Something like that would explain Greg Tito's review on The Escapist. That perfect score is baffling. On the other hand, it makes for good advertising.

DA2 isn't that bad but it's not that good either.

It's mediocre, which for a Bioware game is bad.

And I agree: 5/5, BEST RPG IN 10 YEARS... Come on. It seems more like a parody if anything. :P

While I wouldn't call it mediocre, I do think that 5/5 and BEST RPG IN TEN YEARS is completely exaggerated and unconvincing. I'd not even call DAO or the BG series that.

I don't play a lot of games. I only buy Bioware games and games that are worth playing. I don't have very much time. These are the games I bought in recent years: All recent Bioware titles, Bioshock (2), Batman: Arkham Asylum, Crysis, Spore, TS3, Orange Box and 1701 A.D.

Apart from Spore DA2 was the worst game I bought in 3 years. So yeah. I find it mediocre, and for a Bioware title plain bad.

This is also very true. Besides, sales blocks will tell the tale. 6 months. 12 months. Then Bioware will have actual figures to work with. 5-6 weeks after release? Way too early.

Not really. The majority of a games sales take place in the first 1 à 2 months.

Oh but look, Persephone has this wide array of competences and knowledge, being the daughter of a lawyer and in the marketing/sales field. That sure makes an argument more relevant than anyone else's on the internet.

I can just lol at this law comment. It's a REVIEW. It's a commentary. There's nothing to sue about unless there's defamation.

I've been wondering if Persephone isn't in the marketing/sales field for EA.  Since I've been posting on here for the last month, she has been quite vigourously challenging every critical DAII post.  It's as if it's her full time job.

Hmmmmmmm. Awfully suspicious.Image IPB

Hah, I WISH. Such a high profile job is way above my capabilities however. Never mind that Bioware has no office in Austria.

Every critical DAII post? Don't give me too much credit. I've criticized the game myself. I'm simply not fond of hyperbole and I'm sorry...the thread title is so tabloid-sy, it's amusing.

Can you please quote a single criticism you've posted over the last month, providing a working link? Thank you.

I can understand someone defending the game, fine, but not to admit any flaw whatsoever when they are glaring is just too much.

Not that I have anything to prove but there ya go: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/6694591/6#7145845 Post was written about an hour ago. Satisfied?<_<

Thank you.

But I'm afraid not. It sounds hollow.

You are but proving my every point, can't you see? That is not a criticism to the game itself, it is merely pointing out a consequence (dropping sales),  an evidence which everyone is already well and truly aware of.

Please, tell me what you personally didn't like of DA2. And don't mention the re-used dungeons, that's a widely-accepted cliche.

You are right. You do not need to prove me anything. But if you want me and other posters to take you seriously you must provide some backup to your posts. I repeat, you do not come across as a genuine poster.

This game has objectively many issues, acknowledged by Laidlaw himself. And for the life of me, I cannot recall you writing any flaw in over a month's posting all day long. Most impressive.

Bizarre, to say the least, suspicious at most. Wouldn't you agree?

Interesting bag of games ya got there. (OMG, how I hated Spore!) My games over the last years include RPGs and Adventure Titles, mostly. Every Bioware game (Except Sonic...), The Witcher, The Longest Journey...

If I were to pick the worst of my bunch: Awakening wins hands down. Followed by "The Guild II", "Sacred II" and "Gothic IV". Favorites (recent): DAO, The Witcher, DAII, Sims Medieval, Drakensang Series:happy:

Eh?

I listed my issues with the game. If that comes across as hollow to you, there is nothing I can do. And it had nothing to do with Sales. (Not in that post, anyway)

I'll re-list them (Short version):

- Re-used enviroments
- Too few locations
- Rushed final portion of the game
- Lack of equipping companions fully
- Isometric camera gone
- Too little companion interaction with Hawke (I loved what was there, but I want to question them more to get to know them)

Those are my issues with it. I have similar issues with DAO. If it takes paragraphs of hyperbole and bashing to convince you, sorry, not going to happen.

And no, I would not agree. Many things also come across as suspicious to me. You wouldn't agree with me either. So lets just agree to disagree.

Spore, that was hell. I mean come on. I was so hyped about that game. It was just so meh. The editors were fun though. One of my creations was even featured on the Spore homepage pretty early on! :P

I didn't find Awakenings that bad. I usually don't excpect to much of expansion packs ;)

My recent favorites: Mass Effect, Bioshock.

I still think this should be investigated,  I'm amazed there's been no class action yet.

A class action suit? What kind of damage have you suffered because of this?

Three reasons why a tort law case would probably never work, off the top of my head:
1. Reviews are subjective, and can even be used as advertising. A consumer must always bear this in mind.
2. As a player, what damage have you suffered? You paid for a game and got it. It didn't live up to your expectations, but that doesn't mean the price you paid would actually be considered as some form of "damage" to you.
3. Burden of proof is on you. Was this marketing tactic (deceptive or not) the main reason why you bought the game?

It's reprehensible but it's not really damaging except to the integrity of the involved parties. Games are relatively easy to return/sell on and most people take that route.

EEEK, Spore was certainly underwhelming. And congrats on getting your creation featured, that's awesome!

Oh, I absolutely adore the ME series. Totally forgot to mention it. (I really AM getting old) Now that series deserves all the review hype it is getting. (Trying to be a little on topic ;) ) I haven't played Bioshock yet. Might have to get my greedy claws on it. (While I am still on holiday, that is. No more gaming in a few days. Bloody office!)

Awesome selection! How do you rate Arkham? I thought it looked naff but was badgered into trying and what a surprise it turned to be one of my favourite games.

I can say this; I've glanced at a few french speaking only gaming site and their reviews on DA:2 are pretty low (one is 5/10, the other 3.3/5 and another 5/10)

I could probably translate some of them if a few people are interested.

Bioshock is well worth it if you can handle FPS games (I get motion sickness with FPS, but still got through it and Bioshock 2). :)

You could always let the drones do the fighting for you. Works very well , just stun them , then hack them and you have your own private army.

As long as you are not after the "Big Brass Balls" trophy it's quite forgiving about death, you just pop back up in a nearby location.

You've got a bad memory then. I've seen her post on most ot the things on her list. The difference is how much they bother her. For some people reused maps are like nails on a chalkboard. For others they're more distracted by what they're doing on the maps and it doesn't bother them so much.

Anyway, back on topic, the OP's quote sounds to me more like someone trying to make being a small low priority Belgian publisher sound like making a stand for honesty. They sound a little bitter. Just my opinion.

But for those of you who truly believe its a big conspiracy and think the larger publications are forced to only write nice things about a product to get the exclusives...well I suggest you go out and pick up the latest PC Gamer. I too suck at FPS, but the immersion and atmosphere of that game.... Damn.

Anyway back on topic: BOO FOR BIASED REVIEWS! Shame on you EA/Bioware. If you make a good enough game then you don't have to resort to measures like this.

PC Gamer gave DA2 94pct at release, so yeah. That's not exactly critical journalism. And then a month after release there is a Anti DA2 Column.
Guess which will affect sales the most. Guess which one publishers care most about.

I find it difficult to scrounge together sympathy for people ignorant enough to complain that an arbitrary number from a preliminary review did not automatically translate into an enjoyable experience.

Think for yourself next time and we won't have this problem.

And do yourselves a favor and don't buy any games anymore.  That way you won't fall for anything any reviewer is trying to trick you on, nor will you ever be disappointed.

And don't read anyone's opinions anymore either.  That way you won't get sidetracked from the main topic just to let people know how worthless you think their opinions are.
