know the majority of you won't care or even welcome the change but a small minority will be crying about this)

I alo want this for the rage. I'm a PC gamers myself (I use consoles for casual gaming) but platform wars can be amusing sometimes. The day they revealed Mass Effect 2 on PS3 was glorious.

If they can get the unofficial patches for the consoles, then awesome.

I wonder...do they plan to have a mods menu a la Civilization 5? That could be useful.

All this hate they get from No Mutants Allowed is silly.

Bethesda is not going to do it. BioWare promised to import mods to consoles before Dragon Age: Origins was released and they didn't stick to it.

best of luck to console players, but getting past Microsoft is hard.
Sony seems to soften a bit on the issue, if portal 2 is any indication.

I don't see how extensions such as OBSE would work on consoles, even as imported.

As a game on its own? Nope

As a Fallout game. Aye, a bit.

This would be great, but is most likely not going to happen, and even if it does Microsoft/Sony would probably make you pay for it, Which makes me sad.

Well yea that's what I mean... they can call it what they want an rpg. When I hear people complain about ME2 feeling more like a shooter I think about FO1 and 2 and take a look at FO3. Makes me cry a little :crying:

Hmm, that could cause interesting copyright problems.  I can't remember the exact situation with Bethesda and modding but it's along the lines of not being able to sell derivative works, but I'm not sure that the modder's right to assert copyright over their work can be rescinded (especially for new assets created with non-Bethesda tools such as Gimp, Blender etc).  For MS or Sony to charge for them would fall foul of both of those elements; granted, Bethesda could give them permission for the former, but selling mods without their creator's explicit consent could be a legal headache at best.

Yes, but it gives me reason to think that the chances of them implementing mods in console versions of the game is very unlikely.

Yeah, every company is different so this could raise some interesting issues. For example, the EULA for the Starcraft Map Editor explicitely states (and you must agree to) the fact that any content you create using said editor is actually the property of Blizzard Entertainment. There's some legal precedent for this too. Like right now, I'm at work. Let's say that I (even in my break time) used the company's computer to create something of value like a new software program or invention. Because I was using the company's assets, anything I create (even in my off-the-clock break time) actually becomes the property of the company I work for. This is US law obviously. I would imagine the laws are very different in other countries.

I don't know much about Bethesda or how they structure their EULA. Maybe they won't be so strict with their toolset. But yeah, if they put no-profit bits in there things could certainly get interesting.

By all means put mods on consoles if its possible. So many mods I used on PC Oblivion I wanted on the console one.

Although there probably will be some restrictions on what mods make it over. Script extenders, pornographic ones, all those female eye candy body mods and such won't be allowed to be ported over.

How does ownership of mods work? Is the content owned by the modders meaning that Bethesda would need permission to use their work or pay the modders for their work to distribute it? Or does Bethesda have access to it regardless and can distribute anyone's work regardless of permission?
