This game is not as well rated as the previous game, I think we can all conclude that. Am I the only one afraid that the nostalgia backlash this game received will make BioWare games become less actiony in the future? I immensely enjoyed DA2 and I'd go as far as to classify it as one of my top 5 games (Origins didn't make it, a bit too boring and slow). I really enjoy how actiony yet tactical the combat was, how deep the characters were (being able to talk to your family really made those characters awesome)

I am afraid the reviews will make DA3 have combat like DA:O which I found boring and unreallistically slow, and return to unvoiced and list dialogue, instead of wheeled and voiced. Anyone else feels like this?

EDITED to remove spoilers.

How? The story was just so poor.

I don't want BW to go back to origins (And believe me, they won't, Laidlaw despises it), but they need to add SOO much more depth to their next dragon age game. The game was just so damn shallow.

Well, stories are subjective. DAII's story grabbed me much more than anything in DAO ever did.

But I guess...saying so in these hostile waters isn't the best idea.

DA 2 needed more development time. It's clear that the story itself would've been good if it was fleshed out more. More tangible choices, less room for plot holes (hi Leliana zombie woman), etc etc.

The setup was very good. The execution on the other hand, was awful.

Alas, that is the story for the whole of Dragon Age 2 for me.

I'd give them my firstborn if they'd go back to the Origins style. They'd have to wait for a bit since I don't have one, but I disliked the combat, design, conversation system, etc., etc., just that much.

All they had to do is speed up the Origins combat a little and keep some kind of closing technique to stop the side stepping. Bring back the deathblows and get rid of the ridiculous exploding bodies, cartwheeling, and enemies falling out the sky or through the ceiling.

Bring back unique areas and an expansive area to explore.

But yeah, bring back the aspects of Origins.

Unique and expansive. That reminds me of Kirkwall. And no area in Origins was unique and expensive, at least not in the mind blowing way Kirkwall was.

So, how much are they paying you at bioware?

Nope, not afraid, counting on it!
If they take the good elements from DA:O and the good elements from DA:2 and LEARN then DA:3 will be epic.

After saying that you lost all credibility. Sorry.

Or perhaps you and  have a different opinion and still should be civil to each other. CAn't you accept that?

Nope. It's ALMOST an objective observation to say that origins had more unique & expansive areas versus DA2. Orzammar, temple with andraste's ashes, denerim easily come to mind while kirkwall is just i don't know.... even the town sections of kirkwall sound very uninspired & afterthought-y i.e. "high"town, "low"town , and "dark"town.

High-town...low-town...dark-town...what's next? Green-town...upper-town...light-town...deep-town...super-town?

Funky town!:D

UGH! The car on rails that is Hawke. Bioware's doll with it's pull cord for ****** Jack convos (but with a surprise in every comment).  And as for a story, yeah I am a a person trying to make it up in the world where things happen to me and around me that I have no control over.  Somehow playing that in a game isn't so thrilling.  Apparently I am missing the meta story. Could the game have been intriguing and a form of escapism...sure if they stopped breaking immersion every 30 ****ing seconds (with the reused dungeons, the blackouts where Hawke goes in a coma for a few years and while out of it, nothing--not companions or the city changes, and the flimsy excuse why I can be a mage apostate off the boat and use magic in the Gallows and not get busted.) just to name a few.  Filling in plot holes and polishing it up ( I don't blame the writers, this whole thing feels rushed).

Despite someone eles's conjecture that Mr. Laidlaw despises DAO (which I wondered myself) well DAO still is a far better game than DA2 will ever hope to be in all its dreams of grandeur. Stripping all that made DAO a great selling game (and it is still selling) and replacing it has done DA2 a disservice. Instead, maybe they should fix what didn't work as well as it should in DAO and maybe do the same for DA2 put those elements that worked together and stop trying to reinvent the wheel before it rolls over them while they try and serve so many masters and please almost none.

I am too tired at this point to be nice, so I am going to take myself away and be a good girl.

I'd cheer if they'd even reach Awakening's level of quality and depth of roleplaying in DA3. Let alone Origins'.

Oh God I'm so afraid Bioware will grow a brain and decide to make DA3 not completely suck!

Please Maker, have Bioware do another ****ty rushed DLC of a game with reused area, ugly graphics and streamlined RPG elements and make us pay full price for it!!

