A mostly cinematic QTE one-on-one fight would've indeed be the best for that battle, although that would mean they'd have to implement an entire QTE/interrupt-system for just one battle...FedericoV wrote...
Duels should play to different rules, even something more arcadish and/or based on cinematic QTE would be better. The duel with the Arishock and Loghain were not that good and nearly comical being played by normal game rules.

DA:O and DA2 are built around party based combat. They are different systems and I prefer DA2 but they are both very good in their own field.
Devs could have choose to be consistent and allow only party based fights in the game (being boss or boss+mobs fights). But If they decide to add duels because "duels are cool" and because "a duel is better for the story" (at least on the paper), well, it would be better if they put a little effort on it becuase the normal gameplay system was not developed to do well in duels.
The duel with the Arishock was an epic fail, especially if you approach it with "destiny trailer" in mind. It completely ruins all the build up during the second act. I played a mage and it was really comical... it only missed "yaketi sax" as soundtrack
