You know that DA2 must suck when its already been reduced to £9.99 less than 2 months since its launch date:

www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/18172105/Dragon-Age-2/Product.html

Serious lol at all the people that bought this game for full price on launch, and how much they tried to justify their purchase and claim that this POS game was worth $60.

I bought the game at full price on launch day and havent shut up about being scammed since.

I have trouble trusting this, as I have not seen the price go down on Amazon.com, and I just did some searches on Google's shopping tool, which shows comparison prices. There's no major decrease in price for major retailers--WalMart, Best Buy, Target, Amazon, etc. Granted, this is in the US, but I have not seen any indicators that there's any quick discounting going on.

I have trouble with "sales are dropping" threads because the arguments are usually made by people who dislike the game and are looking for Schadenfreude, taking pleasure at other's misfortune, or are otherwise trying to say that the game they didn't like is a failure. Until I see a much more objective analysis (usually made by people who don't care either way of success of failure) I'll have to dismiss this as premature declarations.

this argument may help you to rethink your point of view

I am one of those beginning to wonder if the push to lower prices is the motivation behind much of the 'waves of negativity' seen in the forums. Personally, I am more for civil discourse and witty banter over name calling, egg tosses, and the like.

It seems like a civil discussion isn't going to happen. I wonder how many complainers are pc players.

Why does a persons chosen platform for gaming matter?

That seems to just be a UK phenomenon.

http://www.google.co...541402962616383

Based on this I see prices more or less the same as they were when this was released.

So the US, which is the biggest audience for this game, has not engaged in deep discounting from what I can see.

Oh, and as far as CamelCamelCamel goes.

http://camelcamelcam...duct/B0047TLIBU

Simply put, it probably bombed out in England, but is doing fine in the US.

Fits with the new DA2 sales numbers.
The shops are likely sitting on a huge pile of copies which didn't sell and are now trying to clean out.

What do you mean by "doing fine"
Sales in USA dropped almost in half compared to last week, and in EU didnt.
Maybe its time to drop the price in USA too huh ?

The total amount of units sold doesn't mean it's a failure. If it wasn't selling well enough, you'd see the prices dropping. Sales charts weren't even brought up in this thread, just "proof" that a price drop in the UK = Game as a failure.

I think we'd need to see more objective analysis. I have trouble with these threads because they are usually started by people with an axe to grind or a love to defend. I see this all the time on ENWorld, where people argue that 4e D&D is a success or failure, and it's hard to prove not just because it's hard to get figures, but because there are people who argue that sales are low that also put their own preferences and prejudices into the analysis.

I'd need to see an analysis by people who aren't emotionally invested in the success or failure of the game, the company, etc.

In Australia the game is still full price, but then again any game is expensive in Australia.

Not everywhere.  $29.99 at Dungeon Crawl.

That's too bad.  If it got down under $20 I was thinking about giving it a try.  Probably be next year now though as W2 should hold me over till Skyrim comes out, then forget about playing anything else for 8-12 months. :P

No it's not! Let's cut the crap, okay? Please? They're job isn't to advise people at all. Their job is to sell games. Yes they can advise people and they often do, but if it's a game that's just on the fence or has a mixed reception, they're gonna try to sell that game if asked. Yeah, I know, it's ugly, it's dirty, it means pushing bad games on good people, but that's what they're paid for. They're not consultants, they're salesmen. I've worked in sales, I know what the mandate is: sell, sell, and for God's sake, sell. And of course they can do this without endorsing every title - bounds of reason.

*pant*

Moving on. Even if they were consultants, saying that DA II isn't worth a purchase isn't honest. Saying, "Well it's gotten mixed reviews" and "It's different from DA:O, but it's gotten on average decent scores" "It's not for me," etc, that's honest. Saying "It sucks don't buy it!" isn't honest.

Not that it matters, because honesty isn't in the job description.

I've skipped multiple pages, but I felt the need to reply to this as soon as I saw it.  The official title of a Gamestop employee is "Game Advisor."  So a major portion of their job IS to advise people.  If they believe that the game is not good, and if that's the general concensus (which it seems to be) then it seems perfectly legitimate to tell people that it's not worth the purchase.  However, it would probably be more reasonable for them to tell people to wait for an inevitable  price drop.

Heh still $59.99 (for French version) in Canada because as someone noted earlier - everyone gets ****ed in the ass here when it comes to prices.

Correction:

Can't even find DA2 PC there. Just signature edition for 100 bucks lol.

Leaving all this for context.....

If an employee gives an opinion on a product, I am often delighted. But if said opinion is not informed, or is offering one based on a perceived consensus, they had best have some evidence to support their input or I tend to chalk it all to sour grapes. In video stores, I ask for their recommendations.

If said choices are unappealing for me, then I tend to add a lot of seasoning to their previous opinion, as our tastes seem to be varied. In a gaming store, I would approach a product in a sim way. Gimmee a clerk that likes RPG's over FPS, etc; or at least explains that their appears to be some negative feeback, then site sources to allow me to check on my own.