PLEAAAAASE!!!

I wish they would go back to more of a Origins style so that the people who came in and started saying the Dragon Age 2 was an overall improvement would lose interest and play something else.

I kind of don't understand how people can state that they really didn't like Origins, yet they decided to play Dragon Age 2. Why?
I sometimes get the sinking feeling that the people who like Dragon Age 2, never even played Dragon Age Origins, and so to make themselves feel like they're not complete newbs, they talk a lot of nonsense about Origins being inferior to the sequel. That's just what it feels like to me.

I remember playing Fable 2 without having played Fable, and I really like Fable 2. I probably won't get around to playing Fable. I just don't have the desire to, but if the debate becomes about which game was better, I'd have no opinion. I couldn't say.
Now get me in a debate about whether Fable 3 is better than Fable 2, we're in business. I know my answer in a heartbeat.
Anyhow, Dragon Age 2 was so small compared to Origins. The story was small, the environment was small, and so were the choices and customization options.
I kept waiting for a big reveal that somehow what had occurred in Kirkwall was part of a big plot cooked up by Tevinter. That or it was all a strategy from the Qunari to destabilize Thedas in order for them to invade a land in chaos.
Nothing like that happened of course. I'm really still at a loss as to what the point was in this game. I mean, political and martial turmoil boiling over between the Circles and the Chantry? Not like that really needs a 10 year story to set up.
I mean, what made the writiers think we didn't want to continue the story of the Wardens, the Architect, Flemeth, Morrigan AND the Qunari AND the Circle vs Chantry plots.

I feel like Dragon Age 2 has been a big side plot rather than the actual continuation of the main narrative of the series.

I hope for a 70%-DA:O and 30%-DA2.

All in all DA2 was a disappointment to me, but it had some good stuff that can go into DA3.

Definitely the combat should be something in between, a bit slowed down and not so cartoony-like in DA2... but to be honest DA:O's combat was a bit too slow and non-responsive at times.

Sure do hope they'll go back to Origins. DA2 was a trainwreck crossed with the Hindenburg.

If all people who are whining about Origins are concerned about is the combat, then keep it as it was in DA2. Couldn't care less (I appreciated the faster combat, but rolled my eyes at the endless waves and improbable spawnings points).

Everything else, areas, expanded dialogue, unvoiced protag, dialogue wheel, paraphrases, epilogue slides, item descriptions, being able to chat to your companions whenever, vaster array of choices and endings, I hope they go back to Origins for all of that.

I think that DA3 needs to be created on the grounds of DA:O - with polished visuals and a more direct, yet still realistic combat where needed (2-handed weapons come to mind) - although I am perfectly fine with the combat of Origins. The arcade/cartoon elements, both in the visual style and the combat of DA2, were just awful.

Dragon Age 2 would still be selling good if it just took everything from origins and improved on it. Look at Dead Space 2. It took everything from Dead Space 1 and improved on it for the single player game and is still selling good(despite the stupid multiplayer). It even got the same metacritic score.

Dragon Age 3 won't happen now because of the failure of DA2, but at least Bioware can go back to DA1 and release DLC or expansion packs. That of course won't happen either even though its the best decision they can make.

Based on what evidence?

Far as I know, they are already working on it and the franchise is FAR from abandoned. And I'm glad of it.

And I sometimes get the feeling that the people who dislike DAII in favor of Origins never even played DAII. (And I'd be right in some cases, as they have admitted to it....) See what I did there?

Never mind those who like it being attacked, belittled, scorned and mocked at pretty much every turn.

I've played DAO many, MANY times, know it pretty much inside out, I've done Mod Tutorials on it (Not on Modding but which Mods to use, how to combine them etc.) , I'm writing DAO fan fiction and reading DAO fan fiction.... I still love DAII and think it beats its predecessor in several ways and vice versa. I don't see why it MUST be one OR the other.

But I also don't see how Awakening can be called superior to anything.

If DA3 is gonna be even more like DA2 than I'm gonna save myself the 60$ bucks easy as that.
If it's still successful in that format than good for it, there are many games that easily fill ne origins void.

There are? Care to share those? (Seriously, I'm interested, as I love that way of storytelling)

I'm pretty sure they will stick with the current format, but I'm also pretty sure that they will look at the stuff that got slammed pretty closely.
