So, what are people's opinions of the new 'Heavy Melee' class for ME3?

I think it could be really good IF melee is very much improved and by the sounds of it, it is.

What do others think?

I don't think it is a class, I think something was lost in translation. I suspect it is the same thing as we heard in GI, that there is a bigger emphasis on melee. I don't want melee to be more effective than it already is, heck I kind of want it to be worse damage wise, Improve how it looks fine, give cool moves fine, have some silent kill elements also fine. But when you have super sci-fi guns you should not be punching people. We don;t do it now with inferior weapons, why would we use it in the future.

Does anyone know where the Spanish magazine got their information? Is it a translation of what was in GameInformer, or did they actually interview a developer/lead? Because the Spanish posting definitely says that a new Heavy Melee class will be able to take full advantage of the new melee/combat movement features mentioned. Maybe BioWare is going to add class specializations a la Dragon Age.

EDIT: Well, per their description here, it reads that they did a hands on in Canada, so it is possible that they simply misinterpreted the demo class as being a new class instead of a specialization.

Well, the article was supposedly very similar to the GI's one, but there were a couple of new things mentioned, like that new power for a certain class, some new confirmed locations and maybe one or two new screenshots.

I like the idea of expanded Melee combat, but having a Tenth class specifically called "heavy melee" not only throws the origional classes out of whack but sounds redundent to the Vanguard class, which I thought was designed for close combat as by the class discription (melee sure sounds close to me).

Sooo...I hope this was a translation error, or perhaps it was a bit out of context or the interviewing people just generilized the new melee features that each class is supposedly getting, or is a specilization path avaliable to each class.

Melee is good, but imo a seperate Melee class all by itself is redundent.

It could be a class evolution however. That through the multiple evolutions as we are told there will be of the class specific power one could set-up a pretty melee hefty build. Probably limited to fighting classes, aka Soldier, Vanguard and Infiltrator.

If it means that, as an adept, I can finally have a no gun kit--sword or melee weapon only-- then I'm all for it.

However, I think it's just a translation thing and that the only new melee system will be what the ai/npc's do while shep wishes he/she had better elbow protection and spring loaded bayonet on the rifle butt.

I am still in process of comprehending the Vanguard+Bayonet awesomeness, therefore I should note that any remark of mine on said topic is due to mentally infantile comprehension and mainly consists of:
Biotic Charge+Claymore+Bayonet=BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !

I want a robe. And some type of laser-sword. And some biotic abilities that make me move faster, jump really high, and shoot eezo from my fingertips. Oh, and I want a tiny green gnome that talks funny to mentor me. :P

I think combat will be more like Uncharted 2's, instead of simply melee elbow of death.

There is a picture of one, not sure if that counts as confirmed.  It might be in, might be enemy only, might get cut who knows.

ive used melee exactly 20 times in ME2.

do i care about melee in ME3? not one bit.

melee is already OP as it is. it does more damage then my pistol for cripes sakes.

I don't think a Vanguard should have a bayonet, they should just use their biotically enhanced fists like Jack in the cutscenes. It's more soldiers or infiltrators that need a knife or something. Of course a bayonet could be a weapon mod that changes the attack and increases melee damage.

YIKES!!....I truly hope not....One of the things I love about ME is the low occurence of being swarmed and having to melee (the husks...bane of my ME existance :()....I'm hopeless at emphasise on melee games, thus one reason why I play so few games. I like ME as it is, if a player prefers close range combat, they have got it, if a player, like myself, prefers long range combat, they have got it.

Well if it's anything like CoD, you can just wave a knife in the general direction of your enemy and they die.

They should add a "Commando" ability so you magically teleport through half the map and stab someone :)

(yes, I played MW2 and Black Ops waaaay too much)
