Don't read my posts if you don't like them. Easy as that. And don't tell me what to do. Many thanks.

The title makes it sound like Bioware was the Exception and not just an example of this industry-wide practice.

I guess it feels more blatant when there's such a huge disparity between user reviews and professional critics reviews.

What bothers me are Users who don't even play the full game and post a review score. Thats as fishy as the "manipulated pro reviews" with cherry picked reviewers or controlled conditions.

It is, the difference they're not smart enough to make people pay them for that bull****.

And for those interested: these were all the other games they mentioned that used this strategy:
Bulletstorm, Dragon Age 2…: EA
Black Ops, The Force Unleashed 2, Blood stone…: Activision

From the OP. So yes, it's not only EA/Bioware.

Just have to say... seeing Persephone across the board has me wondering whether she's mental or not.

P.S. Not every legal system is the same.

Stop the personal attacks. It's going to get the thread locked.

Keep it to discussing the OP.

If true - is anyone really surprised? Really? And to continue on with that: Are only EA and Bioware the only ones doing this? Does this only happen in the gaming industry? Nope, it happens everywhere all the time. Every product out there that you can possibly think of that has been developed by a big shot of a company utilizes ways to tilt the reception of their product in their favour, if that goes from pressuring reviewers to stay positive to spending billions on a PR-campaign, does it matter? It's all the same thing, everything goes in the hunt to convince potential customers that their product is the best.

Jabbing at EA and Bioware for doing this when everyone else does the same (and nothing says that EA is somehow the worst, either) feels unnecesary. If you are going to boycot one single gaming company for doing X, you might as well bocot the entire industry because it's all the same.

All true.  And personally, I wouldn't even bother singling out Bioware/EA about such an industry-wide practice... if not for the fact that I've got  the DA2 DVD box right in front of me, and on the cover, in big, colorful bold lettering is:  PC GAMER editor's Choice  94%!

Ugh.

Pseudopsychology? I thought I was merely contemplating your sanity instead of giving you some full blown diagnosis. Which I am not qualified to do since neither work in the field nor have a father who does. *shrugs*

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to attack you. It's just that having read a lot of your posts I am beginning to wonder if I should continue taking you seriously or not.

Or maybe I'm having a ****y day. I'll decide later and drop this. Back to topic and all that, my profile inbox is always there.

If that's an acknowledgement that you're very narrowminded that thus every post you write boils down to the same thing than that's sad man. I mean I try to be reasonable when I post doesn't mean I don't have the need to sometimes call people out for the bull****ting. (like the gaidar and laidlaw are the absolute evil destroyers of this franchise people)

I can just lol at this law comment. It's a REVIEW. It's a commentary. There's nothing to sue about unless there's defamation.

I've been wondering if Persephone isn't in the marketing/sales field for EA.  Since I've been posting on here for the last month, she has been quite vigourously challenging every critical DAII post.  It's as if it's her full time job.

No, I just enjoy to appeal to the reasonable side of people.
And You're not making yourself any better by insulting other people even if their opinion aren't as sound as yours.

People have made viable points of how her example is flawed without resulting to insults.
Can't we aspire to do just that?

PS: very funny jab I give you that :P

It only bothers me if they played for an hour or two before making the review so all they can say is how nice the graphics looks and how awesome the areas looks (without having played enough to discover that the areas are recycled and that all stuff happens within the area of Kirkwall).

I would find it natural that a reviewer spends a lot of time on a game to make a review that is as useable for the potential players as possible. In my oppinion he doesnt need to finish the game or play through all acts. In DA2's case it becomes pretty clear what's the games most serious flaws in just 4-8 hours of play.

We will have to realize that some (perhaps most) of the reviews posted when a game is released is really just a "hidden" commercial for buying the game. In such cases, it might really just be the company speaking through the reviewer.

A lot of users have as much if not more experience than reviewers. You don't need to play a game very long to get an impression of it and since you don't want to reveal spoiler like details it would not make that much difference anyway.

That's not the users who post 0's because they feel betrayed or whatever, that's a different issue.

Can I just add one more comment to this derailed topic about someone's mental health, that it doesn't make it any more right by saying "everyone does it, so it's okay". Also it's over-generalisation, much like it is saying "DA2 is a failure, because I dislike it".

Besides I think it's kind of strange that the topic went from: "they makers of the that article are liars" to "All the publishers are liars, so who cares", that sounds like people are clutching at straws to me.

I read something very similar a few days ago on BitMob

" I need to begin this week's column with a little inside baseball. Sometimes public relations or marketing firms for video-game publishers impose embargoes on the video-game press, before which no information about a game can be published. Screenshots, movies, press releases, or reviews can all be embargoed, and it’s in the best interests of an outlet to respect the embargo and protect their relationship with the publisher.

However, sometimes outlets are given permission to ignore embargoes when it comes to publishing their reviews.

The usual narrative goes like this: A PR or marketing person representing a publisher will call up a journalism outlet and say something along the lines of “Hey, we were just checking in on how your review of 'Super AAA Title X' was going…are you liking the game?” The outlet then has two choices: They can either play ball or politely decline. If they play ball and note that they're thinking about giving the game a good score, the publisher may allow them to break embargo and publish the review early.

Why would marketing want that? Simple: They're hoping for a skewed Metacritic score before a game's release.

Ugh, I wish to apologise to the OP for the temporary derailment.

I'd like to ask a question regarding metacritic: user reviews, why are people saying they are useless? What kind of reviewers make up the other score? 'Professional' gamers?

I generally don't check out review sites and when I did it seemed really difficult to find a bad review of, well, anything really unless it was what I assume are user reviews.

Hah, I WISH. Such a high profile job is way above my capabilities however. Never mind that Bioware has no office in Austria.

Every critical DAII post? Don't give me too much credit. I've criticized the game myself. I'm simply not fond of hyperbole and I'm sorry...the thread title is so tabloid-sy, it's amusing.
