Orlais to me means more chantry storylines.
screeching accents and the possible destruction of Ferelden.
Also am i the only one who thought the antivan accents in DA2 sound forced and fake?

I was hoping for Antiva or Tevinter.

I don't mind the accent, and the mage vs. templar story just started... I'm not sick of it just yet. So no, setting the game in Orlais would not prevent me from buying the game. Other factors might, but not this.

Also... no opinion on the Antivan accent, except that Vincento's voice was fantastic.

I'm more worried about game play and other technical issues. For all of DA2's faults the overall writing and story were fine until they rushed the ending. I'm not worried about accents and I look forward to resolving the events we had no control over with a protagonist who may have a bit more say.

Of course, assuming they change stuff from DA2, I am not North American so I can not/will not understand all the french hate around here :-/

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me personally, it's not the French I hate, it's the atrocious "French" accent that most VA's use for Orlesian characters in the game.  Leliana's accent was okay, but just about everybody else.../vomit.

That said, yes I would play the game if it's in Orlais, but I am hoping to be able to explore other areas as well.  Hoping that they will go the polar opposite for DA3, in that instead of limiting us to one city and surrounding suburbs, we might be able to go to several countries in DA3!

I'd never play the game in orlias.

If the game perhaps took place in ORLAIS, then I'd consider it.

So I take it you had nothing interesting to say?

I think the story could be pretty interesting. Maybe if we can play a deciding factor in the tensions and possible Orlesian-Ferelden conflict.

My main concern is the voice acting. Who knows how many French-English voice actors are out there, and how many of them are pretty good. I guess they could always get some of the Heavy Rain cast.

I think Orlais would be interesting because of all the intrigue. Think how much fun it would be to blow up the Orlesian Chantry, Gamer!

Aside from that, I want to be able to play as a (non-mutant) elf, and I want some mages that don't fulfill the anti-mage stereotype that we're all possessed by demons.

As far as accents, first, don't assume that all N. Americans hate accents or people from other countries (they speak French in Canada and Louisiana btw), and second, what sort of accents do the non-English versions have? I asked a Spanish friend if Zevran sounds ultra-Spanish somehow, but he played the game in English and had no comment on the accents.

On the plus side, shoes.
On the minus side, DA2.

Taking a "wait and see" approach.

I'm more concerned about whether it's going to be less rushed and better than DA2 than where it will take place.

The fake french accents remind me of Allo Allo from the BBC. It horrible. I don't mind all the comedy northerners though!

Leliana in french has no accent. It's unfortunate, because French voiceover could've used quebec french for Orlesians, which differentiates quite a bit from European French. The only bad thing though, is that Quebec french doesn't naturally sound as sophisticated as European French.

At this point, I need confirmation that role-playing aspects of DA3 will improve before I buy it no matter where it's set. If it's another game where quest dialogue takes the place of interaction with the companions, I probably won't bother.

Hearing every female sound like Isolde would not make my purchase more likely, no. But if every male sounded like Riordan...

Hahaha, like in DA2?  There were at least three NPCs voiced by Riordan, and he sounded just as sexy in each!

Honestly, though, if they actually increase the companion interaction and take a bit more time with it, it won't matter to me where it take place.  I liked DA2's story (aside from act 3 ending rush job), but there was so much filler, and not enough actual getting-to-know my companions.

That's too bad about the French. Maybe Orlesians should have had a Parisian accent and other characters could have accents from Brittany or Provence or Cote d'Ivoire, for instance.

Did the other characters have discernable accents? I'm very curious about how the game accents affect our assumptions about where the characters are from. To me, Leliana sometimes sounded Australian (the way she says "no"). Zevran sounds Spanish, but I've read that Antiva is supposed to resemble Venice when it was a city-state. I don't recall Danarus in DA2 sounding any particular way, though Tevinter is supposed to be like the Roman Empire.

I think it would be really interesting if DA 3 takes place in Orlais, because of the whole templar-mage situation. Considering that the Divine lives in Val Royeaux, the capital would be of particular importance.

I don't mind the accents, but what is bothering me is the inconsistency. I play Dragon Age in a dubbed version and while there were no accents at all in Origins, they changed that in DA 2. Some of the characters have accents now, others don't. Zevran suddenly got an accent. Leliana on the other hand has none. De Launcets have got accents, too, I think. Sigh. I mean, if you start with no accents why can't you stick with it?

But accents or not, I think Orlais would be a great place to discover.

Oh I love shoes!
LoL As long as the majesty of the Grand Cathedral is somewhere in there... I wouldn't mind.

But why does DA3 HAVE to take place in ONLY Orlais?? Why can't it start somewhere and we can travel all over TheDAS.
Considering I'm expecting a giant clusterf**k of MageVSTemplar, QunariVSEveryone, Tevinter being b**ches (they ALWAYS ARE!), and the DOUBLE BLIGHT of Razikale (Mystery) and Lusacan (Night)... AND the fact that now many Darkspawn are sentient...
(before you say anything, even if you killed the Architect, Seranni will continue his doings with the Acolytes he had left... Though DA2 confirmed what I had said all along: Why kill the guy who will make the world a better place just based upon his race!? Turns out he does.)
I would both like and suspect that DA3 will be a worldwide war. Meaning that we'll get to go to lots of places and not just Orlais nor just Tevinter.

I'd go to Orlais just for the food, regardless of the accents. Actually, since I find guys with French accents hot, that's another good reason to go. And the clothes too probably.
